Publisher's summary

After eight years, Henley Calvert is headed home. Back to the family farm and small town she left behind, never to be thought of again. Too much regret and shame to bear. But she's the only one left to see to her family's legacy, so she must return to Ashfall and face all the ghosts that haunt her.

Gatlin Holt, the family farmhand, awaits her arrival, and lends a hand - in more ways than one. He reacquaints Henley with the lay of the land while helping her heal her soul with a new outlook on life. Yet every time she thinks some peace may be within reach, Henley hits another roadblock. The biggest of which is Keaton Cash - her childhood nemesis who owns the farm next door.

And no, it's not a love triangle. That's impossible when Henley's heart is closed, incapable of love.

Keaton F*cking Cash!

This was an amazing joy ride! My first book by S.E. Hall and it definitely won't be the last. This is a very enthralling love story about a boy who meets his true love at 10 years old and holds fast to his commitment to her through time and life's ups and downs. This is such a well written story with flawed characters and plot twists that in the end seem like a straight line. There were surprises throughout that kept me hungry for more. All I can say is that I want me a Keaton F*cking Cash -- are they handing those out somewhere?

Brooke Bloomingdale did a fantastic job as the narrator. I was feeling all those emotions with Henley and Keaton -- the laughing, the crying oh and all that hot loving. Another enjoyable listen by BB.

Absolutely worth a credit and multiple listens.

SIMPLY RIVETING.. REGRETS, REDEMPTION & LOVE

What a life-changing journey S.E. Hall has just taken me on.. through the heartache, regrets, loss, self-doubt, guilt and shame.. to then emerge on the other side renewed, regenerated, whole, sane.. and very much loved. There's depth to the storyline and the character growth that Henley went through was nicely paced as she lets go of the past, forgives herself and begins to live again in the here and now. Because there's a happy future ahead where she's not alone, where she's contented and where she's very much loved by her man.

After eight years away Henley returns to her childhood farm where bitter-sweet memories bombard her, familiar smells stop her in her tracks and a bucket full of regrets weigh her conscience down. However, she must persevere because Henley has her estranged Mother's funeral to arrange and a farm to run.. but a new friend is waiting to help her on the farm, guide her to make the right choices and offer her wise words of wisdom and encouragement. Gatlin won't be the one to steal her heart, that's reserved for Keaton,. but he is important and will help Henley write her own HEA ending.

Keaton Keaton Keaton.. Keaton f'ing Cash was Henley's childhood nemesis - his farm was next to hers and from the age of 10 a feud bickering developed between them that would last through her school years and until she returns 15 yrs after their first meeting. But Henley soon finds out that NOTHING was as she thought, years have been wasted and Keaton would turn out to be her rock, her salvation.. and her HEA.

What a well-written and delicious unfurling of a woman's struggles as she comes to terms with her life, the losses she's had, the years of assumptions she once made, the mistakes she has to own up to, the wonderful life she could have if she forgave herself.. and the forever kind of love that was always hers for the taking. Each scene was captivating, the characters felt real, the hero was a swoon-worthy sexy possessive yet supportive Alpha, the chapters flew by, the romance was beautiful and slow to develop, the passionate sex scenes were worth waiting for, there's some humor and the hero's impassioned words of devotion were heartfelt and raw. S. E. Hall has managed to weave angst, drama and a nice twist into the storyline too. Told from Henley's POV (except one important chapter towards the end which was from Keaton) and the narration that brought it all to life was just perfect.

Worth a credit? Yes, it was moving, addictive and emotional as Henley and Keaton are helped by Fate and Destiny to get a second chance to get it right.

Ending was problematic

I really liked almost everything but then... there's a pointless revelation at the end which brings into question the sanity of the main character, It didn't add anything to the story at all.

KEATON F***ING CASH!! Can we clone him? Like NOW?!

I’ll be honest. After having listened to probably near a thousand audio books this would only be my 2nd time leaving a written review. And it’s all because of KEATON F***ING CASH! I want to strap down my husband and force him to listen to this book. Harsh, I know because I’m married to a good man, but hell! If KEATON F***CKING CASH doesn’t have you clenching your thighs and dreaming of unicorns and rainbows then I’m giving up Audible for Lent!

Narration was stellar. Slow start. All the guessing game in the beginning was a bit frustrating. Gatlin pulls you back in… such a great guy! Then BAM! KEATON F***ING CASH! Nuff said. I was conjuring up all kinds of theories but didn’t guess the twist at the end. (I just didn’t grow up with one so I didn’t even consider it. You’ll have to listen to get the reference.)

This one is tucked safely in my Favorites folder. Totally unexpected and a happy surprise. You’ll tear up, you’ll laugh your a** off, you’ll swoon and you’ll be writing your Christmas list early with KEATON F***ING CASH right at the very top. Yes, he absolutely deserves the full name mentions!

Mixed Feelings

I have mixed feelings about this one. The book was ok. Male character was just too flawless. Do you really get men like that? Maybe that’s why it is called fiction…. The end was a revelation however. I really did not see that coming. Other than that, not bad, I still enjoyed the book and the narration.

Great Potential That Fell Flat

The author could have removed 6 to 8 chapters of unnecessary filler in this book. That's my complaint.

WOW

I have well over 300 audible books in my library, and I don’t think any of them have surprised me as much as this book. The performance was amazing, I love love love her male voice, I love the characters, the growth in all of them, the twists, the turns! As soon as I hit the last chapter I wanted to read the book all over again, wondering if there were any major hints to the twists and surprises in the book. I mean at first I was pretty hesitant, the female had a huge stick up her you know what at first, and seemed to be rude in some instances I think, but like I said, the growth is everything, and it sort of just comes together perfectly. I never praise a book this high, I’ve only ever done 4 stars highest, but I’m giving this book five because even though I hated moments of the book, I think it was real, and not every person acts all roses and daisies all the time! It only
Made it more authentic in my mind.

The h is beyond irrational!

2.75 Stars for me!

My rating range of this story... 2 - 3.5 Stars
If significant, why? All about the h

Note on my rating... I gave an extra star as I really like the author.

Main Character Ratings...
H = 6 Stars
h = 3 Stars

Was cheating involved? No
Any major triggers to be aware of? Death of a young family member

Scenes with heat... Yes
What point does it start? 70% mark
How much of the story? 15%
Anything beyond M/F? No
If yes, explained

Heat Rating... 5/10
Clean or Fade to Black - 1 or 2
Normal to Descriptive 3-5
Detailed Descriptive Sex - 6-7
Um, Wow, Beyond Descriptive Sex - 8 or above

Was there so much sex or unrealistic sex that you rolled your eyes and/or skipped forward? No

The back story... The h comes back to town 8 years after leaving due to a tragedy to prepare for the funeral of her mother.

The Romance... It takes a while to develop but I will guarantee that there is no love triangle (although it looked like it was heading that way). The H was invested but the h stayed trapped in her head.

The drama explosion... Again, all about the h
Did it feel real or contrived? Neither
Was it OTT? A bit
Separation involved? Not really
Was it resolved properly or rushed? A bit rushed!

Final Notes... S. E. Hall is an excellent author and I enjoy most of her stories. This one could have been a 5 Star listen for me but she kept the h trapped in her 17 year old head (think she is 25/26 now) through 95% of the story.

She goes radio silent for 8 years on her mom without a valid reason. She goes through therapy but obviously it had no effect (many times, therapy needs to be a part of life). Her hatred for the H started with a juvenile argument when she was 8 and he was 10. She refuses to see what is right in front of her. I think that 40% of the story is the h in her head or berating herself.

Minor spoilers below...

One major issue for me is that the h goes into a bar with the lesser H to have a drink after a successful cattle auction. She sees the actual H sitting at a table with another woman, freaks out, takes off and then shuts him out because he was obviously cheating. It then drags on for 3 chapters while the h berates the H and herself for her stupidity in trusting the H. Why was she upset? The H was in the bar with another woman AS SHE WAS AND SHE WAS WITH ANOTHER MAN WHO IS INTERESTED IN HER! Really? It is OK for her to be there with another man but not for him with another woman??

The H gets a lower rating from me as well due to his overwhelming demand for control over all aspects of the h's life. I know that he is afraid that she will rabbit but he was smothering! The other knock against the H is that he gets into a fight with another man who insults the h to get a rise out of him. The H is willing to fight in court to make sure that the bad guy does jail time and gets into other legal trouble but she refuses to allow it. He was an idiot for acting like a teenager but to stop the charges that the bad guy would have faced was idiotic!

I couldn’t get past Chapter 2. I couldn’t give a care about yet another sad depressed character. Yuck!

I Want more!

Love these characters so much! Didn’t want the book to end. Sweet and heart wrenching. There is one part however I wish was different. Don’t want to give away any spoilers though.
Brooke Bloomingdale did an amazing job!
This is definitely worth a credit/purchase.
