Publisher's Summary

Succubus (n.) An alluring, shape-shifting demon who seduces and pleasures mortal men. Pathetic (adj.) A succubus with great shoes and no social life. See: Georgina Kincaid.

When it comes to jobs in hell, being a succubus seems pretty glamorous. A girl can be anything she wants, the wardrobe is killer, and mortal men will do anything just for a touch. Granted, they often pay with their souls, but why get technical?

But Seattle succubus Georgina Kincaid's life is far less exotic. Her boss is a middle-management demon with a thing for John Cusack movies. Her immortal best friends haven't stopped teasing her about the time she shape-shifted into the Demon Goddess get-up, complete with whip and wings. And she can't have a decent date without sucking away part of the guy's life.

At least there's her day job at a local bookstore--free books; all the white chocolate mochas she can drink; and easy access to best-selling, sexy writer Seth Mortensen, aka "He Whom She Would Give Anything to Touch but Can't".

But dreaming about Seth will have to wait. Something wicked is at work in Seattle's demon underground. And for once, all of her hot charms and drop-dead one-liners won't help because Georgina's about to discover there are some creatures out there that both heaven and hell want to deny.

What the Critics Say

"At the start of a planned series, Mead cooks up an appetizing debut that blends romantic suspense with a fresh twist on the paranormal, accented with eroticism." (Booklist)

"Elisabeth Rodgers’s understated narration displays subtle skill. Her low, even voice traces Georgina’s snarky musings and wistful regrets without melodrama. Rodgers’s vocal choices also support Mead’s secondary characters. Angels mesmerize as they try to convince Georgina to repent. Demonic pals and mortal co-workers emerge with unique voices and endearing concern for the likable Georgina. Mead’s quirky story—the forces of good and evil even gather for Friday night happy hour—is well matched by Rodgers’s intuitive depiction of Georgina’s complexities." (AudioFile)

" It what you would expect "

Not what you would expect in a succubus book. I thought it was very exciting and different. I can't wait to see how this plays out.

    "Reminds Me of Bad Fanfiction"

I tried really hard to give this book a chance. But it's just so clichéd. Hot girl, who doesn't want the attention, gets pursued by every man she meets. Even the author's attempts to avoid cliché ends up being cliché. "Oh, we have a demon and an angel, but they hang out together. And the angel smokes! Isn't that so different?" The book gave me a little hope when Georgina meets Roman. Roman makes fun of his own name, lampshading the the trope about unusual character names in romance novels. But those hopes were quickly dashed.

I didn't really care for Rodgers as the narrator. She reads just fine, but it sounds like an author reading aloud from the book at a book signing. (Appropriate, given how the story begins.) The problem with that is when the story is told first person, the narrator really ought to have a less formal sounding tone. After all, this is supposed to be Georgina Kincaid telling us her story, not someone reading from a novel to an audience.

"Don't let the title dissuade you!"

At first, I was unsure of this book due to the title and my assumptions surrounding it. My best advice to any prospective reader is that this book is snarky, funny, sexy, and adorable! I will definitely be reading more of this series in the future.

    "Better Than Expected"

I really liked this suggested book. I've done some of the Kim Harrison and Debra Dunbar audio books but I think this one is my favorite so far. The Rachel Morgan books are more mysterious and dark with focus on plot points but I like that this book built on relationship interactions with the other characters. They seem more individualized than just, "there". Debra Dunbar's Sam, is more light natured and dables a bit in the folklore but not as much as I'd like.

I felt this one was a good combination of, character development, understanding of the culture and overall feel of the book.

    "pretty good"

Nice start to what could be a nice supernatural/fantasy series. I usually have a hard time with female narrators (my ears are sexist) but this was great.

    "An interesting read."

I was initially disappointed the character was not really an overt heroine, however I came to really enjoy the book and bought the second installment. With the book being about a succubus, as you may have guessed it has some "steamy" sex scenes, but they do not over take the story line. The main character is smart and witty and you really feel her emotions. The narrator and other did both of their jobs well.

"Picture on cover does not do justice"

I enjoyed this book. Although this is the initial book, some of the suspense is answered before the end. Richelle keeps you guessing who Georgina's love interest is. Although Georgina keeps saying she doesn't want a love interest. The ending isn't wrapped up in a nice little bow and delivered to the Happily Ever After group, it is an acceptable ending. The narrator Elisabeth Rodgers does a great job on the characters.
