Publisher's summary

Courtney Banks owns a failing book store, and her relationship with her girlfriend Mia is falling apart. Courtney doesn't even think she believes in love...that is, until she meets the vampire next door.

Valeria "Lare" Máille is a gorgeous scientist working on cutting-edge genetics. She also just happens to be a vampire, and Courtney's new neighbor. Sparks fly from the very first moment Courtney and Lare meet, and their attraction is undeniable. But in a world where vampires have just "come out" of hiding, tensions between humans and vampires are running high. When Lare's co-workers begin to go missing, it looks like foul play may put Lare in danger, too.

Will Courtney and Lare have a chance at love, or is the cost of falling for a vampire too high?

The Vampire Next Door is a light-hearted paranormal romance that will take you on a journey you'll never forget.

Written by wife-and-wife authors Natalie Vivien (known for her laugh-out-loud contemporary romances) and Bridget Essex (known for her vampires and werewolves in love), The Vampire Next Door is a marriage of humor, steamy romance, and a love story that's out of this world.

Nice love story, with a twist

First time in my life that I listen to an anglophone reader doing a VERY NICE French accent. I am French. Some mistakes and the usual problem with the rendition of the French sound R but the reader does a great job: no caricature, right "foreign intonations".
Nice story about tolerance and falling in love.
Not too many "hot scenes" (I do not like them, I think being too literal makes things ridiculous), which is a plus. But a very fine way of describing a blooming love.
The "suspense" side" of the story is not bad. I like how the vampire theme stands for tolerance, but not in an over-simplistic way.
All in all, I obviously like this novel.

can you love a vampire

In this witty and twist story of how to love and not be betrayed. I find this book voiced by M. Barrett brings to life an outstanding rendition of vampires.

Maria Marquis! Vampire Romance! Yes Please!!!

5/5 stars This is one of the best Natalie Vivian/Bridget Essax novels and the narration by Maria Marquis omg her performance of Valeria is so good so sensual that it will melt you in all the right places. This audiobook is on par with Bridget Essex "Meeting Eternity Sullivan Vampires Volume 1 books 1-3" which is narrated by Lynn Devereux another Mistress of Sensuality.

Cute romantic fairy tale, if a tad simplistic

Good: Believable protagonist with a love interest that anyone who's been in the initial throes of falling in live will appreciate; bonus points for the lesbian romance being different from the eleventy-bajillion cookie cutter "hot guy supernatural" romances.

Bad: Takes a while for the actual plot to get going, and once it does the story is somewhat one dimensional and way too short. it's as though most of the creative energy was expended on the character introductions and world building and once that was done the actual plot got rushed to meet a deadline.

Ugly: The whole thing is told in present-tense. I'd normally avoid such a writing sin like the plague, but the grating nature of the narrative eventually fades into the background to be a minor annoyance.

Overall good, but not great. Don't go into this expecting Half Moon Hollow or Parasol Protectorate.

First time with an audio book.

Wow! This was a great romance. Nice twist on the reality of vampires. Loved it. I look forward to reading more from these authors.
The narrator, Marina Barrett was incredible. She enhanced the visual effects of each scene. Great voice, great French accent and great at defining each character.

Wow!

Loved it! My only complaint is that it was too-too short! Great story, great chemistry between Courtney and Lare. Marina Barrett, the narrator, did an excellent job - the French accent, wow! :D

Soothing To Hear

The storyline, characters, and narration is wonderful. Marina Barrett has the perfect voice for the characters. I love to hear her French accent as Lare. Well done! Definitely, listen to this book again.
