Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Julie Garwood has captured the hearts of millions of listeners worldwide with timeless tales of love and soaring adventure. Now, returning to the enchanting world of her classic love story “The Bride,” she brings to glorious life the passion, intrigue, and rivalry of medieval Scotland....

Resigned to an arranged marriage to a highland laird she has never met, Lady Brenna journeys from England to Scotland certain she will suffer a loveless marriage. But en route to her betrothed, a rival band of Werce, painted warriors intercept her caravan and demand that she marry their leader -- the handsome, quick-tempered laird Connor MacAlister, the same man she'd repeatedly proposed to as a child while he'd been a visitor to her father's castle.

Though Brenna scarcely remembers the secret missives she'd sent to MacAlister declaring her love, she has never forgotten the tall visitor's dazzling, unexpected smile. Now older and wiser, Brenna harbors no illusions that Connor is in love with her -- indeed, after a hasty forest wedding, Connor assures her she can return home once she has borne him a son. Lady Brenna has no idea that her capture is merely the first act of vengeance against her betrothed, Connor's sworn enemy.

Determined to be happy, Brenna soon endears herself to most of the MacAlister clan, despite -- or perhaps because of -- her uncanny knack for getting into trouble. And although she comes to adore her brave, superstitious, gentle husband, she has no clue that Connor lives for the moments she whispers "I love you"...words she never meant him to hear. But, as she sets out to win the heart of the brave chieftain, a legacy of revenge ensnares Brenna in a furious clan war -- and only her faith in her gallant husband can save her....

Light Fun and Romantic Story

Most Julie Garwood books are wonderful stories and this one didn't disappoint. This book is the charming and entertaining story of Brenna and Conner that is jam packed with feisty conversations and laugh out loud funny scenes. Of course it wouldn't be a Highlander book without the bad guys who added a bit of mystery and sadness to the tale. It's a light feel good type of book that is worth a credit but because the price is reasonable you may not choose to use the credit. Either way it is worth a listen.

L.O.V.E!!!!! 💜

Oh my I just feel like home when I get to read a book that I genuinely enjoy! The only problem is that its always over before I’m ready and then I’m sad!! This book is the sequel to “The Bride.” I loved that book as much as this one. I am a huge fan of Julie Garwood and this doesn’t disappoint. I don’t listen to these books for ‘historical accuracy ‘ or anything other than just a good, fun, enjoyable read. This book is pretty light. Pretty straightforward in its appeal of ‘big strong Scot saves at risk woman, woman falls in love with big strong Scot who doesn’t want to fall in love but does anyways...’ There are a couple obvious bad guys, and lots and lots of good guys. The secondary characters are as delightful as the main characters. You just really can’t go wrong with either of the books in this series. Though there is a relation to the previous book, this one is read just fine as a stand alone, so don’t let that deter you if you happen to get this one and not the first book.

The narrator isn’t one of my favorites, but she did a good enough job. She wasn’t very strong in the male characters voices, but it’s not a deal breaker. When men narrate we don’t expect them to do female voices, but when women narrate we always want them to excel at ALL the voices. There are some that are great at it, but it doesnt mean that those that arent are bad narrators. Theres more to narrating than just that, and other than that she was pretty good. Nice soothing voice. I would listen to her again.

Narrator PERFECTION, delicious characters

Garwood once again created outstanding characters and their banter is the best element of the book. Heather Wilds is an EXCEPTIONAL narrator and is only second to Kate Reading in my opinion. This book is not as good as The Bride, but is still great and credit worthy. If you enjoy Garwood's characters then you will like these as well. I actually liked the first half of the book much better than the last half. The first half had me laughing and crying. Then it seemed to slightly flatten out, but I still enjoyed it very much.

Incredible Narrrator

Any additional comments?

I can count on Julie Garwood to give me a good book that I can escape into. But I really like the ones set in the Highlands. There's nothing like a Highland warrior. (Hot flash!) But no matter how good the story, the narration really makes a difference. Heather Wilds doesn't just read the story, she brings it to life. I want to listen to more stories read by Heather Wilds.

Loved the narrator

If you could sum up The Wedding in three words, what would they be?

Great love story. This is the first Julie Garwood book that I couldn't quit listening too. The narrator made the book.

First half snoozer, second half amazing!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Wedding to be better than the print version?

I've not read the print version of this book. However, the audio version allows the narrator the ability to inflect emotion into the "voices" of the characters.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Wedding?

When Connor returns to the castle on horseback and snatches Brenna off the ground during full gallop, he is just realizing what she means to him.

Any additional comments?

The first half of the story set the stage for the second half, it was snow moving and made me wonder how long it would take to get through the rest of the story. But once the second half started, I actually did listen all in one sitting. It was such a "page turner" that I ended up listening to it late into the night and left me so revved up that I couldn't fall asleep right away. I got up, worked for a couple of hours, then finally falling asleep in the wee hours of the morning. I haven't had a book do that to me in a long, long time.

A Wonderful romance!

How can you not love a big, strong, handsome and challenging laird? Love those Highlanders. This love story was definitely worth the time and credit spent. I recommend it to those interested in passion, love and action, though not much.

Story so-so, narration might have improved it...

I was somewhat disappointed in this audiobook. The story was OK - a bit predictable - and although not the best romance I've ever read, it was certainly not the worst. I did start out slowly and confusingly, but got better towards the end. But the worst part was the narration.

I gave Heather Wilds two stars instead of one only because there is no denying she has a very pleasant voice. Unfortunately, it is was woefully expressionless most of the time - or maybe melancholy is a better description. She was simply reading the book out loud. There were no real character distinctions and although I could usually tell if it was a man or a woman speaking, because she did at least change her pitch for that, I certainly could not distinguish between characters of the same sex. Same tone, same volume, same speed all the time, regardless if it was an action scene, a romantic encounter, or heated argument. There WAS no heat, or passion, or amusement, or frustration, or sadness, or fear, or any other emotion expressed in her voice. The monotony of all this made it a very dull listen for me...I will not download another book narrated by HW unless she improves dramatically. I'll give her a few years and then we'll see.

Finally, which is probably more the fault of the recording team than the narrator.... no real pauses during scene changes. I found myself repeatedly rewinding to find out what was going on - not something I typically do. Very irritating.

My recommendation is to buy the book instead.

One of My Favorite Garwood Books!

Would you listen to The Wedding again? Why?

Yes. This is one of my favorite Garwood audiobooks. I really enjoyed the story and characters, and Heather Wilds brings it all together nicely.

What about Heather Wilds’s performance did you like?

She did a wonderful job with character distinction with her voice, but she did particularly well with conveying the right emotions at the right times. She really brought the story and characters to life, and I enjoyed her performance for this one.

Any additional comments?

Garwood often excels at her ability to write witty, entertaining dialogue with her characters more than her characterization and plot development, and this book does not fail on that account. The combination of this banter with likable protagonists made this story one worth listening to. I found Brenna charming and endearing with her particular outlook on life and relationships, and I enjoyed her pairing with Connor. Their contrast in ideologies and personalities made their romance compelling, and Connor's arrogant virility worked just right. If you're a fan of a good highland romance with fun dialogue, this is a book you shouldn't pass up!

WHEN YOU'RE STUCK WITH A CHAUVINIST

I typically adore Julie Garwood's highland warrior novels, The Bride, being one of them, but something went terribly wrong with this one. I mean, was this book even written by J.G.? It had some of the qualities, but definitely fell short of a fabulous highland novel penned with her magic touch.

The problem is with Connor MacAlister, the protagonist. The problem is that he had the personality, understanding of women, and sensibilities of a rock. His flat, harsh personality made the dialogue portions between him and Lady Brenna dull and boring, because he's pretty much hollow.

I was surprised that characters from the previous book, The Bride--- Laird Alec Kincaid and Jamie's relationship didn't have that much of a strong impact on him---well, if it did, that influence didn't come out till the very end of the book...which made it too long for me.

In the previous book, when Alex Kincaid would say things to Jamie, such as, "you have value, but 2nd place to my horse," well the man was just kidding and pressing Jamie's buttons. Yet, with Connor, when he conveyed where Brenna ranked on his list of priorities and things he considered valuable, well he pretty much meant it when he named his horse as first priority. There was also distasteful violence against a horse in this book and soldiers. I thought that was too much, as well.

Regarding the heroine, Brenna was flighty, but very sweet and incessantly patient with the bad luck she had in marrying Connor. She loved him even though he said harsh things to her, and didn't really treat her well. He was also dismissive and did not inspire trustworthiness, and this left Brenna vulnerable to his enemies.

The change of heart and character came about way too late for me in the book. When the change of heart and promise of true love comes about in the last scene in the book, um....nope not good enough to be considered a good read/listen.

Regarding the narrator, Heather Wilds was really good. I enjoyed her performance.
