Publisher's summary

In the next book in Molly Harper's Half Moon Hollow paranormal romance series, Libby (a widow turned vampire) struggles with her transition and finds out it sucks to be the only vampire member of the PTA.....

Widow Libby Stratton arranged to be turned into a vampire after she was diagnosed with late-stage cancer. It wasn't the best idea she'd ever had, but she was desperate - she wasn't about to leave her seven-year-old son to be raised by her rigid, overbearing in-laws. On top of post-turning transition issues, like being ignored at PTA meetings and other mothers rejecting her son's invitations for sleepovers, Libby must deal with her father-in-law's attempts to declare her an unfit mother, her growing feelings for Wade - a tattooed redneck single dad she met while hiding in a closet at Back to School Night - and the return of her sire, who hasn't stopped thinking about brave, snarky Libby since he turned her. With the help of her new vampire circle, Libby negotiates this unfamiliar quagmire of legal troubles, parental duties, relationships, and, as always in Harper's distinct, comedic novels, "characters you can't help but fall in love with" (RT Book Reviews).

Libby Stratton, welcome to the series

I admit that at first I was hesitant to listen to another Half Moon Hollow audiobook featuring a new main character. I had gotten so familiar with Iris and her sister that I wasn't sure I would really get into this book. I sure was wrong. This book was fun and romantic and I welcome more stories about Libby, Wayne, and the gang.

Very good addition to the series :)

4 stars

This was a very good story. I liked Libby and Wade very much. There was a bit of a love triangle because Libby's sire, Finn, wanted to engage in a relationship with her as well but it seemed pretty evident from the beginning that Wade would be the main man in her life.

Libby is a single mother after losing her husband to a car accident 2 years before. She wasn't exactly happy in her marriage but got a son, Danny, out of it that she loves a lot so she was content. Unfortunately, Libby was diagnosed with a terminal case of cancer and she was unwilling to die on him so she decided that vampirism was her best bet to stick around so she can raise Danny.

Wade is a mechanic that is also a single father. He was involved with a woman that got pregnant, decided to keep the baby but once she gave birth, she decided she wasn't so interested in being a mother so she left the baby for Wade. Wade loves his son and does his best to be a good dad.

Libby wanted to become a Vampire in order to stay around to raise Danny but she didn't know any Vampires so she put a Craig's list add out, looking for a Vampire that would transform her in exchange for payment. She arranged for Danny to stay with his grandparents for a visit while she got changed but was surprised that when she rose, she was confronted with Jane and Dick instead of her sire. A Vampire turning someone for money is considered a no-no by the Vampire council and so as the council's representatives, Jane and Dick had to come out to take control of the situation. They told Libby's sire (Finn) that he wasn't to have contact with Libby and told her that they would be her mentors and make sure she controlled the blood lust so as not to be a danger to Danny or anyone else. Libby is a little freaked by the Vampire council getting involved but soon comes to trust and even like both Jane and Dick. This ends up being a good thing because Jane and friends end up being a helpful support system for Libby when most of her human friends and acquaintances pretty much turn on her after they find out she's been turned into a Vampire.

Libby tries to keep her transformation quiet but soon it gets out and her in-laws decide that Danny isn't safe with her and begin suing for full custody of him. Libby is determined to fight this and Jane and the resources of the Vampire council help greatly with this, providing legal counsel as well as a babysitter to watch Danny during daytime hours. Libby is determined to be a good mom and so she still volunteers for PTA activities but has some issues with leader of the PTA who's very prejudiced against Vampires (and anyone else who she doesn't like). During some of these school activities, Libby and Wade meet. Their initial meeting isn't great and their first few encounters are more combative than friendly. Soon however, their attraction surfaces and they begin to realize that they have a lot in common and actually like each other. This is a good thing too since Danny's BFF ends up being Wade's son. While Libby is trying to get settled into her new life and all that, Finn decides to go against Jane's decree not to see Libby and starts to try to woo her as well. Finn is a bit on the shady side though so although Libby is attracted to him, she has sense enough not to get deeply involved with him. There are a number of other issues that arise during the story that have to be handled but things do end nicely with everyone happy (except maybe Finn) and Libby and Wade heading towards a HEA together.

This was a very enjoyable story. I really liked both Libby and Wade. Finn...not so much since his shadiness was apparent right off the bat (even if he didn't end up being a true bad guy). My one complaint is that with so much going on, it seemed like the romance between Libby and Wade was kind of on the back burner and seemed a little rushed towards the end. I believed they were together in the end but would have liked a little more substance in that area. Regardless of that, the story was very good and fun to read and kept me engaged throughout. I'd recommend this story (and the series). :)

One of my favorite books from half moon hollow

This series has been hit or miss for me. Some of the books have been great, and others felt like they missed the mark. This book was full of likable characters and was probably my favorite so far. If you didn’t like the last book (rebound vampire) I would suggest still giving this one a try.

One of my favorite Hollow stories

I really enjoyed this book. Of course Amanda Ronconi knocked it out of the park as usual, and the characters were also very easy to relate to and likable. As a mom myself, I could put myself in Libby's shoes and feel her pain and joy. And, as always, I enjoy the rest of the wacky characters that live in Half Moon Hollow!
