Publisher's summary

Lee Ann London once had big plans…scholarship, college, love. Then she found herself raising her deceased sister’s twin girls when their father disappeared. Now, with her beautiful girls, a community that depends on her, and her photography studio finally taking off, Lee Ann may not have the life she’d imagined, but it’s definitely the one she wants. Until Cody, her bad-boy ex, returns to Sugar Springs…

Cody’s childhood put a chip on his shoulder the size of Texas. Bouncing around the foster care system, he was always the one to leave before anyone left him first. Then he found a place he wanted to stick: with Lee Ann, the best thing that ever happened to him. Only, he hurt her. Bad. He’s back now, and determined to earn her forgiveness…and maybe win back her love while he’s at it.

Rekindled Romance

I have made no bones about my enjoyment of romance novels. I will even go so far to say that one thing I like about them is their predictability. What can I say? I like a happy ending.

Sugar Springs by Kim Law doesn't disappoint and Natalie Ross was outstanding with the delivery of the story.

Lee Ann London is a busy single mom. She nursed her sister while she was pregnant, won't give too much away here, and took the two little girls after her sister passed away, when Lee Ann wasn't much more than a kid herself. I really enjoyed the fact that Law didn't gloss over some of the struggles a young single mother would face, and given the way that these two little girls came about Law did a wonderful job highlighting Lee Ann's strength and courage without making her into a martyr.

Cody Dalton was the bad boy that Lee Ann gave her heart too in high school, but a crushing blow drove the two of them apart and Cody skipped down. And now, he's back.

We all know that a big part of a book like this is the bad boy proving himself a changed man, but what I loved most about Law's book is that she made Cody just as unsure of himself as Lee Ann was. He wasn't overly confident, he didn't get by on his swagger. He struggled and looked to find a place for himself, and that is why I enjoyed this book.

Romances are predictable, but it's what brings us TO that happy ending that makes or breaks a book for me. Law did a great job weaving a story or broken trust and fragile emotions.
There is some sexual content but not too much.
She set up a few different stories that could continue the Sugar Springs storyline, so I hope she revisits them. I would really love to see Lee Ann, Cody and their girls again.

Sickly Sweet Sugar Springs

I enjoyed the author's other book on Audible, Caught on Camera. So was looking forward to reading Sugar Springs. It was difficult to finish. I kept waiting for it to get some grit or tension. I kept expecting the main characters to develop some character. A little personality would have been nice. Instead everyone, even the bad boy was just too nice. It was hard to imagine that the citizenry of the town could have held a grudge against him all these years for a fairly mild childhood prank, especially because most of them didn't know about the affair.

And the twins sounded like they were 30 not twelve. They were just too perfect and well adjusted. The narrator was as syrupy as the characters and the plot.

It made my teeth hurt. I may have developed a cavity reading this one.

Way good!

This story had a lot of depth. I really loved all the characters and I couldn't put is down. Although, not related as in a series, Kim Law's other book "Caught on Camera" was equally good if you like this one.
Natalie Ross does a great job as well. She makes the story come alive and the characters believable. Would definitely listen to both again!

too much thinking

This is how it went. Something happens. She thinks 5 things and then wonders 7 things, then compares all those thinks to her childhood. Eventually she says something. He then feels 7 things, hates himself 5 ways to Sunday and wonders 4 more things. Then he says something. It takes 5 years for them to even have a conversation.
Natalie Ross was superb and is the only reason I finished this damn book.

Yawning............

What did you like about this audiobook?

I did not enjoy!!! Slow and immature.

How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?

NO!

Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?

The story is about adults, but written as the main charters didn't have a clue in life.

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

I have listen to the narrator's other books, no problem. It was not the narrator!

Such A Sweet True Love Story!!

This is my first book by this author and I'm so glad I tried it! The characters are so sweet and loving that you can't not hope for a Happy ending. You will cross your fingers that it all comes out and love conquers all.

Ugghh, Didn't Like Lee Ann

Any additional comments?

Oh my gosh, I couldn't stand Lee Ann with her selfishness and narrow-mindedness. Someone desperately needs to explain to her the meaning of the words "discussion" and "compromise". She says she wants a relationship with Cody, but that’s only if she can bend him to her will. That’s not the way a relationship works.

Your man has a job...a really good job...and prior commitments to that job. So let him work his job and then discuss your future during that time.
But no, instead of talking it out and getting to the bottom of the truth, she runs (which is what she constantly blamed HIM for throughout the book, by the way) with his two girls. HIS two girls...HIS. Taking HIS girls without his permission or knowledge to an unknown location and turning her cell phone off so she can’t be contacted...uh yeah, that's kidnapping. You can’t do that. But she’s so selfish all she can think about is herself. And hey, in the end, the man groveled and she got what she wanted all along, so why should she have to change?

Why didn’t SHE have to apologize or grovel? She didn’t care what Cody wanted, she didn’t care what the girls wanted, she only thought about herself. And then she badmouths Cody to his own daughters with UNVERIFIED gossip. That’s just not cool. If she has a romantic problem with her man, she needs to keep it between the adults involved and away from HIS daughters.
And no, I don’t give her any props for saying she’s willing to go with him to Florida with the girls at the end of the book. That was the twins’ decision…not hers. If the twins, who are WAY more mature than her, by the way, hadn’t said they wanted to go to FL, Lee Ann never would have gone.
The twins were actually drastically more mature about the entire situation than Lee Ann. Cody should have dumped her, had her arrested for kidnapping, and taken his girls to Florida. Ok, not really *eye roll*, but still, I was so exasperated with this story. But that being said, I will continue with the series. I liked the book and the supporting characters…I just didn’t like Lee Ann.

I did find it rather amusing that in the last sentence of the book, Lee Ann “stretched to meet him halfway” for a kiss…so at least she’s willing to compromise in distance when it comes to kissing. Baby steps, I suppose, very teeny, tiny baby steps….

Light on content, heavy on dramatics

Would you try another book from Kim Law and/or Natalie Ross?

No - I found all the making things up in one's head tiresome. And the narrator's emphasis on the wrong words in a sentence distracting

Has Sugar Springs turned you off from other books in this genre?

for the moment

What three words best describe Natalie Ross’s voice?

Nauseating, unpleasant, patronising

Could you see Sugar Springs being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Please no

Snooze Worthy

What disappointed you about Sugar Springs?

The story, the characters, the lack of excitement, romance, poor dialogue...I could go on and on.

What was most disappointing about Kim Law’s story?

The characters were immature and there really wasn't a story to the..well story.

What does Natalie Ross bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Natalie Ross did a great job but even she couldn't breath life into this story.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Sugar Springs?

I wouldn't necessarily cut them, I probably would add to them and edit edit edit...
