Det er virkelig vanskeligt at artsbestemme Fredrik Sjöberg - det ved læseren af Fluefælden og Kunsten af flygte allerede. Vi får ikke svaret med sidste bind i trilogien - Rosinkongen - men det er da også netop det, som gør Fredrik Sjöberg til et unikt bekendtskab; hverken han eller hans bøger kan kategoriseres. Til gengæld skriver han suverænt og formår både at trække de store linjer med den brede pensel og at beskrive de små detaljer som den fluesamler han jo er.
En ting får man dog svar på i Rosinkongen - nemlig hvad der skete med Sjöbergs fluesamling Rosinkongens hovedpersonen og helt i er Gustaf Eisen; videnskabsmand, regnormeforsker og eventyrer. Denne mand, som i barndommen var så skrøbelig at det ansås som uvist hvorvidt han ville overleve, kom nemlig til at leve et liv som savner modstykke i Sverige såvel som i Danmark. Han slog igennem som regnormeforsker og blev dermed forgænger for Darwin, som han i øvrigt korresponderede med, og han fik også tid til at indvie sin gamle ven August Strindberg i oliemaleriets mysterier.
I 1870'erne rejste Eisen til Californien - ikke bare for at samle regnorme, han begyndte også at dyrke vin og skrev et epokegørende værk om rosinindustrien! Men naturligvis er den egentlige helt i Rosinkongen forfatteren selv, mens Eisen mere fungerer som rejsekammerat gennem den eventyrlige og utrolige beretning. Rosinkongen fuldender trilogien og understreger at Sjöberg mestrer den svære kunst ikke at sige for meget. Det er originalt og fortryllende, alvorligt og vanvittig morsomt. Efter endt læsning er der kun én ting at gøre; at starte forfra! Fredrik Sjöberg (f. 1958) er uddannet biolog. Han er en kendt flueforsker og kulturskribent. Rosinkongen fuldender trilogien som blev indledt med Fluefælden og fuldt op med Kunsten at flygte.
