Publisher's summary

Alexa:

I hate him, but I want him...

I hate the emotional blackmail that my mom gives me for not being with Sebastian, the guy my mom wanted me to marry. I never wanted him. But if I don't, my mom will end her relationship with me.

I am only interested in the quarterback who I cheered for on the sidelines, even though I hate his guts. Regardless, I can't deny what my body and heart desire. But we are about to graduate and go our separate ways. What am I going to do?

Martin:

I've always loved her, but I'm poorer than she knows...

Playing my last year in college as the star quarterback people thought I was, it was bittersweet. I hope I get drafted into the NFL to be able to help pay my family back for all they've done, and get them out of that trailer. But that would mean being far from Alexa.

She was the cheerleader I always wanted by my side. But man, she could be so stuck up sometimes! That was until our friends locked us up in the dorm and wouldn't let us leave until we sorted things out. I have no idea what will happen next...

This is a full length bad boy sports novel, with no cliffhanger, no cheating, and a happily ever after.

buy the ebook, audio is horrible

The editing of this audio is horrible. The volume fluctuates, the cadence is all over the place, narrator has a hard time keeping the voices straight between characters and it feels very pieced together so there are long pauses or non at all. I read this story and loved it so added the audio upgrade. very glad I didn't use a credit for this audiobook

Alexa & Martin

The audio recording could have been better. I feel like maybe a duo narration would have made it much better. The Story itself was a good one. Martin and Alexa were great characters. Martin was the star quarterback of his team. He was on scholarship and hoping to get drafted into the NFL after college. Alexa was the head captain of the cheerleader team and not your average rich girl. Even though she came from a wealthy family she was very grounded and down to earth. Will these two find a HEA or will they let other people influence their decision. Pick up a copy of this story I recommend it.

Bad narrator

Liked the book but not crazy about the narrator. Would of liked a different narrator.

Poor Recording

This recording skips over a few words every couple of minutes. For me it was incredibly distracting and not worth finishing.

Not what I expected

I listen to at least 5 audiobooks a week. This is the first time I have listened to this author. The story was good but the narrator ruined the book. She read very slow and you could hear her breathe, also her inflection was off. As much as I liked the book I don't think I can stand to listen to this lady again for the rest of the series.

Can't do it

I could not get past chapter 3. I thought I was listening to some middle school girly brat drama.

Pass on audio if you want to check out the book

The voice of the characters sounded young, naive, and a bit immature. These characters are in the process of finishing up their final months of college and getting ready to go into the real world. At that stage in life, I expect a higher level of maturity than what was displayed here.

The plot was very bland with nothing attention-grabbing or making it worth while to invest in the story or characters. There was a disconnect from the characters and all the sudden “requirements” of a romance novel. It all seemed too forced.

The epilogue was jam-packed with HEA’s and it was a bombardment of eye roll inducing information.
Overall, this book was a quick read for a lazy afternoon, but nothing to write home about.

As far as the audio goes, it was absolutely awful. There was constant skipping which led to words getting cut out, random pauses, and delays in the audio. There were also moments of low volume and then sudden high volume that was irritating. The narrator herself lacked emotion and cadence to her narrative. All of that really ruined the flow of the story and the listening experience as a whole.

If you want to check this book out, I highly suggest reading this book instead of listening to the audio version.

Random thought: Why is the subtitle, A “Bad Boy” Sports Romance? Martin wasn’t a bad boy. Like, at all. He was sweet and gentlemanly, and smart. No kind of bad was involved whatsoever.

Not a bad boy romance but a sweet one

How did the narrator detract from the book?

It wasn't necessarily the narrator but the sound quality. The sound wasn't consistent and would go from quiet to loud so I was constantly adjusting the volume. At times the voice sounded so different like they re-did the scene but didn't make sure the voice matched.

What character would you cut from Touchdown?

Donny, he was annoying and immature. I didn't feel he added anything to the story but more childish behavior.

Any additional comments?

Touchdown was a quick light read with no big drama (even though it had the potential for it).

Alexa came from a very well off family who had ideals that she should only date and marry within her family's social status. She's in college and partying like any other college student might do but she is scared to date anyone since she knew her parents would not allow. Alexa does not have the rich snobby girl personality you would expect but she does like to spend her family's money.

Martin came from nothing but he is there on a football scholarship as the head quarterback. He has always had a thing for Alexa but years of miscommunication has caused these two to overlook each other or even maybe not like each other. The pull is still there and at times it made Martin sound like kind of a pansy. He is not the bad boy type you would first think when seeing the cover (and the fact that it says Bad Boy Romance).

I did enjoy the epilogue, while corny HEA, it fit the story perfectly.

Horrible Narration...

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The only way this would have been a 4 or 5 star listening experience for me is if it had a different reader that knows what they are doing both with voice and the recording itself, and to have someone edit the story line that has the potential to be much better than it is.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I like romances so I'll keep listening to them.

How could the performance have been better?

The only way it could've been better is if it were a different person. If Lynnae Stanwick is going to continue to narrate anything she needs to hire a coach who will give her an honest review and teach her how to use her voice correctly throughout the narration. Also, she needs lessons in how to use her recording equipment because she cuts out some words, has long pauses in other places and goes from a level that you can't hear to one that busts your eardrums. Her voice fluctuation and vocal expressions happen at all the wrong times and don't make sense with the scenes. Obviously, she can read and has potential but just needs some coaching and directing by someone with some experience.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Touchdown?

The continual references to the difference in their wealth, the drinking until blacking out scenes without addressing it properly as related to safety and getting help.

Any additional comments?

I would think an author with 12 books under their belt would produce a more refined product. This story line is good and has potential especially since it's a sports related theme but it still needs a lot of work. In the future, a better narrator would definitely help.

Overall great

Some tech errors, I think? The sound was wonky in a few spots and effected the flow of the story. Overall story and narrator were great!
