Publisher's summary

During the rule of her murderous Dark Fae uncle, Thistle "Tricks" Periwinkle found sanctuary among the Wyr in New York. Her ethereal beauty and sparkling personality won the hearts of the public, but after her uncle's death, there are those who don't want to see her ascend to the throne.

Able to wield thunder and lightning, Wyr sentinel Tiago Black Eagle has ruled the skies for centuries. His massive build and thunderous power make him one of the Wyr's best weapons. And he's sent to protect Tricks when she's almost assassinated in Chicago. Soon, both Tiago and Tricks will fall prey to the stormy hunger that engulfs them - a passion that will shake the very foundation of all the worlds.

Lots of suspense... some hot romance

This is book 2 in the Elder Races series. You don't really need to read them in order since there are barely any references from the previous book. This is the story about Thiago and Tricks. She inherited the Dark Fey throne and someone is out to impede her from becoming the Queen. That's why Thiago goes after her to defend her. I liked this book but it felt kind of long. The romance takes quite a long time to develop and I found myself saying: "do it already darn it!". This story has more suspense than romance and I liked the fact that it was not predictable. I never predicted who the bad guy is. Overall I liked this book and will most likely get the third one in the series but it is not as hot and romantic as the first book. The narrator does a nice job with the different characters although Minion's voice (Tricks) is a little annoying.

Great Story!!

This audiobook was so great! This is the second book in Thea Harrison's Elder Races Series and the story was great! I'm a reader who usually reads the book first and then listens to the audiobooks of the series I truly LOVE! I decide this time to use my monthly credit on a book I had not read yet!

I think my favorite part of was how perfect the voice of Niniane was portrayed. The narrator voiced her exactly how I pictured her speaking in my head! The other characters were very well done also!

Overall, a great book worth listening too! AWESOME JOB Ms. Eastlake!! A GREAT JOB goest to Thea Harrison as well....keep them coming!!

Loved Dragon Bound but...

I loved the first book in this series Dragon Bound but this one missed the mark for me. I had to force myself to finish it.

The Dude Has Lightening Bolts in His Eyes!

This is the second book in the Elder Races series, but it could have been listened to without hearing the first book, Dragon Bound. There are references to things that happened in the first book but not enough so that you would have been lost if you didn’t read it.

This story takes up where the first left off and is the love story of Tricks (cute little dark Fae princess) and Tiago (Big ole Thunderbird). There are many circumstances that keep Tricks and Tiago apart including themselves. Although they both feel an attraction to each other, they are hesitant to take the big step that will mate them for life.

There are also many Dark Fae that don’t want Tricks to ascend to the throne so every once in a while there will be an assassination attempt on her. Between the assassination attempts and the friends that are trying to keep them apart, the world just seems against the possibility of Tricks and Tiago ever being together.

This story had a slow build up to the ultimate conclusion. There was a point where I was just thinking ‘get on with it and mate already will ya?’ but that is just my impatient self. Overall it is a good second book and I believe those that enjoyed the first book, Dragon Bound, will also enjoy this story.

The Narration Review
This audiobook was narrated by Sophie Eastlake who was also the narrator for the first book. She has a great story telling voice that is very easy to listen to. Sophie sounds youngish, so I always blush for her when she has to say sexually explicit things. LoL

EXPECTED GREATNESS, BUT IT WAS A GOOD EFFORT!

This was a good follow up to Dragos' and Pia's book, and can completely stand alone, however it didn't have as much spark to keep me riveted as the first book did. I think I expected more from 'Tricksy' since she seemed cute and interesting initially, but her character fell a little flat for me, and just seemed petty at times. Tiago, on the other hand, totally salvages the story; this sexy beast was hilarious, crass, sarcastic, but extremely adorable! Overall, I'm hooked on the series, and would recommend it to anyone that loves other worldly romance and fantasy.

Tiago - a Hot Black Eagle for Everyone

This is book 2 in the series, but you don't really need to read book 1 first to enjoy this one. Tiago Black Eagle ("Thunderbird") has ruled the skys with lightening and thunder for centuries. He is big, strong and scares most people on sight. "Tricks" is the Heir to the Dark Fea thrown. Tricks is very pixie, sweet, upbreat and kind person who needs protection. Someone is trying to kill Tricks, so Tiago travels with her back to her homeland to protect her. There is lots of suspense - I did not figure out who the bad guy was until the end. This book had it all - hot sex, suspense, romance and strong characters that you really liked. I can't wait to read book #3!

Annoying Valley Girl Barbie Doll Alert!

Would you try another book from Thea Harrison and/or Sophie Eastlake?

Yes I have one more to go, but this was such a disappointing difference from Dragon Bound.

What could Thea Harrison have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Not make a 217 year old fairy sound like a whiny immature Barbie Doll, ugh. The banter between a 217 fairy and...an older then time Thunder bird was just ridiculous, I felt like it was a scene out of "Mean Girls". Age is suppose to signify experience, knowledge, grace and wisdom, but instead you get annoying drunk sorority girl that gives it up in a night club....classy.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment, I really wanted the characters to be more mature for their substantial age.

Any additional comments?

so far this is my least favorite it the series, Dragon Bound is still the best.
