Publisher's summary

From New York Times best-selling author Mariah Stewart comes a new chapter in her celebrated Chesapeake Diaries series, featuring her signature "rich characterization, charming setting, and a romance you'll never forget" (Robyn Carr, New York Times best-selling author).

Architect Cassidy Logan has sworn off good-looking adventurers. Newly divorced, she's focused on building ecologically friendly, historically accurate homes on the Chesapeake Bay for her father's construction company. Traveling to Cannonball Island - where there has been no new construction in nearly 100 years - Cass is sensitive to the heritage of the island and has come up with plans so perfect she's determined to buy a home for herself. Even the fact that Owen Parker - a local whom she dismisses as a lightweight and a player - seems to be everywhere isn't enough to deter her from building her dream house.

Owen Parker is and always has been sinfully handsome and wickedly clever, a magnet for mischief as well as girls. He's a rolling stone, going and doing whatever appeals to him, from flying a mail plane in Alaska to working on a cattle ranch in Australia and a shrimp boat in Louisiana and surfing and diving in Costa Rica. When an old friend offers him a job salvaging a sunken ship on the Chesapeake Bay, Owen gladly accepts. Something's been telling him it's time to head home to Cannonball Island, and a job is as good an excuse as any. And he's totally smitten by the pretty architect on the scene, but it seems he's finally met a woman who's immune to his charms. Sooner or later, Owen will have to face the reason why he always runs, because this time, leaving just might be harder than staying.

Very disappointed

I have listened to every book in this series
and was so anxious for this one. What a disappointment! The story and writing are wonderful , just what I expected. The narration is awful, the voice of the narrator is so annoying. She should stay away from trying to do different voices.
I guess that I should have bought the printed
Version.

The narrator missed it.

I'm not fond of leaving negative comments, especially since I adore this series, but when Grace dictates her diary entries, she should not sound like she's in her 20s/30s. Also, the Cannonball Island people should not sound Scottish. The narrator changed the whole feel of the book.

Why change narrator?

After listening to the same narrator for the first 10 books, why change the narrator in the 11th? I had to force myself to finish this book.

Change of narrator has ruined the series.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

The voice of the narrator is not enjoyable to listen to. I couldn't even finish the book. To be fair, maybe if you started with this book, it might be okay; however, when you have the voices of the characters over 10 books established, switching just makes seem as though it isn't part of the series. Very disappointed.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I have several new ones in my library, so don't know. I drive about 2 1/2 a day, so I listen quite a bit.

What didn’t you like about Joy Osmanski’s performance?

Her voice is too on the edge of shrill for my taste.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I don't know, I could listen more than a couple of chapters.

Ugh the narrator.

This narrator should have listened to the first 10 books to get a clue for the voices. The accents and voices were so awkward and difficult to listen to.

What a disappointment:-/

I have waited for this book for sooo long... I never preorder. But I did because I love this series. So much. I have read every one of the books in the series (twice, and some 3 times. I feel like I know each person in St. Dennis. I love Grace Sinclair. I know how she sounds. From Driftwood Point. I was getting to know the new folks in Cannonball island. So imagine my shock and disappointment when their Voices sounded TOTALLY DIFFERENT!
Please get Xe Sands to narrate the book. I am sure this is a lovely story because in this series, Mariah Stewart has gotten it right every time. But the narration was so terrible I could not finish it. In fact I am about to ask for a refund of my credit.
Get Xe Sands to re-read it

Great story, wrong narrator

The other Chesapeake Diaries were all narrated by Xe Sands. This book is narrated by Joy Osmanski. With the characters having a different voice the story, a good one, was tarnished. I want the old voices back! Ruby used to be a fabulous octogenarian, now she sounds like an idiot!

Good story,awful narration

I have enjoyed the Chesapeake Diaries series. However,I sorely missed the excellent narration of Xe Sands. Joy Osmanski could read well, but didn’t even come close to lending the right tone or accents of the characters, especially Ruby and Grace. The story was as good as previous in series, but the poor narration took away from the books’s enjoyment. I’m looking forward to the release of book 12,,but unfortunately it is to have the same narrator.👎

Hate the new natrriator

I had to stop listening because I had no idea who was speaking. I've bought the entire series & loved it until this book. I will return because of the narriator

Performance

I very much disliked the narrator of this book. It was very difficult and confusing to discern the characters. I have recently listened to the entire series but I may choose to read (kindle) instead of listen to any more books in the series if this narrator continues to be the narrator choice for this series. Please bring back Xe Sand. I have never written a review before but I thought is was important to speak my mind. Judy Desmarteau
