Publisher's summary

A MASKED MAN . . .

Winter Makepeace lives a double life. By day he's the stoic headmaster of a home for foundling children. But the night brings out a darker side of Winter. As the moon rises, so does the Ghost of St. Giles - protector, judge, fugitive. When the Ghost, beaten and wounded, is rescued by a beautiful aristocrat, Winter has no idea that his two worlds are about to collide.

A DANGEROUS WOMAN . . .

Lady Isabel Beckinhall enjoys nothing more than a challenge. Yet when she's asked to tutor the Home's dour manager in the ways of society - flirtation, double-entendres, and scandalous liaisons - Isabel can't help wondering why his eyes seem so familiar - and his lips so tempting.

A PASSION NEITHER COULD DENY

During the day Isabel and Winter engage in a battle of wills. At night their passions are revealed . . . But when little girls start disappearing from St. Giles, Winter must avenge them. For that he might have to sacrifice everything-the Home, Isabel . . . and his life.

Loved It!

What did you love best about Thief of Shadows?

I loved everything, the story is fantastic and keeps you reading - I couldn't stop, pretty much read it through in one sitting. I love this series, it has been really fun, and I can't wait for the next book to come out. The ending was a bit of a surprise, I thought this would be the end of the series when it was revealed that Winter is the Ghost - but the end is nice and gives a twist that wasn't expected.

Any additional comments?

Can't wait for the next book to see where the Ghost takes us next!

Excellent book and narrator.

I really liked Winter's story. I liked that it was not the normal Lord marries a Lady. I also love the interjected humour! I really liked the ending which wasn't quite what I was expecting.

Elizabeth Hoyt?

I remember reading EH's books as a woman in my 20's. They all hinted at desire and passion, but were cloaked in innuendoes. Not this series. I was so excited to see this last installment of the series! The first 4 books had all the intrigue and passion I love in a good historical romance novel. This book had an interesting twist, in that it is the man who is the "innocent". The characters are very interesting, and the mystery surrounding the missing children is slowly built in a manner that had me sitting on the edge of my seat with anticipation of what would happen next. Reading the first books in the series is not a must, but does give a lot of insight into the male protaganist's persona. And the chapter beginnings telling tales of "The Ghost of St. Giles" is a stroke of real genius. If you like historical romances with lots of mystery, intrigue and hot, hot, hot desire, I cannot recommend this series enough.

Also, Ms. McNab, while not quite in Ann Floxniks league, does a very good portrayal of the different voices of the characters.

Loved it

Thief of Shadows ( Maiden Lane Book 4 ) by Elizabeth Hoyt Amazing! 5 + stars. I absolutely found a true love in this author. This one love match with a twist. Winter Makepeace is a dream. A school master in the day time and The Ghost of St. Giles at night. A strong head widow Isabel Beckinhall who cared nothing for the gossip and did everything in her power to find out the Identity of The Ghost of St. Giles and make him see the other side of a good live full of love. The humor, LOVED IT . I'm in love with Winter This book was a page turner for me. The love scene amazing that never disappoints. I'm on Book 5 and already loving Godric <3

By far my favorite so far and I loved 1-3 too!!!!!

I thought this book was very witty, romantic and intriguing. I was looking forward to Winter's story and it was so beautifully written. Winter and Isabelle story was, to put it simply, SIZZLING. Loved the book and would definitely read or listen to again.

Narration was awesome...story not really my thing

Audio-book: Narrator - Ashford McNab

This is my third audio narrated by Ms. McNab and I am officially a huge fan at this point. She does an incredible job of bringing these characters to life. Even if I find myself not loving the story itself, the narration is enough to keep me returning!

I have to admit, I read/listen to historical romance because generally I’m looking for the old fashioned kind of romance that pretty much holds to the era’s traditions and beliefs. This one was so over the top of it I almost wanted to chuck my audio player. The hero is a virgin and younger than the heroine while she has slept with more men than her husband. While I don’t mind a little twist here and there, I was disappointed in this set up. The mystery and drama were very well executed and I enjoyed the secondary characters very much. The steam level was quite high and after I got past the H/h pasts I was able to move forward.

Another Great Addition to the Series!

Thief of Shadows by Elizabeth Hoyt (Audio Edition)
Narrated by Ashford McNab
Maiden Lane series #4

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ This book was great! I loved Winter Makepeace. He is such an honourable man and he keeps himself this way until Lady Beckinhall threatens his sanity. These two together are fantastic! I loved how the roles were reversed, she the more experience and he the innocent. She the aggressor and teacher, though Winter stole that role some times.

There was some great action.. How could there not be when the Ghost of St.Giles is around. The lead characters had some wonderful moments, great banter and awesome chemistry. Who knew I would have to say yet again: that this is my favourite of the series so far!!

This may sound foolish, and I know they are just children… but I really want Joseph Tinbox and Peach to get a story later in this series. He could be all grown up and comeback to her after years of letters.. Yes.. I know, I am ever the romantic!!

I have already downloaded book 5 in this series and can’t wait to read it! I am sad to see that the narrator is not the same... as Ashford McNab is fantastic! Here's hoping this new narrator can compare!

Elizabeth Hoyt is at her best!

Would you listen to Thief of Shadows again? Why?

Yes. I love the idea of a Merry Widdow taking on a slightly younger, straight-laced, mysterious man.

What does Ashford McNab bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her voice has an element of innocence that is deceptive when it comes to Elizabeth Hoyt's writing.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Winter is Hot!
