Publisher's summary

When a wager goes wrong....

Painfully shy Jane Huxley is the furthest thing from a diamond of the first water. Bookish, bespectacled, and, well, plain, she never expected to befriend a dissolute charmer like Colin Lacey, much less agree to help him retrieve a lost family heirloom. Fortunately, he is nothing like his cold, rigid older brother. Unfortunately, he is not above deception if it means winning a wager. And that puts Jane in a most precarious position.

A formidable duke will marry a plain Jane....

For Harrison Lacey, the Duke of Blackmore, protecting his family honor is not a choice, it is a necessity. So, when his cad of a brother humiliates the unwitting Lady Jane, Harrison must make it right, even if it means marrying the chit himself.

And a marriage of convenience will become so much more....

Her reputation hanging by a thread, Jane agrees to wed the arrogant Duke of Blackmore, although she's convinced it will result in frostbite. Only after lingering glances lead to devastating kisses does she begin to suspect the truth: Perhaps - just perhaps - her duke is not as cold as he appears.

Contains mature themes.

Great Book/Horrible narrator

The story was wonderful. The development took some time and there are some great scenes ( with the French chef).
The hero was a little unapproachable in the beginning, but he comes around. The heroine was funny and I felft a lot of sympathy for her situation.
The narrator was a horror show. I can't get over the terrible accent. She thinks changing "a" to "o" makes it a British accent. That's just stupid. In future I would strongly recommend someone with the correct accent to read a regency England novel. Everytime She read the word "back" , but it came out as "bock", I could not figure out what she was saying. This is one narrator that should stick to novels set in America! The bad reading took a little away from the story and kept disrupting my enjoyment.

A little over dramatic

I think the narrator made the story feel over dramatized. The dialogue and characters seemed a little cheesy. Not certain if it was the story or the narrator but pretty sure it was the narrator. In addition, I am pretty sure the English accent isn’t genuine. Yikes! It made the listen less enjoyable for me. The book certainly deserves the “sizzling” rating for the sex and passion moments.

. . . . . the Romance, Passion and Drama continues

The second book in this series does not disappoint. It appears the narrator has gotten her flow together, and did a good job with the reading of this story. I could not put this one down. Book 1 draws you into the story, the passion, and the steamy hot sex scenes this Author can write. I was so glad Book 2 was waiting to be read. The unlikely pairing of Harrison and Jane will surprise you, and I was glad they did. If you enjoyed Book 1, then Book 2 will take things to another level. While Harrison (the DUKE) takes his responsibilities to Family and Title seriously, Jane (PLAIN) shows what Friendship and Love is all about. There appears to be enough interesting characters in these books to fill the other books in this series, and I can not wait to start Book 3 and to see where they go from here.

Human frailty of love

What a delightful book. It kept me aware of the frailty and effort needed in love. Very well written, and very very well narrated. I highly recommend.

WOW I LOVED THIS STORY!!!

I absolutely Loved Harrison the 8th Duke of Blackmore and Plain Round Jane Huxley the daughter of the Earl of Berne.

After being duped by Lord Colin Lacey. Younger brother to Harrison the Duke. Colin pretending to befriend our plain bookish and round Jane. Ask her to steal back a necklace that Lord Milton stole from him. Its his deceased mothers necklace. Jane believing that Colin was truly a friend which she only has one other friend. She agrees to help him. But Colin has arranged for her to be caught by a group of Lords. This leads to Janes Ruin in the Ton.

Harrison finds out the deplorable thing Colin has done to Jane and the disgrace he has bought upon the Berne family which were old and loyal family friend. Harrison cuts Colin off and puts him out of there home. Harrison then goes and purposes marriage to Jane as a way of stopping the gossip and getting her excepted back into the Ton. After all she will be married to a very rich and powerful Duke. One of the oldest and wealthiest Peers in all of England.

Jane always thought Harrison Cold and Ridget. In the past they had gotten off to a bad start in bk.1 The Madness of Viscount Atherbourne. Now she is married to him and passion ignites. This two burn up the sheets but neither feels confident in themselves. Jane knows she if plain and tht she is overweight, short and bookish. Harrison feels he must always be a stalwart of proper behavior and Dukes did not lust after there wives. This causes the couple to struggle with everyday married life. But as the relationship continues to grow Harrison and Jane become the perfect H/H in the story.

I couldn't stop listening on audible and reading at times on my kindle. I just loved the world building the author created. I felt like I was having dinner with them or that I could see in my minds eye the landscape, the interior of the home and the clothing the characters were wearing. This was indeed a very well written story!! I love this couple!!

Curvey girls are just as loveable and sexy!

Like the first book this one starts with scandal too, but of a different, more sad kind. But her rescue turns out just as sweet and sexy ;-) as the first book. They take a bit more time to get to know and understand each other but that's what I like about this author, each one of her characters definitely have their own identity. AUDIBLE please get the rest of this series, I actually don't write reviews often at all, but I am with these hoping to listen to the rest of this series!!!

The heart is a lonely hunter.

This book is a bumpy ride. The Duke has a stiff harsh manner that goes hand in glove with a strict code of conduct.
While Jane is a shy young woman that loves tasty treats and good romances.
Jane's cautiously guards her heart. She is afraid that she might not find someone to love her like her father loves her mother.
What a dilemma!
Although the Duke's brother almost destroyed Jane's reputation as good girl. The Duke was interested in Jane before the eager happened.
He did not have to marry her. He could have avoided the alter with ease.
Jane was the only female who saw him as the person and stood up to his fury.
The heart can see what it needs and will work at taking it for it's own.
Well done! Excellent story and character building. Jane was raised to handle people with attitude and look under their shell.
