Publisher's Summary

With 22 million of her books in print, and 12 consecutive New York Times best-sellers to her credit, Amanda Quick is a phenomenally popular author of historical romances. With This Ring, set in Regency England, sends a beautiful, headstrong woman on a perilous quest for the Forbidden Rings of Aphrodite. To recover her family’s meager fortunes, Beatrice Poole must locate the antiquities stolen from her favorite uncle shortly before his highly suspicious death. Since the Forbidden Rings have a legendary history of magic and mystery, the resourceful Beatrice heads for one man who can help her find them: the darkly handsome Earl, the “Mad Monk” of Monkcrest. Fans around the world are drawn to the dashing heroes and passionate adventures in Amanda Quick’s novels, but it is her sparkling humor and lively wit that keep them coming back for more. Veteran narrator Barbara Rosenblat provides the perfect voices, conveying delicious innuendos, villainous slurs, and lively banter with ease.

    "Good ..... but not great!"

This book isn't your ordinary handsome rogue meets lady blah blah, they have a few problems then live happily ever after. No, this has a good plot that will keep you guessing right til the end. Good narrator too.

I've heard better Amanda Quick (Jayne Ann Krentz) books but I like her work so will continue to download anything available.

Devotee of multi-tasking, keen gardener and cross-stitcher. Now able to do both AND listen to stories at the same time. Bliss.

    "Twist and turns!"

This was my first time reading a book by Amanda Quick and was very enjoyable. Romance, murder and intrigue woven together into an interesting plot beautifully read by the spectacular Barbara Rosenblat who has an amazing voice. Her range of accents and tones has to be listened to to be believed. She reads the male voices so wonderfully that if I didn't know better I'd swear I was actually listening to a male reader and, in this book, her cockney 'ladies maid' pretending to be French had me in giggles. Highly recommended!

    "I liked the leading couple"

This book was not typical in the sense that the hero & heroine were more mature. I liked that! Particularly the sarcastic humor related to being the doddering ages of 39 and 29 respectively. Additionally, the hero had some lovable characteristics (any man who talks to his dog is OK with me :-) and the heroine was not a simpering miss. As always Quick infuses humor which I enjoy. And the intrigue kept me going. I thought I guessed the ending a few times but the twists and turns threw me off enough to make me keep listening. It was worth my credit.

    "Marvelous"

I'd forgotten how witty Amanda Quick (Jayne Krentz) was in her earlier works. I thoroughly enjoyed this romp through regency England and may revisit more of her 1990's books.

"Enthralling blend of mystery and romance"

This was wonderful. I couldn't tell at first if this was going to be mainly a regency romance, or a slightly melodramatic mystery revolving around murder and mysterious artifacts. In fact it was the perfect blend if both, carried off marvelously by two very strong lead characters.

It seemed much more true to life than many other regency romances I've read lately, the characters are practical and forthright about the marriage market, and not overly melodramatic in they're emotion or affections (the advantage of them being older and both previously widowed, and especially contrasted with the young Arabella and Pearson), but also included just enough passion too.

It was quite an adventure, everything from poison and kidnapping, prostitutes and blackmail, secret passages and dark plots... It was quite a murky business, and I really hadn't figured out much of the puzzle until the climactic confrontation at the end, though funnily the one thing I had gotten right early on was the location of the rings.

Wonderfully narrated, enthralling story. Highly recommended.

    "Nice Regency mystery"
Who was your favorite character and why?

    Mrs Poole and Leo

Have you listened to any of Barbara Rosenblat’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Haven't heard her other stuff, but she is excellent. Great with voicing men and women and giving them each a unique sound. Very few narrators can do this (Rosalyn Landor is another one who can pull it off), but she does male and female equally well. It was easy to follow along and get wrapped up in the story. I plan on checking into her other work.

    Any additional comments?

This book really shouldn't be labeled as romance. Yes, there is romance, but it's really a backdrop to the mystery. This book is primarily a mystery with twists and turns. This is not the typical historical romance.

    "Very Enjoyable"

Since Barbara Rosenblat, one of my favorite narrators was narrating the book, Leo and Beatrice reminded me of Amelia Peabody and Radcliffe Emerson (Crocodile on the Sandbank, etc.).

I really enjoy listening to this book and getting a good chuckle of how Leo and Beatrice interacted with each other. It is also one of my favorite books by Amanda Quick.

    "Typical Amanda Quick."

If you have read one, you have read them all. But if you like them, this is a good one. At first I wasn't sure that I liked Barbara Rosenblat reading, but I got use to her and enjoyed the story, rating sould be 3.5. The mystery is very obvious but fun. It always cracks me up that Amanda/Jayne has a lot of her characters be novelist in her stories. Overall a fun and quick getaway.
