Publisher's Summary

When Sally's husband dies in a freak tractor accident, she is devastated, but not for the reasons most people thought. Secretly, quietly, Sally is glad he is gone, and she detests herself for having such hideous complicated thoughts. Jim had unknowingly broken her dreams, for there was always an undercurrent to her, a mismatched sexual electrical wire that no rancher could ever understand. By the time he had gotten her pregnant, well, she resented him for trapping her into a life she desperately wanted to escape from.

Life as a single mother and reluctant rancher is taking its toll on Sally when a mysterious stranger responds to a help wanted post she placed at the local feed store. Sensing he would be a significant upgrade, she hires him and fires the two worthless ranch hands currently working for her. Besides fulfilling Sally's need for an all-purpose can-do worker, Ramiro also proves to be good at helping her family rebuild itself. To her surprise, Sally finds herself falling in love with Ramiro, but resists acting on her feelings for fear of being rejected and causing the resulting awkwardness to ruin what they have. How could she know that fate has other plans?

Great book

This book tells how a widow struggles with finding her way back to being happy. This is a beautiful story about finding love again.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romance.

A deep and different book

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I don't think I would. The story was very different from anything I have listened to. The story was good but I did not enjoy the audio as much as I was hoping.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

The ending was a little predictable for me.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

I think the narrator did a good job with what she had to do.

Did The Widow's Secret inspire you to do anything?

No but I can see how it could have.

Great short story

I really enjoyed this story. The narrator Terri England did an excellent job of portraying the characters in this story especially with the use of different accents. The storyline was sweet but I wished the author had elaborated a bit more in certain sections. However this was a great story to listen too via audible.

How do you change how you see other people?

The narration was great; the accents for the character voices are really well done, and the whole narration had a really nice flow to it.

I found the story really interesting. In some ways it’s an examination of human prejudice, but it’s not dull by any means. It moves fairly quickly because it’s a short book.

At the beginning Sally sees Ramiro as a lesser person because he’s Mexican and I found this really interesting because I don’t understand why someone would think this way. Watching Sally’s view shift over the story as she’s forced to re-examine her beliefs about race and people’s value based on their race.

This book was supplied free by the author/narrator/publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

Short romantic tale that makes you feel

I enjoyed this book but wish there'd been more. More interactions between the children and Ramiro. More about how Ramiro and the animals seemed to understand each other so well. More of the incredible talents of Ramiro. Just more Ramiro!

The story was decently written. I enjoyed the characters and the emotion that they made me feel. I did find that the summary is a little misleading, at least it was to me. I thought that there was going to be some BDSM or some kink in the book. I won't go into detail on the sex scene but it felt awkward to me for some reason. But that didn't take away from my enjoyment of the story.

I enjoyed the narration of the book. I'm not sure what the accent from that state sounds like but I thought the narrator did a good job at sounding like a ranching lady. She enunciated and emoted well, which is important to me. I often felt like I was hearing a reading of a diary or listening to a friend telling her take, which is definitely not a bad thing.

I enjoyed more than I thought I would!

First of all, I would like thank the narrator for giving me the chance to listen to this book. I loved her take on a Western accent. The story itself was great. I thought it had a steady pace, especially given the length, which is not that long. In all honesty, I found the narration to exceed my expectations. As a Hispanic, I was so glad to see a Hispanic character. I think both the author and narrator did a great job with foreplay and giving the listener/reader an idea of what is going on. It was clear. It was really great to listen to while I was in the car and I finished it while waiting for my sisters to come out of choir practice. It kept my attention from start to finish. I really liked the slow build of the story. The character didn't fully accept being in love until later, and yet it all worked perfectly. Really great story.
