Book two in the Bad Behavior series

Detective Darren Corliss is hanging by a thread. In between recovering from a near-fatal wound and returning to work at a hostile precinct, he’s struggling to help care for his ailing brother. His partner and boyfriend, Detective Andreas Ruffner, wants to help, but doesn’t know how. And with his own family crises brewing, Andreas is spread almost as thin as Darren.

For cops, though, life takes a backseat to the job. When a stack of unsolved homicides drops into their laps, Andreas and Darren think they’re unrelated cold cases. But when a connection surfaces, they find themselves on the tail of a prolific serial killer who’s about to strike again.

Except they’ve got nothing. No leads. No suspects. Just a pile of circumstantial evidence and a whole lot of hunches. Time is running out to stop the next murder - and to pull themselves back from their breaking points.

What a ride!

Suspicious Behavior picks up a few weeks after Risky Behavior and while it probably can be read as a standalone, you'd miss out on a ton of backstory, along with a great book.

Detectives Darren and Andreas are in the hot seat after the mess with the mayor and the corrupt cops. They are ostracised and harassed by their colleagues as "cops don't rat out cops" - even the dirty ones. Trying to get out of the line of fire, they pick up some cold cases from another precinct. Only soon they realise that the cases might not be as cold as they thought, and now it's a race against the clock to find - and stop - the killer before he kills again.

As if this wasn't enough they are both dealing with some pretty heavy family issues on top of that. Darren's brother is getting a lot worse and it's taking it's toll on the whole family. I loved - and hated - listening to when Darren visited with Asher. It humanised them but at the same time it was heartbreaking. You could feel the love the bothers shared, the closeness, and watching it fade was far from easy.

On the other end of the line there is Andreas and his family. His daughter Erin is interning with IA and catches some of the gossip about Andreas that's going around the precinct. Confrontations with family - especially children - are never easy, but it was handled great in this book. No unnecessary drama, but still the hurt that accompanied Andreas's revelations.

I love Andreas and Darren together. They fit and make sense. They balance each other. Neither they nor their relationship is perfect, but that's what makes it work in my eyes. It's a work in progress. You feel the connection between them and at times you wish you could stop time for them to have a chance to just breathe and hatch up for a second before starting in on the hunt or family issues again.

The thing that I really love about this series is that it's real. I believe in the characters because they are genuine, human, They make mistakes, they fight, love and hurt just like anyone else. No one is perfect. It's not this picture perfect imaginary world and characters. They are rough around the edges and I couldn't be happier about it.

Michael Ferraiuolo did a wonderful job narrating this book. I was captivated and drawn in from the get go and was hooked right to the very end. He added a lot of feeling to his narration and brought the book to life, immersed you in the world of Darren and Andreas. At times I might have wished for more distinction between their voices, but I had such a great time listening that in the end that didn't matter much, I was happily listening along to each word he spoke, needing to find out what happened next.

Suspicious Behavior was fast paced just a great listen. So much so that I couldn't put it down but had to listen to the whole thing in one go. And if the boys had it tough in their precinct before I can't imagine how it will be now after this shit storm. But lucky that I am, I don't need to wait long as I can jump right into Reckless Behavior and find out.
Highly recommended.

Even better than the first book

I'm really loving this series. The mystery was compelling, but I really loved seeing the relationship between Darren and Andreas evolve. There were definitely some gut wrenching moments as Andreas deals with his past and Darren deals with a family illness and his own uncertain future, but it was wonderful to see how they supported each other. Michael Ferraiuolo continues to give life to these great characters. 5 Stars for the story and the narration!

a great read.

This is book two in the Bad Behavior series and though you may be able to follow on its own I suggest you read them in order. Suspicious Behavior does pick up after the first book where Darren and Andreas put away a bunch of corrupt cops. Now they are working on some cold cases that even if solved will be hard to prosecute. They stumble on a serial killer case that may not be as cold as it seems.

I absolutely love this series and this book was just as good as the first. The characters are all intriguing. The storyline interesting and the romance between the two men amazing.
If you like good mystery/suspense, hot detectives, and a good romance you will like this.
Michael Ferraiuolo did a great job narrating. I felt he added lots of life to the characters.

great continuation

4.5⭐️

Another excellent book in the Bad Behavior series, “Suspicious Behavior” picks up about a month after the events in “Risky Behavior”. Darren’s injury and the hostility from their fellow cops because of the fallout from the first book sees Andreas and Darren looking into cold cases from another precinct. Soon they are faced with the knowledge that not only is there a serial killer loose, but he or she will be striking again soon unless Darren and Andreas stops them.

Not only are they frustrated by the case and the antagonistic environment in every law enforcement arm in the city, each man is dealing with consuming personal matters that interrupt what little free time they have for their relationship, while taking an emotional toll and adding to their stress. Darren’s brother’s health is deteriorating and the family is faced with a painful decision, while Andreas is forced to come clean with his older daughter Erin, while worrying about the trouble his youngest daughter’s mother may be in.

Michael Ferraiuolo is still great at capturing the emotions and Andreas's voice, although his inner voice for Andreas sounds just like Darren's in this story and is somewhat confusing at times. However, most of his character voices are great. “Suspicious Behavior” tells an emotionally complex story, while maintaining momentum, intrigue and believable frustration and hardships in the mystery/action element of the story. Although I thought Darren and Andreas were great together in “Risky Business”, their relationship grows so much, despite the limited amount of personal time they have and is even more compelling; I look forward to reading the next book.

enjoyed it - solid 4 stars

📖 Story comment: good pace, well developed characters, complex story.
I'm completely invested in this series and it's only book 2!
The characters feel real, their struggles are real, their lives aren't perfect and they make mistakes, but they are stronger together than apart and it works.

🎧 Narrator comment: Michael Ferraiuolo is a master story teller. He suits the characters, has a plethora of accents, wonerful pacing, good cadence, inflections and intonations and pulls all the emotions out of the story. His performance brings life to every scene and i've thoroughly enjoyed myself.

OMG this series 😍

I'm loving this series. It's amazing and giving me all the Alice Winters Hitman vibes, not as much hilarity but definitely on the same playing field. Worth the money, so excited for the next book.
