Publisher's Summary

New York Times best-selling author Julie Garwood has captured the hearts of millions of listeners worldwide with timeless tales of love and soaring adventure. Now, returning to the enchanting world of her classic love story “The Bride,” she brings to glorious life the passion, intrigue, and rivalry of medieval Scotland....

Resigned to an arranged marriage to a highland laird she has never met, Lady Brenna journeys from England to Scotland certain she will suffer a loveless marriage. But en route to her betrothed, a rival band of Werce, painted warriors intercept her caravan and demand that she marry their leader -- the handsome, quick-tempered laird Connor MacAlister, the same man she'd repeatedly proposed to as a child while he'd been a visitor to her father's castle.

Though Brenna scarcely remembers the secret missives she'd sent to MacAlister declaring her love, she has never forgotten the tall visitor's dazzling, unexpected smile. Now older and wiser, Brenna harbors no illusions that Connor is in love with her -- indeed, after a hasty forest wedding, Connor assures her she can return home once she has borne him a son. Lady Brenna has no idea that her capture is merely the first act of vengeance against her betrothed, Connor's sworn enemy.

Determined to be happy, Brenna soon endears herself to most of the MacAlister clan, despite -- or perhaps because of -- her uncanny knack for getting into trouble. And although she comes to adore her brave, superstitious, gentle husband, she has no clue that Connor lives for the moments she whispers "I love you"...words she never meant him to hear. But, as she sets out to win the heart of the brave chieftain, a legacy of revenge ensnares Brenna in a furious clan war -- and only her faith in her gallant husband can save her....

    "Narrator PERFECTION, delicious characters"

Garwood once again created outstanding characters and their banter is the best element of the book. Heather Wilds is an EXCEPTIONAL narrator and is only second to Kate Reading in my opinion. This book is not as good as The Bride, but is still great and credit worthy. If you enjoy Garwood's characters then you will like these as well. I actually liked the first half of the book much better than the last half. The first half had me laughing and crying. Then it seemed to slightly flatten out, but I still enjoyed it very much.

    "Loved the narrator"
If you could sum up The Wedding in three words, what would they be?

Great love story. This is the first Julie Garwood book that I couldn't quit listening too. The narrator made the book.

    Any additional comments?

I can count on Julie Garwood to give me a good book that I can escape into. But I really like the ones set in the Highlands. There's nothing like a Highland warrior. (Hot flash!) But no matter how good the story, the narration really makes a difference. Heather Wilds doesn't just read the story, she brings it to life. I want to listen to more stories read by Heather Wilds.

    "Enthusiastic thumbs up!"

I enjoy this book so much that I have listened to it numerous times! I laugh out loud.... cry, sneer, complain and laugh some more! From a blue painted
groom to a forgetful wife this tale is priceless.

Heather Wilds was exceptional! Not once did I wonder who was speaking or what they were feeling... a great job!

Heat Factor? Steaming!!! At a soft full boil.

    Creditworthy? Oh yes!!!

    "Light Fun and Romantic Story"

Most Julie Garwood books are wonderful stories and this one didn't disappoint. This book is the charming and entertaining story of Brenna and Conner that is jam packed with feisty conversations and laugh out loud funny scenes. Of course it wouldn't be a Highlander book without the bad guys who added a bit of mystery and sadness to the tale. It's a light feel good type of book that is worth a credit but because the price is reasonable you may not choose to use the credit. Either way it is worth a listen.

"First half snoozer, second half amazing!"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Wedding to be better than the print version?

I've not read the print version of this book. However, the audio version allows the narrator the ability to inflect emotion into the "voices" of the characters.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Wedding?

When Connor returns to the castle on horseback and snatches Brenna off the ground during full gallop, he is just realizing what she means to him.

    Any additional comments?

The first half of the story set the stage for the second half, it was snow moving and made me wonder how long it would take to get through the rest of the story. But once the second half started, I actually did listen all in one sitting. It was such a "page turner" that I ended up listening to it late into the night and left me so revved up that I couldn't fall asleep right away. I got up, worked for a couple of hours, then finally falling asleep in the wee hours of the morning. I haven't had a book do that to me in a long, long time.

I love getting lost in a good fantasy, sci-fi, romance, or historical fiction, although I'll listen to almost anything fiction.

"One of My Favorite Garwood Books!"
Would you listen to The Wedding again? Why?

Yes. This is one of my favorite Garwood audiobooks. I really enjoyed the story and characters, and Heather Wilds brings it all together nicely.

What about Heather Wilds’s performance did you like?

She did a wonderful job with character distinction with her voice, but she did particularly well with conveying the right emotions at the right times. She really brought the story and characters to life, and I enjoyed her performance for this one.

    Any additional comments?

Garwood often excels at her ability to write witty, entertaining dialogue with her characters more than her characterization and plot development, and this book does not fail on that account. The combination of this banter with likable protagonists made this story one worth listening to. I found Brenna charming and endearing with her particular outlook on life and relationships, and I enjoyed her pairing with Connor. Their contrast in ideologies and personalities made their romance compelling, and Connor's arrogant virility worked just right. If you're a fan of a good highland romance with fun dialogue, this is a book you shouldn't pass up!

    "Good Book Bad Reader"

The story is great but the reader is horrendous. The warriors sounded like little girls. At times you can't tell which character is speaking. The original reader was a man. The remake should have e been a man as well.

I can find a book to love in any genre -- a beautifully written classic, an interesting mystery or sci-fi, a trashy romance. Bring it!

"Saved by the last two hours"

STORY (historical romance) - I bought this book ages ago before I learned I'm not a fan of historical romances, and it's languished in my library ever since. The story takes place in midieval Scotland. Brenna is English but, through a strange twist of fate, finds herself married to Connor, who is a Scottish highland laird. Connor's clan is feuding with their rivals, so basically you have a romance between a mismatched pair and a feud as the background story.

The characters are pretty good, but I wasn't crazy about any of them, nor was I wowed by the chemistry between Connor and Brenna. They begin their relationship disliking each other and bickering until their chemistry kicks in to bridge the gap between them. They have many of the typical male/female communication issues that we see in the present day, but they're compounded by the fact that Connor is a typical midieval male -- dominating and chauvinistic. The book isn't boring but it moves kind of slow. I did, however, really enjoy the last couple hours when things rocked into high gear.

PERFORMANCE - Great job distinguishing between Brenna's female voice/English accent and Connor's male voice/Scottish accent.

OVERALL - While there are battles and killing, the book isn't really violent or bloody. It's pretty "clean" as well. I don't recall any bad language, and there are only a couple short sex scenes which aren't very explicit. This is the second book in the series, but it stands alone. It is the first book I've heard in this series, and it will be the last as well. (I much prefer the massive Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon and recommend you check it out if you like highland romances).

"Julie Garwwods and Historicals equals...The Best"
Would you listen to The Wedding again? Why?

Yes! I will surely will listen to it again. Love the story and the narrator does a pretty good job her voice is easy to listen to.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Both Brenna and Connor can't go wrong with both. The go together like bacon and eggs.

What does Heather Wilds bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

When listening to a book is like having a bran new version of the book if it's done well and she does. She as a nice voice not scratchy nor gruff nor whinny (I hate whinny voices). But I wouldn't stop reading the print or e-book they all go together.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    Blue Paint and Weddings
