Publisher's Summary

The Smallest Mistake

Three went in; one came out. For five years, no trace has been found of two high-school friends who went hiking in the woods near Nashville. The third teen, Amber Ryder, was discovered at the bottom of a ravine with a broken arm, head trauma - and zero memory of the horror that put her there.

Will Put You

What started as a cold case has become a fresh hell for forensic technician Georgia Morgan. Another woman's body is found in the woods, and it leads to the missing teens' remains. But while Georgia works with Amber to try and reawaken her memories, her gut tells her the worst is yet to come.

At a Killer's Mercy

Homicide Detective Jake Bishop can't be sure whether Amber is an expert manipulator or the killer's next target. Either way, he's determined to protect Georgia. Because the deeper she digs into the past, the deadlier the secrets that emerge, and a nightmare years in the making is about to come to a bloody, terrifying end....

couldn't finish. narration was terrible.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

the narrator

Would you be willing to try another book from Mary Burton? Why or why not?

sure, I have enjoyed many books by Mary Burton and was looking forward to Vulnerable. I can't give an honest review of the story because I couldn't get past the narration. I didn't finish the book.

Disappointing..

I have a great appreciation for the hard work and dedication that go into writing a book as well as performing it but this series left me extremely disappointed. Carrying the same characters through each book but having a different, progressively less pleasing, narrator really made me lose taste for the characters by the end. I finished each book because I enjoyed the plot/story but that's it.

This book left me wanting to return it very early on. Karen White did these characters justice in Cover your Eyes. I wish they had stayed with her throughout the series.

Rainy day

This was a good book for a rainy day. I was disappointed in how the author made the lead female character make the connection in the end based on her own experience. Talk about a leap!!!
I must warn that the narrator wasn't bad just better reading something else. There ain't any emotions in the characters so even when they were sad they didn't sound that way. Also there wasn't any accents even though they were from the south. Like I said Rachel Harris isn't a bad narrator just better in a different type of book like a biography. Lastly, I have questions. I wish they were answered instead of making us attend the adoption that they could have said was in the works. It only took 3 months, really? What happened to Ambers mom? Who gets the money?

Great book.

Loved the story. Performance was good, but the intonation whenever the narrator read "he said", "she asked", etc. bothered me more and more as I listened.

Bad narrator - Read it, don't listen to it.

Would you try another book from Mary Burton and/or Rachel Harris?

Yes, I have read Mary Burton books before and liked them. But this narrator was awful. This book may have been good, but I could not get past the person performing. Whine, whine, whine!

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Pretty predictable.

What didn’t you like about Rachel Harris’s performance?

She spoke everything in a whine!.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Vulnerable?

The illegal search of the hotel room, and illegal seizure of evidence. That really threw me off.

The book was decent but narrator makes you crazy.

I am so glad I have finished listening to this book. Several times I considered going to the last chapter just to make it end. The narrator choose the most annoying whiney voice for the main female character. Her attempt at a North Carolina country girl's accent was horrific.

The female villain was nuts but story doesn't really delve into what drove her there. Some back story would have been good b/c the bow on the ending was a damn far fetch. At least she could have decapitated Barbies as a child or kicked cats. Something that made her craziness believable.

This is not the worse purchase I ever made from Audible but it is #3. I have been a member since 2011. So, take this review w/a grain of salt & a pitcher of margaritas your going to need it.
