Publisher's summary

Gunship pilot Captain Candace Bradford has worked long and hard to earn her rank and position within the male-dominated world of Air Force Special Operations. She's not about to let anything or anyone jeopardize that, let alone one sinfully tempting man who seems determined to cause her nothing but trouble. Even if she's starting to fall for him.

As an elite Combat Controller, Staff Sergeant Ryan Wentworth is used to overcoming adversity in order to complete a mission. Breaking through Candace's prickly exterior and into her heart is a challenge he can't let go. But just when he's started to gain her trust, they're thrown together in the field facing an overwhelming enemy force.

Candace and Ryan find themselves on the run, searching the skies for an emergency extraction. But one dangerous enemy has an agenda in mind and he'll use whatever means necessary to achieve it, including using American forces to do his dirty work.

Don't miss Deadly Descent, also by Kaylea Cross.

Just okay

Predictable. A good storyline. This is a no- brainer romance novel with military action as a backdrop. After 1 roll in the hay they are madly in love...really?

Wowza! Strong female + Hot alpha male

What did you love best about Tactical Strike?

Candace is a strong female lead (a must for me). She's a pilot and a captain in the middle of a war zone...not a delicate flower. Ryan's determination to push through Candace's walls. His calm under pressure and never ending ability to overcome any objections. I heart Ryan!

Have you listened to any of Phil Kane’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

First time listening to Phil Kane's voice - Oh baby...deep, masculine and gravelly right when it needs to be. Well paced. With such a manly voice, the female characters don't sound too feminine but I think he found the right pitch for his voice without sounding whiny as some male narrators do.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Ah yeah I wanted to, but it ended up taking a few sittings. This isn't a book to listen to in short sittings - you're going to want to block out some time in the calendar. Then leave extra time at the end to catch you're breath and day dream about Ryan.

Any additional comments?

Read Deadly Descent first (I didn't and wish I had), this is part of a series and this is book 2. But I haven't seen Deadly Descent on audio, I'm reading that on eBook now and it's just as good as this one. Also, there's a fair amount of military jargon - I found that hard to follow at first, lots of acronyms and all. Although now I feel like I could walk into a military base and be all, 'I got this' and fly a gunship outta there.

Very good narration

This narration is very good. The story is good but war is beyond difficult and that made this story too hard for me to enjoy in many ways.

Balanced with action and romance

An overall positive story that takes place on a military base in Afghanistan where two Air Force troops meet. The romance thread is predictable, but the setting and action scenes keep the story interesting, making this book slightly above average. There are only two bedroom scenes, but both are hot.

The reader does a satisfactory job, but at times uses the wrong voice for a character and occasionally sounds stiff. Overall, his performance doesn't derail the book.

War romance

Strong characters. Well written. Great narrator. It reads authentically—the foreign base, the action, the different branches of the military.

Not what I was expecting

I felt like the heroine was wimpy, unable to stand firm in her own point of view. I got the impression that the hero was going to do what he wanted regardless of what she wanted, even if the situation turned coercive. This book may be a good fit for erotica fans, but it wasn't what I wanted.

The narrator speaks too slowly, I had to increase the speed to 1.25 just to avoid going crazy.
