Publisher's Summary

Star quarterback Marcus Kingston lives and breathes football. He's trusted his abilities and instincts to get him this far, but an injury last season nearly ended his career. When his coaches want him to wear biofeedback technology to analyze his game, Marcus thinks the idea is ridiculous. Plus, the mousy scientist behind the project knows nothing about sports, and she quickly gets under his skin. But with another QB waiting on the sidelines, Marcus can either agree to participate, or be benched - permanently.

Scientist Clare Wynifred values intellect above most things. With her brain constantly working, she has little interest in her appearance and zero interest in sports. She never imagined her wearable tech being used to improve someone's game, but its success with the team could get her a military contract. Clare may be too late to save her brother, but her technology could save the lives of countless soldiers. She just has to make it work with the stubborn quarterback, and she'll be one step closer to her goal. Marcus and Clare butt heads at first, but their mutual attraction quickly grows. And yet, with everything to lose, it's easy to ignore that together they might be able to go the distance.

Football Drama

Footballer Marcus Kingston has sustained an injury that just might end his career. His team enlist the help of Clare Wynifred, a scientist, who knows nothing about football, but knows everything there is about biotechnology and how to analyze the information to improve an athlete’s game. Marcus wants nothing to do with the technology and certainly nothing to do with the quirky scientist tasked with helping him. Marcus thinks Clare’s just using him to further her career.

It’s amazing to me that author Leslie North could pack so much story into a 3 ½ hour audiobook! There’s nothing lacking in this book. There is drama, angst, and plenty of romance. Both Marcus and Clare are characters that you can’t help but like. They both have serious issues in their past that they need to resolve and you’re rooting for them to find happiness.

Rebecca Roberts narrates, it’s the first audiobook that I’ve listened to her read and she does a good job! Her delivery is a little stiff at times, but really, it’s a minor complaint. Rebecca does excel at voicing characters and I’d like to listen to another book with her as a narrator.

Contemporary Romance WITH Sports! :)

/\

Wired is yet another in the contemporary sports/romance category that I am really excited about. I first discovered this great mix with author Jaci Burton. These are becoming more plentiful and I love it. Leslie North puts forth a plot that is easy to follow, likable characters and straight up romance and sports. It is a perfect book for a beach read or to curl up with for a few evenings.

Rebecca Roberts is a competent and enjoyable narrator. It is a smooth and strong performance. I'll look for her work (along with that of Leslie North) in the future.

4 solid stars across all three categories

Warnings: some strong language and intimate situations

Sports Romance!

I adore sports romance novels and this one did not disappoint. I was actually pleasantly surprised how much impact the story makes in such a short amount of time. Ms. North knows how to tell a great story even if the book is less than four hours long. It's got angst, drama, and plenty of romance. Narration by Rebecca Roberts was great and my first time listening to her work. I really enjoyed her voice. Completely worth the credit!

Story Left Me Hanging

If you could sum up Wired in three words, what would they be?

Good Sports Romance

What other book might you compare Wired to and why?

I might go across the pond and compare this book to Amy Daws book titled "Challenge". I really haven't read too many sports romances but I have listened to Ms. Daws book and what better challenge than to pit US football against UK soccer.

Which character – as performed by Rebecca Roberts – was your favorite?

It would have to be Clare. She's trying to make a difference in a sport that's more about men than women. And there's her passion to try and help the military. Clare wants to use her expertise for helping others which came from the loss of a loved one.

Any additional comments?

This was an enjoyable book that made my commute more pleasurable. Clare found something out about Marcus and than set out to help him overcome something that most of us take for granted. He of course was fighting the change that came down from up above tooth and nail.

The story seems as if these characters could actually exist. I could picture the story actually happening with no problem. It sounds like such a great idea. Maybe the higher ups in the NFL need to read/listen to this book.

I had no issues with Ms. Roberts in her narration other than when it came to the male characters. It was hard to come up with a picture of what Marcus looked like because of that. But in no way did that stop my enjoyment of the book. And it wouldn't stop me from listening to more books narrated by Ms. Roberts. I had to listen to the ending twice because it seemed like I was left hanging. Have already put book two in my wish list.

If you're a fan of sports romance, whether you read or listen, you may want to check out this book. Or even see what else this author has to offer. Ms. North grabbed my attention with the idea of a woman trying to fit into a man's world and actually making a mark. Marcus was a man that felt like he was losing control of his world but Clare was just showing him an option to harness it. For me, the romance was nice but I really liked the technology versus the sport connection. What a great way to go about finding a series and falling in love with its author.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.

OMG I'm hooked! I want more!

I love the detail that Leslie put into creating these characters, they have full histories that have a major impact on the direction of the story, but also makes them feel real and that made me connect with them emotionally. In fact during the last hour of the story I laughed out loud and cried.

The story was emotionally complex and very engaging. I could easily see something like this unfolding in real life and that drew me on and kept me riveted until the end.

I can't wait to see where this series will go next, I definitely need book 2.

The narration is nicely aced, the delivery is smooth and the phrasing is very natural. I was impressed with the male character voices, Claire's voice through me at first but it grew on me over time. Overall it was very well done and helped to draw me into the story.

This book was supplied free by the author/narrator/publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

A sweet and passionate filled romance!

Would you listen to Wired again? Why?

Wired was a well-written entertaining story with a unique plot. There is a lot of action and suspense to grab your attention from beginning to end. This story was amusing and romantic while being intense and maddening at the same time. The characters are well developed and engaging. It was easy to connect with them throughout the book. They were opposites yet their passion drew them together. This story is so emotionally stimulating that you will not want to put it down once you start reading it.

What about Rebecca Roberts’s performance did you like?

The narrator’s performance added to the story making the experience enjoyable. She brought her own style to the characters. You can hear the passion in her performance with the concise and clear speech while adding depth to the story.

Any additional comments?

This was the first book from Leslie North that I have read and it will not be my last. I recommend Leslie North to anyone that wants to read a great romance that develops around sports.

Emotion, Compassion, & so much more!

Leslie North is an author whom I read and I've listened to several of her books as well. Rebecca Roberts is a new narrator for me. I think she has added a lot to the book with her emotions, that one would not get just reading the book. I had recently purchased this particular book in a box set and had read the story before listening to it. I loved the storyline of technology merging with football. I found this to be a totally original book and so enjoyable. Having both read and listened to the book, my preference is the audiobook. I can visualize so much more hearing it. I was voluntarily provided with this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, narrator, and or publisher.

Enjoyed the Story

I got this ARC via audiobook boom. This is my voluntary review. This story started off funny and entertaining. It kept getting better as the H/h butted heads. Sometimes technology can go too far and sometimes not far enough. I loved their interactions and how they each came to respect the other;s point of view. Even though you knew there would be an HEA it came out of left field so to speak. The narrator was good and made the story although some of the deeper voices seemed strained.

Great build up and chemistry!

This was the first of Leslie North's books I've done. I really liked the building of the relationship between Marcus and Clare and the chemistry that's created between them. I loved the different slant of the characters from the "norm" and appreciated each of these and the book all the more for it.

As for the narration, Rebecca Roberts was brilliant- especially the different voices she uses for each character!

I'll be continuing Leslie North's Solomon Series and on the look out for further books by her as well as on the look out for more is Rebecca Roberts performance narrations.

I received a copy of this Audible from the author/narrator/publisher in exchange for an honest opinion.
