Publisher's summary

Unemployed accountant Sophie Masterson never dreams that a trip to Salem on Halloween night will change her life forever. When a birthday gift of a psychic reading is thrust upon her by her best friend, Sophie has no choice but to play along. She wants the winning lottery numbers but, instead, receives something far more ominous-a warning of things to come. Being told her own clairvoyant abilities will soon surface should be enough to send any woman running to hide. Throw in the possibility that something sinister is headed her way and all she wants is an easy out.

When asked to help her brother, the police chief, with some easy filing, she's sure that her problems are over. She now has an income, a job, and a safe haven where she can relax. What she doesn't expect is that one of those files will be the catalyst to set the wheels in motion for the predictions to come true.

Detective Jack Love has a hard time following instructions. When his latest bust gets him benched, and shoved in the cold case filing room, the last thing he expects is to be tasked with babysitting the chief's sister. When unqualified and in-need-of-medication Sophie gets the crazy idea to play detective on a case gone cold, there is little he can do to dissuade her from investigating.

Good stories, narrator eh

I enjoyed the paranormal aspect of the first story. The balance of skills didn’t seem right to me as she was working with strong and smart folks, but if you can suspend belief for that, the story is satisfying. Book 2 was not as good because it didn’t have much paranormal (just couple proclamations from one secondary character) in it. It felt more like a .5 story if you know what I mean.

The narrator was not too bad, but not too good either. The men were difficult to distinguish as most of them sounded the same—she seemed to have 2, maybe 3 different male voices—and they weren’t always consistently used for the same males.

An excellent series, each title entertaining.

#1 Lifting the Veil

Sophie was being dragged around Salem, by her best friend. Last stop was the psychic readings. Although Sophie was not a believer, the reading gave her pause to think. Some of the young lady's revelations were a bit too accurate.
On returning home, life became strange, with premonitions occurring, and then the actual events taking place, just as they previously been displayed.
Her brother, the police chief, had helped out with a part time job, not realizing that this would be the platform to launch Sophie's new found abilities.

#2 Beyond the Veil

The past had come back to haunt them, an incident in Marshall and Jack's high school days is being touted as the reason for former friends being murdered.
Sophie takes the lead, going back to where it all began, to try and find out who was doing the killing.

#3 Veiled Intentions

The Pentagon killer strikes close to home, causing Sophie and Marshall to go under cover in the local covern, as a married couple.
It's drama a the way, as attempt after attempt are made on their lives.

#4 Veiled Threats

We are looking at Amber, Sophie's BF. She is having issues from her past, with someone leaving notes for her all around where she lives.
Then, Amber is informed that her grandmother had gone missing. Sophie demands that the Dixen Security team send someone to find the elderly lady.
It's dramatic and suspenseful, with the usual romantic attraction thrown in.
Another good episode from this author.

Good Mysteries

The stories were good with intriguing mysteries. The female characters were a bit whiny while proclaiming what strong women they were. The narrator does a horrible job with the male voices. They either sound like they have a three pack a day smoking habit, or they are gangsters from the 1940s.

Okay stories. Good Narration.

Well this was a long book. It did have "4 stories" however, the first 3 could have been one book to be honest. The 4th story was about different people.

So book one Lifting the Veil was interesting and had my attention. I liked Sophie she was strong and I Jack was kind of immature to me and I wasn't real thrilled with him. But he wasn't the worst. There was some mystery going on here and her abilities come to life. Rather quick really.

The second book, Beyond the Veil was a little better and I liked Marshall with Sophie so much more than with Jack, he was much more mature and sexy. There was a bit of mystery in this story as well. And sex.

The third book, Veiled Intentions was good except at this point I am totally sick of Sophie. Her whole personality just changed she acted like she was the boss, the one with the most experience and knowledge. Really?? She was a graduated accountant (never actually working as an accountant) when she got a job as a file clerk at the police station. But within 8 months she acted like she was totally in charge and knew more than the these guys who have been working security and were Seals. UGH..

The fourth book Veiled Threats was NOT about SOPHIE! YAY! I was so glad. It was about her best friend Amber and Aiden. What a relief.
This might be my favorite, just because I was really sick of Sophie's entitled bossy attitude.

There was a lot of dialogue throughout all 4 books which was great, I love lots of dialogue. There was sex so this was not rated G. Not erotica.

As for the narration, it was pretty good. This was my first listen to Tess Irondale, I would listen to her again. She did the men's voices well and the gave everyone their own voice. She read with emotion and had a nice reading voice.

I did get this book as a free read with my KU subscription and 1.99 for the audible.

Really Good Book

I loved the story line. The first book was a little slow getting into but after that I was hooked. I am sorry to see it end

It’s ok

The narration is great, plot line works... should be a great series But... the romance is old... the female lead when is is without the males in the book becomes needy...I made it through book 1 and 2...barely ( I just half listened). I think I will go and read a zombie apocalypse series to get the sugar out of my ears...

Story OK

The narrator's ability to do voices is really annoying. She really does not do them well. She would be great at straight reading.
