Publisher's Summary

I loved him at 15. I thought we'd stand the test of time. He was my forever but maybe I fell too fast or loved him too much. Maybe I came on too strong or maybe I did something wrong. He still left. Turned his back on me without a word. I never thought I'd see him again and to be honest, I didn't want to. I began to hate him even though he would never know it. But then, I did see him again and with him came the secrets that would forever change all of our lives.

She was only a recurring dream in my foggy subconscious. A voice. A face. We weren't supposed to dream. We weren't supposed to remember. They said it was impossible and the before would never come into the now. None of the others remember, at least not that I know of. What I do know is that she was my everything, my every waking breath. Now that I've found her I will not be losing her a second time. She will be mine again, no matter what the cost.

Ages 18+ due to language and sexual content.

"GENUINELY UNIQUE TWIST FOR A FANTASY WORLD"
    Any additional comments?

I was provided this audiobook through Audiobook Boom at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review.

I love Gary Furlong and he didn't disappoint. First time listen to Aundrea Mitchell and she was very good. Narration fit perfectly for the characters.

Although there wasn't a lot of explanation or preparation for the types of beings (angry, clueless Angels, Ascendants, Dominating Archs, Human Fallen, Evil Fallen), there was enough to understand their worth and position in the plot's hierarchy. Obviously the Ascended are important as they hold some power from both Angels and Fallen. There weren't enough "Holy Crap" moments because no way could I have learned about or witnessed what Laney was becoming without some serious mental and verbal adjustments. And the the plot progressed at one speed... fast. No ups and downs of revelations and reflections. Not sure if I'm getting my thoughts across, BUT... I really did love the story. I hope the next in the series slows down a pace and fills in some quieter moments, allowing me to know the characters better.

The writing complexity wasn't very extensive; like high school level verses a deeper mature level. So it was fun, not haunting. There was minimal hot-dang sexual content, but frequent mentions of how hard Kass was. The series needs to either "up the ante" or cash-out and choose the YA genre.

But again... for all the little "iffy's" I've mentioned, I really liked the freshness of the fantasy world and it's characters and plot. So I'm looking forward to the next in the series.

Two thumbs pointing up, but not wagging them yet.

    "What's Next?!"

This book is "sitting on the edge of your seat" good! The back and forth banter between Laney and Kass was great. While I enjoyed the narration from Gary Furlong, I wasn't in love with the narration of Aundrea Mitchell. Her narration of the story didn't take away from the plot, but it wasn't my favorite aspect of the book. I can't wait to see what happens next!

"A must listen if you like angel stories"

I love angel books and this one didn't disappoint. I really liked the world building the author did in this story with Ascents, Angels and Archs. I really liked Gary Furlong in this book. He did a great job. Aundrea Mitchell did ok too but needs some work on her male voices. I wish the rest of the series was available on audio because I really want to know what happens next!

    "Good Story"
Would you listen to The Ascension of Laney again? Why?

No, I would not. This was an ok book but I would not go back and listen to it again.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Ascension of Laney?

Each time they tried to figure out how to help Laney ascend by having her kill someone. They did not want to hurt lots of people, just one so she could do what was needed before she lost her life. You need to listen to the story to understand this.

Have you listened to any of Aundrea Mitchell and Gary Furlong ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, and this one was about as good.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    Not really.

    Any additional comments?

I got this book via audiobook boom.

    "Great YA Paranormal Romance"

This was a very entertaining story. I was totally sucked in and found it hard to put it down! I listen to it pretty much in one sitting. I just paused a few times to answered some of my kids questions. I really enjoy YA Paranormal Romance. The story was fresh and new. A unique take on Angels and Fallen (demons).

The narration was great and brought the story to life. They did a great job. I also like the dual POV. It is always nice to know how both main characters are feeling.

The characters were well developed and I felt like I was present during the story. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series. I like the author writing style and creativity.

    "I really enjoyed this story"
What did you like best about this story?

I was voluntarily provided a copy of this audio book by the author/narrator/or publisher from Audiobook Boom.

This was a really interesting and great start to a series. I really enjoyed this book from beginning to end. It kept me intrigued and wanting to know more. I will say it may have moved just a tiny bit slow and I wish the author would have explained the Fallen, Ascension, and the angels a bit better, I still get the gist of what's going on. Also I thought this was a YA book, but due to some language context and detailed sex scenes and suggestions it feels more like a new adult PNR. I did not have a problem with this at all and found that I liked its more mature content. The characters are in college after all.

I really liked Cass and Miguel. They were great characters that were dealing with their own issues that came with being an angel. This only added to the story and made it more than just a PNR. I felt that Laney's character was a bit immature and insecure, I found that I still really liked her. She handled being an ascent really well and came into her powers in a great way. It was rushed or a miraculous control of her powers after training for like a day.

I am very interested to see where this story will go and seeing more of Laney, Cass, and hopefully Miguel. I will definitely be reading the next book.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I really liked Gary Furlong. I loved whenever he did the narration. He was seriously great. I did not like Aundrea Mitchell. She made Laney sound like a teenager even though that was how she acted at times. I didn't like the way her voice rose at the beginning and end of sentences. It felt more like she was reading aloud to an audience than me actually listening to the character.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not especially, but I finished it in one day.

"Really good start to a series"
    Any additional comments?

    3.5 stars

Really good start to a series. This was a creative, unusual and interesting take on Angels. An intriguing and semi-complex world the author has created with a nice twist to the Angel and Fallen Angel (Demon) sides of the eternal war being waged.

It was a bit confusing in the beginning to figure out some of the rules of this new world. The Angels and Fallen Angel's in this story are a bit different. Things are not what they seem in this world of Angel's. Their hierarchy, how they become Angel's, which side of the conflict they will be on after they ascend. Are all Fallen Angels evil? There are still a lot of questions surrounding this new world.

This is borderline New Adult/Young Adult story it kind of straddles both at times. The writing feels more like a YA story, but it does have some more mature situations like a NA story. It does have frequent mentions/descriptions of how Kass's body reacts to being in Laney's presence being constantly "hard". There are a couple of steamy scenes as well.

Told through dual POV's between Laney and Kass. The story does end in a cliffhanger. I'm looking forward to the next book and seeing how the story unfolds.

When two souls are connected not even the Angels can tear them apart. Even ascending could not completely erase Laney from Kass's memory for long.

Kass and Miguel have been sent to assist Laney during her Ascent. Ascent's can manipulate the elements and both sides want them. Laney has never forgotten Kass and his unusual, abrupt and devastating disappearance from her life. Although he shouldn't be able to Kass does have some fleeting memories of his past life. When he and Miguel arrive for their mission to help Laney through her ascent his memories of Laney and their past return. This puts him in a very dangerous situation.

Aundrea Mitchell did a good job and Gary Furlong did a great job with the narration. This isn't the first time I have listened to a book they narrated together. They both have nice voices. Easy to listen to for long periods of time. Clearly spoken. Good character voices. Aundrea still needs a little work on her male character voices. She also tends to put emphasis on certain words that shouldn't be emphasized and it throws off the flow of the story at times. Gary's narration for his parts of the story was great. His narration is delivered at a smooth even pace and flows nicely. I really like the dual narration, but it would have been even more enjoyable if Aundrea had done all the female parts and Gary had done all the male parts.

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator or publisher.

    "Good Paranormal Romance"
    Any additional comments?

The Ascension of Laney was an enjoyable and entertaining YA paranormal romance. I liked the dual POV and the narration was very good overall. This is the first book in the Ascent Series but could easily be listened to as a standalone. A good start to an interesting series, I would recommend this.

I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator. This review is my honest opinion.
