What Am I Missing?

I'm standing on my own with a low rating. I've read the other reviews and feel like I read a different book. Yes, I agree it's romantic suspense but that's where we diverge. The story felt as if written by an amateur, certainly not read by an unbiased beta reader or content editor. There's just something missing.
