Publisher's summary

Scientist Maryse Robicheaux thought that a lot of her problems had gone away with her mother-in-law's death. The woman was rude, pushy, manipulative and used her considerable wealth to run herd over the entire town of Mudbug, Louisiana.

Unfortunately, death doesn't slow down Helena one bit.

DEA Agent Luc LeJeune is wondering what his undercover assignment investigating the sexy scientist has gotten him into - especially as it seems someone wants her dead. Keeping his secrets while protecting Maryse proves to be easier than fighting his attraction for the brainy beauty.

Fell in Love with this little story

I fell instantly in love with the character of Maryse Robicheaux. She is smart, strong-willed, flawed and amazing. The little town of Mudbug, Louisiana is just as unique as Maryse. This little story has a little bit of everything: danger, romance, humor and paranormal. It is part cozy mystery, harlequin suspense and a telling of living in Louisiana. The character of Helena Henry is absolutely hilarious and I loved how she wasn’t constantly in Maryse’s face. For a ghost, she gave Maryse plenty of space.

I also really liked the love interest because appearance/description wise Luc Lejune is very different from other men I’ve read in books and his connection to Maryse was well written and played out. Maryse doesn’t rely solely on Luc in the book and I love that there is plenty of scenes between her and the other citizens of Mudbug.

One of the better parts of this book is how unique the rules to the ghostly world are compared to other books. Jana Deleon did a good job of letting the rules of the ghostly realm be explained in tune with the story’s progression.

Johanna Parker did a good job of narrating. Her accent felt natural and realistic and the characters were very well developed. There were only a couple of times where I got confused between Maryse and her best friend Sabine.

Disappointed in Content

I wish Audible had a content rating of some kind. I bought this book during one of the yearly sales because it sounded fun and it is a fun story. I browsed the reviews quickly and it seemed perfect for my next mystery series.

The narration is southern and well done. I had no clue who the villian was. The problem? I like clean stories that I can play when my kid are around. This is not one of them. There is a LOT of cursing, vulgarity, and a sex scene near the end. It's a shame, as this book and series definitely would stand without such nonsense.

Very Entertaining If You Need a Smile Read This

I had fun reading this book. Helena was our ghosts name and she was hilarious. To me, this wasn't really a romance novel. But I must admit that there was a little hanky-panky going on. I really liked this book I certainly needed a smile and the feel good feeling that goes along with it. In addition, the narrator was Awesome!
