Racial issues
I did not appreciate the way the black people in the story were referred to as " negros . It also says that she was taught that black people could or would never be as smart as white people. Last but not least, it says, Jessie was disappointed when she saw that the black women were not dark skin with curly hair. The racial stereotypes are not acceptable or appropriate. They also were not appreciated - at all.

Loved this book!
I first read this book when I was in about 5-6 grade. I am now in my 30’s and after all these years my mind wonders back to this book.
I enjoyed it just as much as my 11 year old self did!!!Great for all types of ages! I even bought this book for my daughter when she we old enough to read chapter books!
