Publisher's Summary

Kismet Knight, a brainy Denver-based psychologist with a predictable career and a dismal track record when it comes to her personal relationships, is about to have her world rocked. Kismet’s newest patient, Midnight, longs to become a vampire, and the teenager insists that a coven of the undead hangs out at a downtown goth club. The always-rational Kismet dismisses Midnight’s claims as the delusions of an attention-starved girl, but sees an opportunity to make the modern obsession with vampires the most exciting research project of her professional life. Then Devereux, the unbelievably hot club owner, walks into her office professing that he is a vampire. Kismet finds herself uncontrollably drawn to him, but she can’t believe he is what he claims to be. Or can she?

As inexplicable events and erotic encounters pile up - as well as corpses drained of blood - Kismet is caught up in a whirlwind of passion, mystery, and danger. But this fearless heroine, who doesn’t do damsel-in-distress, is about to turn the vampire-meets-girl convention on its head in this exhilarating urban fantasy.

Interesting Concept, Doesn't Take Full Advantage

The concept of this book drew me in right away. I normally stay away from glitzy, shiny vampire romance novels and I was somehow not paying enough attention to know that was what I was getting. The premise had the potential to be amazing, perhaps even darkly funny; a shrink dealing with vampires and all the problems that accompany being undead. However, the actual "shrink" part of the book was thin and seemed like an afterthought. This was actually more of a novel about a female character that just happens to be a psychologist.

I also found the main character a little whiny and weak. Her "man troubles" (and she does have man troubles), got a little grating to me. Again, this is not my usual genre so I have no frame of reference, but I felt that the characters were at times childish and immature. If it were toned down some, it would fit right in next to the Harlequin romances.

The story was ok, it wasn't a complete waste of time even though I rolled my eyes a few times because someone was either falling into bed with someone else or thinking of it at every turn. Again, I don't mind sexual content in novels, but the novel seemed to be written for the sole purpose of including such scenes. I think it is missing the shirtless vampire on the cover. This isn't a dark, scary, or introspective novel. It's fast, when the protagonist isn't wondering who she's going to sleep with, and poppy and romantic. Not great to me, just average.

Vampire Shrink, Book 1

I commend the author's ability to capture the reader's attention. I can't wait to read the next in the series.

The plot was well-developed as were the characters. As unbelievable as the story line was, Ms. Hilburn pulled it off with apparent ease. I could easily believe that such things existed in our current world, and that being the case, where could I find my own Dev?

Great novel, Lynda Hilburn!

Porn with a decent plot

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

People who like porn

What was most disappointing about Lynda Hilburn’s story?

The plot was decent but the graphic sex was unnecessary and detracted from the story.

Would you be willing to try another one of Hillary Huber’s performances?

No.

What character would you cut from The Vampire Shrink?

Most of the men that the main character made goo goo eye's over.

Any additional comments?

The narrator was flat and had a boring tone. Yes, the character was a bit flat but the narration was too much in that direction.

hoping for more

I wa s really hoping this would be better but it just went in a direction I didn't like and I had to stop listening. It was almost a genetic version of early Anita Blake.

Great take

What made the experience of listening to The Vampire Shrink the most enjoyable?

The most enjoyable part about listening to this story was the characters moods and egos. It felt like you were there with them. Almost like a fly on the wall.

What does Hillary Huber bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I really enjoyed her voice. She capture the book perfectly.

A wildly entertaining vampire book

Would you consider the audio edition of The Vampire Shrink to be better than the print version?

Yes, because I liked the reader and she made the characters come alive.

What did you like best about this story?

It was funny, sort of scary, romantic and very entertaining. The interaction between Kismet, Devereux and Alan the FBI agent was great. I truly enjoyed the book and look forward to the other ones in the series.

What about Hillary Huber’s performance did you like?

Everything. Her interpretation of the characters was spot on.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Midnight's vampire boyfriend, Brice, showed up at Kismet's office. Devereux came to the rescue and Kismet was left knowing that vampires were real whether she liked it or not.

Any additional comments?

I have listened to both books and truly enjoyed them. I am patiently waiting. NOT. For the third Crimson Psych..

If you enjoy vampires, give this one a listen, you'll be hooked!

A fun look at vampires

I can see why Kismet (female lead) need a psychologist and boy can she get herself into trouble or maybe I should say trouble finds her. Dev (male lead) is a very mysterious charater and it will be interesting to find out more about him. The supporting cast and sub-plots help make this a good listen.

I found the writers spin on vampires interesting, funny, and refreshing. However, the narrator leaves sum to be desired. Maybe I'm just spoiled by my 3 favorite narrators who do both female and male voices so well.

Over all I found this book to be a fun one to listen to and I've already downloaded book 2.
