Publisher's Summary

A new adult story of Love. Sex. Addiction. Blackmail. And power...

Some say love can be an addiction. Others say it's the thing that makes life worth living. Let me tell you everything I know about love...Love isn't patient, love isn't kind. Love is a game, a chase. A thrill. Love is wild and war-like, and every man and woman must fight for themselves. At least that's how it was for me. A high-priced virgin call girl by the time I started college, I was addicted to love and to sex. Even though I've never had either. I controlled love, played it, and held the world in the palm of my hands. Then I fell down from those highs, and I'm being blackmailed for all my mistakes, forced to keep secrets from everyone, except the only guy I don't regret.

Trey...

With all the other women, I knew what they were. They were temporary. They were pills, they were bottles, they took away all the pain, and numbed the awful memories that wore down my ragged, wasted heart. Until I met Harley. She's the only girl I ever missed when she walked away. But now she's back in my life, every day, and there are no guarantees for us, especially since I don't know how to tell her my secrets. What happened to my family. All I know is she's the closest I've ever come to something real, and I want to feel every second of it.

How can you love with no regrets when regret is all you know?

Interesting plot...melodramatic characters

I thought that the plot of this book was unique (at least relatively) which was the reason that I continued listening until the end, There were definitely some nice twists and turns which kept me interested at times. That being said the characters and writing style were WAY too melodramatic for me and I never really picked up on the chemistry between the two main characters. I won't be reading or listening to the sequel, but I also liked it enough that I won't return it. I did enjoy the narration, though. I thought that Erin did a nice job of giving each character his/her own voice. Listeners who enjoy lengthy passages describing exaggerated feelings and LOTS of angst might enjoy this but it just wasn't for me.

A RAW & RIVETING JOURNEY OF ADDICTION & LOVE

I love all of Lauren Blakey's books but she really outdid herself with this Duet which tells the story of two damaged young adults who battle against their sex addiction, their disfunctional families, their haunting tragic memories, the temptations of a likeable pimp, secrets, blackmail and loss. But, as Trey and Harley's relationship goes from a close solid friendship to soul mates, the one thing that becomes clearer and clearer is the deep undying love they have for each other.. a love that kept their demons away and kept them off the path that would lead them to emotional disaster.

This listen was all consuming as 19 yr old College Student Harley and 20 yr old Tattoo Artist and fellow College Student Trey meet for the second time at SLAA (Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous). Their lives are spiralling out of control.. Harley is a teenage virgin call girl who loves the control and thrill she gets when she transforms herself into Layla and Trey's heartbreaking past made him a teenage manwhore servicing all the neglected needy trophy wives in the apartment building he grew up in. They both desperately want to change their circumstances so go to SLAA hoping to stop their toxic sex addictions. Their strong attraction to each other is instant but risky as they must avoid triggers so become platonic friends only. But as time passes they become closer, they give in to their sexual attraction, they face their fears, they support one another, they find inner strengths and become inseparable lovers. And, when unforeseen twists, temptations and emotional hurdles threaten they have each other to lean on. New challenges are ahead and new horizons appear for these loveable characters and hope begins to blossom for a now 21 yr old Harley and 22 yr old Trey.

L.B. shows her outstanding writing abilities in these two books detailing an intense, deep and emotional love story between two haunted young adults who find their soul-mate and face their demons together, overcome difficulties together, forge new beginnings together.. and eventually get their beautiful HEA ending together. Erin Mallon's dual POV narration was absolutely perfect and her male voice was excellent.

Worth a credit? Yes for each of the books - it was a unique storyline, an enjoyable listen and an unforgettable Duet.

Not the usual

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I do not know

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I like Lauren Blakely as an author and have listened to many of her books. This one just left me cold. I did not even finish it. There was no story and I felt it was not worth my time.

Any additional comments?

Too bad Lauren had to take this turn, it was not a compliment to her writing.

Different kind of character background

When I first started listening to this book, I was puzzled by Harley's addiction. There are all kinds of addictions, I guess there is a sex and love one too. Very interesting. The relationship between Trey and Harley is interesting as well. I enjoyed the story that Lauren Blakely tells and the way Erin Mallon tells it. At first it seemed silly, but when you look at their ages and their backgrounds, I guess it certainly is possible for such addictions. Love Lauren Blakely's story telling.
