Publisher's summary

The Lords of the Underworld return in this enthralling tale of an immortal warrior determined to win and the beautiful seductress he can’t resist.

Possessed by the demon of Defeat, Strider cannot lose a challenge without suffering unimaginable pain. For him, nothing stands in the way of victory. Until Kaia, an enchanting Harpy, tempts him to the razor’s edge of surrender.

Known among her people as The Disappointment, Kaia must bring home the gold in the Harpy Games or die. Strider is a distraction she can’t afford, because he has an agenda of his own - steal first prize, an ancient godly artifact, before the winner can be named. But as the competition heats up, only one prize will matter - the love neither had thought possible.

You're kidding me

The combined IQ of all the characters in this book is way below room temp. The dialogue makes me think of some adolescent reality show.
AND worst of all, the sex was tepid!!! GOOD GRIEF! If I struggle through one long teenage mindset, at least make it worth my time!

I want a Strider of my own!

Ms. Showalter has truly delivered a winner by injecting this novel with the perfect amount of action, humor, romance, sensuality (hot) and suspense to bring us in my opinion one the best books in the series. This installment has made it to my top favorites alongside the Darkest Kiss, and the Darkest Whisper. You won???t be disappointed; this addition has all it takes to keep you glued to the book from beginning to end.
I love it when the harpies come out and play!
Great Job Ms. Showalter!!!

Wow! Once again Max Bellmore is fantastic, once more he???s staying true-to form with these characters, no over the top theatrics, but just a genuine way to convey all this novel had to offer; the humor, suspense, and..???. Well ???. The sensuality of course, it couldn???t have been brought better to life than with the bass tone or should I say Bose tone (yea! He???s that good) of Mr. Bellmore.

STRIDER IS A BIG SOFTY!! LOL

Where does The Darkest Surrender rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It was a good story, this is a great series!

What other book might you compare The Darkest Surrender to and why?

Well its PNR....there are lots of them!

What does Max Bellmore bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Max has been great this whole series so far!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes!

Any additional comments?

I like Strider and Kaia's story, he really didn't make it easy for her...but it all turned out the way it should. Kaia really only wanted to be loved and wanted...to be recognized as a skilled fighter and forgiven for her past mistakes...she knew she had her sisters love, but she wanted her mothers and her peoples forgiveness...she made a huge mistake when she was young..it had been centuries and people still wanted her to suffer...Harpies are cruel and vicious!!! But she sure showed them, and got the respect finally that she deserved!

Good Story!!

Never anger a Harpy

What did you like about this audiobook?

The byplay between Strider and Kaia was wonderful. The contrasted between confidence and doubt in both main charaters was a good mix. No sappy love or weak women in this story. This book was about strength both phyiscal and emotional

How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?

Harpy and Pheniox myths are not used often in stories. I like the original storyline.

Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?

Gena is really good at making you care about the characters both the good and bad. You find yourself wanting to understand the underline cause of why the characters behave they way they do.

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

I hate hearing him swallow his spit ...... Not attractive when directly in your ear. It is like listening to someone eating cereal. YUCK!!!

Do you have any additional comments?

I am glad the series is back on track.

Awesome!

One of the best in the series yet. Max Bellmore's performance is amazing. The story line was great. It wasn't overly sexual. It actually has an excellent plot with great subplots leading into the next books. I don't think I will ever get enough of the Lords. Hello movie exects! This series would be a great movie!

You'll be defeated if you don't read this book.

Another great one in the series. This one is up there with some of my other favorites; Darkest Kiss and Darkest Whisper. I'm a little weary of the next one, due to the hype the series has been leading up to it. I'm sure it will be good. Of course this series needs to be read in order (1. Darkest Night) since it has arcing of characters in the series.

I Dare you to read this book

I am really enjoying this series and I have Gena Showalter to blame for getting me into reading romance novels. These books are so creative!

Before you read it, I would highly recommend reading all the books that come before (even the one about Kia's sister Bianca which may not be on audio). There's so much building up to this book that anyone coming to this series for the first time will not have as much fun as those who have seen the Lords and harpies in action before.

I love Max Bellmore's performance. As a fan of history I love all the various references and weavings through Greek myth so the story is awesome. 4.5 stars
