Publisher's Summary

Me: My childhood was stolen by a monster. I've forgotten what love feels like. What happiness feels like. What hope feels like. I am numb.

Him: He's possibly as damaged as I am. Maybe even more. Scarred just as much on the inside as the outside. Just like me. He doesn't speak. He doesn't smile. He hides in the woods like an animal. I should be scared of him, but I'm not. He's the only one that has ever made me feel. And I want to make him feel, too. Everything....

A very dark Cinderella story.

Carian Cole doesn't just tell a story, but rather takes you on a realistically beautiful journey. I own every book available by this author on audible and can't wait for more. This author's way of really humanizing her characters is like nothing I've ever experienced while listening to a book before. Life and the people in it aren't always a pretty fairy tale and she captures that good and evil balance perfectly. I also love that all of Carian's book's include animal rescues. By always weaving this subject matter in the stories she writes brings awareness to the furry friends that so desperately need our help. Carian, is one of the best story tellers of her time. She has a unique way of making you understand her complex characters, describing the scenes without unnecessary information, and wrapping her endings up in a believable way. Everything is balanced so nicely. I hope her writing style never changes.

Now on to the spoiler free review. Tyler is a hermit in the woods. An outcast from society his physical scars make it hard for him to go in public because of the stares and judgement he receives. He's content with his solitary life spending time creating beautiful things and rescuing animals. One day he rescues Holly from a horrific situation. Misunderstandings about that day changes things for both of them. Flash forward year's later.. Holly feels like no one can completely understand her and what she's endured. The one thing she never forgot about that night was the prince who saved her. When the universe puts these soul mates back in each others path's they only find comfort from their abnormal lives when they are spending together. They give one another the courage to heal. She see's the real man behind the scare's and he soothes her PTSD. Love and intimacy blossom very slowly because Tyler is respectful, patient and cautious of her past. The prologue was absolutely wonderful!! It made me want to hear more.

I think Ava and Guy did a great job making this memorably mesmerizing story even better. This book was not only worth the credit, but the wait. It was certainly more than I anticipated and my expectations were high. *Now a little warning* this book does deal with heavy subject matter like alcohol, drugs, death, and child abuse. I hope this doesn't discourage anyone from listening because you will be so absorbed you won't be able to pause it. Even though there are a couple of beautifully written sex scenes between Holly and Tyler the main focus of this book is not the sex. It's about two broken people finding everlasting love.

IT TOTALLY TIED ME UP IN ITS HAUNTING CHAPTERS

This isn't a sweet easy-going listen.. instead the only fairytales are the ones a six year old girl has in her backpack when she's abducted.. ones that become everything to her in the eleven years of her captivity and abuse. She knew only the stories in those well-loved books and when she was able to watch tv alone in the basement if she'd been a good girl.. and then her Prince came and saved her. A damaged scarred blue-eyed Prince who had his own tragedies and demons to fight.. but slowly, over time, these two broken people saw the beauty beneath the scars, healed and helped one another to get their own special fairytale HEA ending.

Worth a credit? Again, Carian Cole pushes the boundaries to give a very different unconventional love story and it was heartbreaking and heartwarming in equal measures.. and it's hauntingly tragic as it is hauntingly beautiful. Intense dual POV story, good narration and yes, imo, creditworthy.

Such an awesome story!

This long awaited audiobook by the wonderful Carian Cole is the story of Tyler, a reclusive and damaged young man who lives in a cabin in a deeply wooded area. When out walking one day he hears a sound and finds a girl in a hole underground covered by a door. After rescuing her and dealing with her kidnapper, she goes to a psychiatric facility for two years. The story is complex and twists around, keeping your attention rapt. When she meets him again, they are both drawn to one another despite their trust issues. Can two horribly damaged people come together and save each other? Great narration as well!

✫✫ 3.5 Stars ✫✫

I'm on the fence about this book. I love this author and have loved all of her other audiobooks but this one was 50/50 for me. There were a lot of things I loved about it. I love the characters, their relationship and how they help each other heel. I like how they came together and all the special things he does for her to make her comfortable. That being said I felt like all of those things would have made this book great but then all the unrealistic things start to happen. Too many coincidences for me. Their paths cross too many times for me to find it believable and that hurt the story for me.

The narration was also 50/50 for me. Ava Erickson was a perfect casting choice! Guy Locke not so much, his style just isn't for me. He is to nasally and I always feel like he's trying to sound like an announcer or something.

Great Romance, Great Story - Kept Me Entertained

Have you listened to any of Ava Erickson and Guy Locke ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Narration was excellent. Both Ms Erickson and Mr. Locke gave each character a unique voice with appropriate emotional inflection. It was such a pleasure that I will likely look for books where they are listed as narrators. Authors, do you get to choose who narrates your books? Choose wisely, it can make or break a series in my opinion. These two are winners. I only wish Audible made it easier to follow narrators as well as authors....

Any additional comments?

Now that you know the narration is top notch, it is up to the author to bring it home, and she did. What a beautiful and unique story. I liked the fact that I did not have to experience the abuse the main character suffered and all its distasteful details. We got enough to understand. I was engaged throughout the entire story as the romance developed. The attraction grew and eventually led to steam but this not a story built around sex scenes (thank goodness, we have had enough of insta-love, smut, no story line - it leaves me hollow) I definitely recommend and will watch for additions to the series.

A bond that will stay with me for many years.

This was a book filled with tragedy and heartbreak. But most of all love and understanding. For two souls trying to find there way back into a life that they thought they could never have. There's only one Love scene at the end that is tender caring and and something they never thought they would each find together.
I usually enjoy my romance books with more sexual encounters but this is a book filled with so much feeling that I never missed not having it. Well worth my credit and then some.

I have listened to all of Carian Coles novels and this one is by far the best. A roller coaster of emotions. Tough to listen to but it's a wonderful love story.

Love this book

I really enjoyed this book and was sad when it was over. The whole subject is fairly taboo but is very well written and simply brilliant. The narrators are perfect to. I look forward to Carians future books

A believable fairytale

Not as much lust or as many sex scenes as I would have liked. But still a great book.
