Publisher's Summary

Nothing ruins a peaceful morning walk like finding a blood-spattered body. And Daisy Greene and Rose Forrest, sisters and co-owners of Champagne Taste, really need a peaceful morning walk. They have enough on their minds already. Christmas is right around the corner, business is brisk, and their little antiques district of Old Towne is being plagued with petty thievery and vandalism. Murder is just not in the game plan.

If finding bodies lying around walking trails isn't enough to destroy a perfectly good day, Daisy's ex-husband, state trooper Bill Greene, shows up to investigate the murder. Nosy by nature anyway, Daisy takes Bill's presence as a challenge to find the murderer.

When Daisy and Rose start asking questions, things get hairier. Someone begins stalking them. Daisy receives threatening letters and is brutally attacked. Their determination grows when clues lead to a missing priceless diamond and the man Daisy is dating becomes the next victim.

With the help of their eccentric mother, Angela, and their hormonally exuberant dog, Malcolm, they follow the clues to catch a killer.

Good story

small-business, small-town, family-dynamics, friendship, murder-investigation, cozy-mystery, Maryland, verbal-humor, situational-humor

The book is a fine cozy about friends who run shops and have interesting friends and relatives. Of course there's a murder! Their sleuthing is complicated by a goofy mother of one of them, a detective who is an ex-husband, an amorous new dog ,a spate of petty thefts, and a fabulous stolen diamond. The book is a riot!
The narrator has a very interesting style.
I won the audio in a giveaway.

Great Mystery

Roses and Daisies and Death Oh My! was a fabulous mystery that was hard to stop listening to. I listened in two straight sittings it was so good. The characters were realistic but not always likable. It was longer for a "cozy mystery" and had a lot of aspects that make it a cozy mystery. However, I would not classify this as super cozy. I found it to be more of a clean mystery but not overly cutesy. I did figure out the mystery but not until closer to the end of the story.

Kim Rossi has very distinct voices for each of the characters. I knew exactly who was talking strictly on her voices. However, I did find a few voices hard to listen to. I think this was by design but did make some parts a little more unpleasant to the ear.

I did receive a copy of this audiobook at my request, and I have voluntarily left this review.

This book had me in stitches............

Roses and Daisies and Death, Oh My is an incredibly entertaining and funny start to a new cozy mystery series. The book features two sisters, Rose and Daisy, who own and operate a novelty store together. Due to a series of robberies in their small business district, the women's mom, Angela, gets them Malcolm, a guard dog in the form of a tiny dog whose attack mode is humping. While Daisy is walking Malcolm, they discover the dead body of a local homeless man. Thus begins not only a classic whodunnit mystery but also an incredibly funny and charming series of events as Daisy and Rose try to solve the mystery behind the break-ins and the murder. I truly laughed so hard at some of the women's antics that my face hurt. The relationship between Rose, Daisy and Angela is the best part of the entire story, but I also really enjoyed the mystery portion as well. The author did a great job of stumping me when it came to the guilty party, and I was completely surprised by both the perpetrator and the motive behind the crimes. I hope to see many more books in this series available on Audible soon.

Kim Rossi's narration is amazing. She had a unique voice for every character in the story, and she added so much depth to the already excellent character development. Her portrayal of Angela and her dry inflection during some of the funny scenes definitely added to my frequent laughter. I cannot imagine a better choice than Rossi to narrate this delightful cozy mystery.

Funny cute mystery

Cute little story about 2 sisters who live & work together. Their mother, who's a bit eccentric, buys them a dog that turns out to be extremely curious & helps them solve all the mysteries. Keeps you pulled in different directions as to who is killing and attacking everyone. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Crazy

Crazy good book. Two sisters living together and working together and their mom gets them a dog who is the best!
I actually guessed who it was early on in the book but it was one of those “it would be funny if it was them.” Come to find out later in the book I was right and definitely didn’t see the connection of why.
Definitely keeps you pulled in different directions on who is killing and attacking everyone.
A good mystery novel. Love it.

Okay story but terrible narration

Daisy and Rose are two sisters who own a gift shop in a small town. There have been robberies in business in their area, but the two sisters get even more worried when, added to the thefts, there is a dead body in town.

I always enjoy a cozy mystery, so I took the plunge into this one. The story was okay, I was able to guess the murder about halfway in but there weren’t so many characters that had a clear presence from the beginning. The characters were not very developed, which often happens in this kind of book, but it just didn’t work here because both sisters were too similar. A sidekick is often used in cozy mysteries to be able to discuss the case and bounce hypotheses from each other, so I understand why the author decided to include two sisters, but there weren’t any clear aspects that made them different. Their conversations felt too stilted, and the lack of descriptions didn’t help. Also, both were named after flowers, which made them even more similar.

Rose and Daisy own a dog. Animals are common in cozy mysteries, and we often see their owners taking care of their pets. The two sisters often go on walks with Malcolm, but we never see them giving him a bowl of food or water. They also never showed any feelings for him apart from annoyance. In fact, there are several insensitive comments about pets in the book that rubbed me off the wrong way. Something atypical for the genre that didn’t help in making the main characters likable.

The two sisters and their modern are a fun trio but I wasn’t invested enough in the story or the characters to care too much about the outcome of the crime. I just went along with it.

One of the things that mostly threw me off was Kim Rossi’s narration. All sentences were delivered with constant pauses in the wrong places, and she often enunciated things like a news anchor talking about the last catastrophe in the world. The characters sounded different from each other, which was good, but the interpretations and voices were overdone, many times sounding cartoonish. I had a hard time trying to finish this book, and it took me a long time despite it being only six hours long.

Cute story

This was a cute little mystery and a funs tory to listen to. I loved the characters especially Angela. The story wasn't too complex and I figured out "who did it" before the bug reveal but I was still a good listen. The narrator was just ok. Some of the characters sounded the exact same and i had to rewind to figure out who was talking. I wasn't a fan of how one second Rose or Daisy were talking normal and then they sounded like whiny children. Overall this was a good story. I received this book for free for an honest review.

Fun cozy mystery.

Roses and Daisies and Death, Oh My! was an extremely enjoyable cozy mystery featuring a delightful cast of characters. For the most part the story is quick paced and lighthearted, as you'd expect, and there were definitely plenty of laughs to be had, especially thanks to my favorite character in the book, Malcolm the dog! For the most part I thought Kim Rossi's narration was quite good, but a couple of her characters voices were, as another review noted, rather off-putting. I do understand the desire to give each character their own distinct voice/sound, but in this case I think I'd have found the overall listening experience more satisfying had Ms. Rossi simply narrated the entire novel in her regular voice. That being said, it was still quite enjoyable and I would certainly listen to more stuff narrated by Ms. Rossi. Like the story, but...

I enjoyed this book and will look for more books in the series to read.

I had a difficult time with the narration. The narrator's normal voice was great but the character voices were, to me, off-putting. The two main characters sounded so much alike I couldn't tell who was speaking at times. Some of the secondary characters had either strange accents or weird high-pitch or whiny voices. It wasn't terrible, but I found myself making faces a lot while I listened.

I stress, the story was enjoyable and would read more

"What once was lost."

Such an enjoyable book. Two sisters, Rose and Daisy, recent joint owners of a shop in an usually quiet area, are disturbed by a number of local break one and are given a smart but over enthusiastic dog by the quirky, semi alcoholic mother and together they all get drawn into crime solving. There's an ex husband there, too, and the hint of a microfinance to come, plus other assorted shop running characters, most of whom seem as scary as the central sisters. Silly, yes. Fun? Outstanding.

With so much of the story dependant on conversation, a really good narrator is essential. Kim Rossi almost achieves this. Her reading of the text is excellent, her warm and very peasant presentation pulling the reader into the stkry, and her voicing of the main characters is similarly sulerb. However, although she gives individually distinctive voice to all, a couple just don't seem to fir, with one shop keeper Being positively annoying and marring the overall performance.

I was fortunate in being freely gifted with a complimentary copy of Roses and Daisies and Death, Oh My! by the rights holder, at my request, via Audiobook Boom. Thank you so much. It was a deliciously fun cozy mystery even if somewhat formulaic, populated with delightful, if dotty, people - although how they put up with that dog is a mystery in itself! Alsso included at the close of the book are nine cocktail recipes so the reader can join in with the alcoholic fun. Hopefully, this is the first in a series and I look forward to more.

Nothing flowery about murder

I enjoyed this book. This is book number one in a fun cozy mystery series, that isn't to complicated but interesting enough to keep you listening until the end. I liked the unique hiding places that the author came with up and think hide and seek in her house must have been fun. The mystery was good but the clues were to obvious and despite the author trying to plant red herrings I did know who the killer was, okay maybe I didn't guess at the last hiding place of the diamond. Still a good listen and I liked the characters and I want to say the dog but some of his actions had me rolling my eyes instead of laughing. The mum is good for a chuckle though.
With a number of the small town shops having been broken into, sisters Daisy and Rose get an alarm system and a crazy dog to protect they shop and home. But instead of protecting them the dog leads them to a dead homeless man. Was he the one breaking into the shops and if so who killed him? If he wasn't why was he killed? The break ins themselves are strange nothing seems to be taken and it is more like someone is looking for something. With Daisy's cheating ex husband investigation the case, the pair decide if they want to stay safe and stop him from arresting the man showing an interest in Daisy then they will have look into the burglaries and the murder themselves. With Christmas right around the corner things are picking up in the shop, will they have enough time for some late night breaking and entering themselves? Teach there dog some manners? Go on a treasure hunt for a stolen diamond? Catch up on some light reading to unearth clues about the heist that set everything in motion? Catch a killer and have a party?
On the whole I liked the narrator but one of the characters was very annoying. I don't know if she was trying to give her an accent or what but she seemed to pause between each word when that character was talking. Otherwise she was fine.
