Very poor execution

I'll start off by saying I didnt finish this book. The premise of the book is actually pretty interesting. However the characters are...odd. Flat and two dimensional I don't think applies here. The MC is a hypocrite, raging at causal animal abuse while he himself casually strikes a woman. Not for me.

The other thing is the audio is pretty horrible. Jacob West sounds like he's phoning in his performance. Lots of slurred and mispronounced words. On the other hand, Portia Winters uses the same voice for every single woman and her voice sounds like she's recording with the book in front of her mic.

What a shame.

Good Performance Story isnt for me, but other will

I'll start with the performance. It was pretty good. Jacob did a really good job. He has a wide variety of voices he uses for different male characters. He is easy to listen to.
Portia did okay. She needs some more practice speaking more fluidly. Sometimes when she reads it comes off as stilted. She doesn't vary her characters voices much. All that being said I have defiantly heard a lot worse. And I think with a few more books under her belt she will get better.
The premise for the story is great. The world building is great, I enjoyed the characters and the worlds. There is a ton of potential here. On the negative side there are a lot of minor errors in it. A couple of beta listeners would have caught them. Like the MC call his female servant a "he". It happens often...
This next part is personal preference. I didn't care for was the settings of the adult situations. I do however enjoy adult situations in books. But in this particular book it's just not for me. Nothing wrong with it, some will love it. Just not my cup of tea. It was done well though, I think? Think 50 Shades...

A Great Adventure

A Very interesting story, excellent world building with great mechanics. The MC l liked from the beginning of the story but as the story progressed a bit more of his characters came out and developed He became a little less likable. I understand the this is a tough world and only the strong survive but he seems like a bit of a jerk at times. This might be more realistic and it didn’t turn me off but it was different. I still want the next book because I’ve become invested in this world and want it to grow.
The narration was excellent and was very enjoyable!

if i could get my credit back, i would.

I didnt like it. the dialogue from the female characters was like listening to an alexa or a siri robotic voice. the main character seems kinda arrogant.

perfect ratios

In this genre, each reader and author has a certain ratio they desire for sauce to story, I feel like this one fit my ideal levels. there's tons of world building, character backstory and building. progression through the book flows smoothly and was an absolute page turner. I would definitely recommend this to others.

great story

fantastic story but confusing dialogue sometimes. there seems to be many occasions where him and her are used wrong. like in the shower when she is responding to him but the dialogue says he instead of her. many occasions of this. it gets kind of confusing. " as he went from servant to guard". how does a female warrior go from she to he? I feel like this happens so much that the writer was thinking about a man when writing about a woman. a good example is chapter 13 , 2:38. chapter 14, 17:57. more where it's supposed to be she.

Almost returned the book but I struggled through

The story was interesting but the narration had a real impact on how the story flowed. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what was going on, the characters seemed to change topic on and off in the conversation. I believe that a lot of this is due to the narrator’s cadence, it reminds me of William Shatner. The female voice over sounds like it is dubbed in after the fact, the difference in audio quality is jarring.
The narration put me off to the point where I can’t leave an objective review of the book itself. The overall concept was interesting but by the 75% mark I just wanted the cliff notes for the last 25%.

Excellent

Deep world building with a much more realistic characterization of the MC than most authors. Many seem to go for the, fix everything and boose, girls and roses all round. Yes he has some darker qualities but don't we all whether we admit it or not. All in all a really good book well done.

A good book

This has turned into one of my favorite books. It kind a grew on me, the narration is amazing. It amazes me how the narrators can bring the story to life and to make individual characters. They mysteriously become a real person as you continue to listen to the story.
Well done!

Dull and slow

Dull and slow I have been waiting for the story to get going but even the battle is slow.
