Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Julie Garwood has captured the hearts of millions of listeners worldwide with timeless tales of love and soaring adventure. Now, returning to the enchanting world of her classic love story “The Bride,” she brings to glorious life the passion, intrigue, and rivalry of medieval Scotland....

Resigned to an arranged marriage to a highland laird she has never met, Lady Brenna journeys from England to Scotland certain she will suffer a loveless marriage. But en route to her betrothed, a rival band of Werce, painted warriors intercept her caravan and demand that she marry their leader -- the handsome, quick-tempered laird Connor MacAlister, the same man she'd repeatedly proposed to as a child while he'd been a visitor to her father's castle.

Though Brenna scarcely remembers the secret missives she'd sent to MacAlister declaring her love, she has never forgotten the tall visitor's dazzling, unexpected smile. Now older and wiser, Brenna harbors no illusions that Connor is in love with her -- indeed, after a hasty forest wedding, Connor assures her she can return home once she has borne him a son. Lady Brenna has no idea that her capture is merely the first act of vengeance against her betrothed, Connor's sworn enemy.

Determined to be happy, Brenna soon endears herself to most of the MacAlister clan, despite -- or perhaps because of -- her uncanny knack for getting into trouble. And although she comes to adore her brave, superstitious, gentle husband, she has no clue that Connor lives for the moments she whispers "I love you"...words she never meant him to hear. But, as she sets out to win the heart of the brave chieftain, a legacy of revenge ensnares Brenna in a furious clan war -- and only her faith in her gallant husband can save her....

Light Fun and Romantic Story

Most Julie Garwood books are wonderful stories and this one didn't disappoint. This book is the charming and entertaining story of Brenna and Conner that is jam packed with feisty conversations and laugh out loud funny scenes. Of course it wouldn't be a Highlander book without the bad guys who added a bit of mystery and sadness to the tale. It's a light feel good type of book that is worth a credit but because the price is reasonable you may not choose to use the credit. Either way it is worth a listen.

L.O.V.E!!!!! 💜

Oh my I just feel like home when I get to read a book that I genuinely enjoy! The only problem is that its always over before I’m ready and then I’m sad!! This book is the sequel to “The Bride.” I loved that book as much as this one. I am a huge fan of Julie Garwood and this doesn’t disappoint. I don’t listen to these books for ‘historical accuracy ‘ or anything other than just a good, fun, enjoyable read. This book is pretty light. Pretty straightforward in its appeal of ‘big strong Scot saves at risk woman, woman falls in love with big strong Scot who doesn’t want to fall in love but does anyways...’ There are a couple obvious bad guys, and lots and lots of good guys. The secondary characters are as delightful as the main characters. You just really can’t go wrong with either of the books in this series. Though there is a relation to the previous book, this one is read just fine as a stand alone, so don’t let that deter you if you happen to get this one and not the first book.

The narrator isn’t one of my favorites, but she did a good enough job. She wasn’t very strong in the male characters voices, but it’s not a deal breaker. When men narrate we don’t expect them to do female voices, but when women narrate we always want them to excel at ALL the voices. There are some that are great at it, but it doesnt mean that those that arent are bad narrators. Theres more to narrating than just that, and other than that she was pretty good. Nice soothing voice. I would listen to her again.

This book is just amazing and never boring!

I love, love, love this book! It was the very first romance novel I read about 20 years ago, when I borrowed it from my sister. It's just so much fun to read, at least for me, and I have read it many many times since then. Julie Garwood did a fantastic job! I just listened to it on audible for the first time, after several years since I last read it, and it was still just as wonderful.
I won't lie, I always find it slightly annoying that there is a cat and mouse game between hero and heroine in most romance novels that drag on FOREVER and often uncomfortably, but Julie Garwood doesn't always do this. 'The Wedding' and 'The Bride', have characters I love dearly, and their interactions make me experience all possible emotions.
As far as listening to it, I do wish that the performance had both male and female readers, but I realize men are usually not readers of this genre. This narrator, Heather Wilds, made some of the adult male characters sound like small children, when they were 'warriors', so it was kind of ridiculous. But then made some of the males have deeper voices. I was not convinced she was the right narrator for this book. But, I would still listen to it again. :)

One of the best Garwood books, loved it. I laughed out loudly on numerous occasions as the characters were very witty. Narrator did a great job.

Don't judge the first few minutes!

This is another favorite of mine from Julie Garwood. I definitely thought I would have to return the book after the first minute. The narrator's accents are horrific IN THE BEGINNING. The reviews are definitely accurate about that. However, after the prologue the narration is MUCH BETTER. She captures the character's personalities and banter perfectly and adds life to the already flawless story! Definitely buy, and ignore the performance of the prologue. 👌🏾👍🏾❤️

Some stories never grow old!!!

I can’t remember when I last read this book, it is just as wonderful as the first time. The two main protagonists learn to love while battling to maintain their strong personalities. Garwood’s heroines fight all the restrictions men of that era assume their ladies should just accept and meanwhile their men learn to love and learn.

Fantastic

Amazing book. I've read and listened to this book more times than I care to admit. Heather Wilds did a wonderful job narrating . Absolutely loved her female voices but her male voices are definitely not my favorite. Simply because the male voices are just too feminine. Needless to say that hasn't stopped me from enjoying this book many times over.
