Publisher's summary

Even before surviving the Scorpius bacterium, Greyson Storm was a lone wolf navigating minefields. As a kid, he learned to take a hit and find safety. As an adult, he joined the military and quickly learned how to protect and defend. When the world ended, he created a mercenary camp with military precision, no entanglements, and a promise to avenge a fallen friend. As part of that vow, he kidnapped Maureen Shadow, but now that he has let her go, her blue eyes and intriguing mind keep haunting him....

As possibly the only biotechnology engineer still living, Maureen Shadow might be humanity's one hope to survive the aftermath of Scorpius, making her frighteningly valuable to both allies and enemies. Even after sexual tension explodes with Greyson, she's not sure which camp he belongs to - friend or foe? Worse yet, survival may mean thwarting his prime mission, putting her in even more peril. When danger and seduction collide, there is no safety in this new world.

Love this series! It's one of my Favs!!

I've been waiting for Grayson and Maureen's story for multiple books, so I was super excited that it's finally here!! I love when a "bad guy" turns good, and Grayson is a sexy, sweet alpha! Maureen wasn't my favorite, and I don't love the plot device for these two, but I still love this book. All of the action is super awesome, and I really love the overall premise for this whole series. I'd definitely read the previous books before this one because there is a continuing storyline throughout the whole series, and previous main characters are present in this story. The Scorpius syndrome is still a problem for everyone, and both groups need to decide where their allegiance lies. Grayson has quite the reputation, and since he originally kidnapped Maureen, she doesn't quite know what to think of her feelings for Grayson. Sweet, sexy romance and awesome, cool action scenes! Although, I don't know why these tough military guys all go on missions together and leave their territories without much leadership, so they become easy targets! But, I do love when all those alpha guys get together, makes for some fun scenes! I love that there's dual POV's! Love Grayson's POV, and I enjoyed his southern backstory. It super great to see the couples from the previous books, and there's still so much story to be had! The premise for the next book isn't my favorite, but I'm definitely continuing with this series! It's one of my favorites! I listened to the audio version of this story, and the narrator did a great job! He gets really intense during the action and love scenes. He had me smiling at how passionate he sounded. I'd definitely recommend the audio version if you have the chance

Good series

I enjoyed this story overall. Zanetti always has story line in her romance which is always what I am looking for. It does have some holes in the story but it’s good listening. This series doesn’t have as much action as her other series. I did feel it has way too many nookie scenes and not enough dialogue and interact between the characters. It actually more action then conversation and dialogue. Part of a great story is good and funny dialogue. However it was very entertaining and I still very much enjoyed the story line.

Maureen and Greyson were great together!

I really enjoyed this book! If you have been following my reviews, you know that I have been working my way through Rebecca Zanetti’s books and you can call me a fan at this point. I am especially drawn to this series which is set in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by a deadly bacteria. This is the fourth book in the series and I would recommend reading this series in order since events from earlier books come into play in this book. I found this to be a very entertaining and exciting story.

Maureen Shadow is a Biotechnology Engineer whose skills are more important than ever now that what’s left of the world’s population is struggling to survive. Greyson Storm is the leader of a group of mercenaries who happen to be at odds with the Vanguard group that includes Maureen’s brother, Raze. Despite the fact that Greyson originally kidnaps Maureen, the pair are eventually drawn to each other and she even agrees to spend more time with his group later on. I thought that Maureen and Greyson made a great pair and I liked the chemistry between them. As expected, the book has a lot of action and excitement and I had a great time watching this group of characters navigate another set of obstacles.

Michael Pauley does a wonderful job with this series. I am liking his narration more and more with each book that I listen to. I thought that he does a great job with the various character voices including both males and females. He adds just the right amount of emotion into his voice to help take the story to the next level. I do believe that his narration added to my enjoyment f this story.

I would recommend this series to others. I have enjoyed meeting each of the featured couples in the series and Maureen and Greyson were no exception. I am looking forward to listening to the next book very soon.

Perfect!

Love this series and once again I'm left anxiously waiting for the next book - this time April and Damien's story. They keep getting better and better. I'm so glad they are available as audiobooks too, makes it so much easier to enjoy multiple times when it's a favorite like these are!

Storm Gathering by Rebecca Zanetti

Storm Gathering by Rebecca Zanetti
4th book in the Scorpius Syndrome series. Post-apocalyptic Romantic suspense. Books should be read in order as part of the series.
About a virus that has killed 95% of the population. Written several years before the current (2020) environment.
Greyson is the leaders of the Mercs. A former soldier, his organization is built to survive.
Maureen is a biotech engineer working on the lack of food after the virus. Grey kidnapped Moe to get help for his group putting the Vanguard group on the enemy list. Finding a viable food source is Moe’s focus and, sure she might hate Grey at the moment, but she still wants to feed his group as well as the rest of the remaining survivors.

Journal entries as chapter starters made this story entertaining. A little insight to what the characters are thinking and feeling as the story progresses.

I did not agree with Grey’s decision and knew it wouldn’t end well. I understand why he made the decision. After all, as a reader, I can see the evil and manipulative behavior behind The Office and man while Grey can’t. But oh, it was heart wrenching when his hope was smashed and he was forced to leave ......

Intense, gripping, and sexy. I can’t wait to read the next in the series.

I alternated between a paperback copy and the audio version. The narrator did a great job with voice variations and showing the stress of situations.

A great series.

This is a great series. Too many romance stories out there are lacking in plot and focus just on sex scenes. Rebecca Zanetti does a great job utilizing a lot of plot about a post apocalyptic world, and then weaves in the romance. I also appreciate and author that can still deliver true novels in a digital era where many people pass off 150 page stories as "books".

Michael Pauley is abso-fucking-lutely fantastic at narrating. Great at the action, great at the ability to throw uniqueness and personality into characters to make each voice sound unique, including the female characters, plus has one of those better-than-sex voices. So I am sure that helps.

Let's just say, knowing I have to wait until March for Winter's story, hopefully narrated by Mr. Pauley, is torture. Torture, I say!

Pretty good story and addition to the series :)

3.5-4 stars

This was a pretty good story and addition to the series. I liked Maureen (Grey grew on me after a while) and the story was interesting and engaging.

Maureen is a biologist that specializes in plants/crops. With the scarcity of food now that the country's infrastructure is gone and most of the population is dead, Maureen's knowledge of growing things is greatly needed. Maureen's brother is military (he's the MC from book #2 Shadow Falling) and she ends up kidnapped by someone that wants to blackmail him.

Grey is the leader of the Mercenaries...a group of survivors that are mostly ex-military and there are no women or children in the group. Grey is determined to find a man that was responsible for the major spread of the disease when it first was discovered. His blackmailing of Maureen's brother is specifically to find this man but (if you've read the previous books) that plan doesn't work out too well.

I'd already read about Maureen's kidnapping by Grey in book #2 but I was happy that this book gave us some insight into what happened during that time as it helped to flesh out the connection between Maureen and Grey. Because she was a kidnap victim, Maureen didn't want to want Grey but she did and things might have gone a bit further during her captivity than anyone would expect. So not only do they have a strong mutual attraction, there's unfinished business between them. When Grey and Maureen see each other again after she was released from her kidnapping, there was definitely some mixed feelings between them.

Despite her confusion over things with Grey, Maureen really wants to see the greenhouses in the Mercenary's territory and see if there's any helpful food plants being grown that could be salvaged. Her brother isn't too thrilled about the possibility of Maureen being under Grey's control again and this causes some difficulties between the Vanguard and the Mercenaries. Because of how they met, Maureen is unsure about whether to trust Grey or not and he doesn't make it easy on her because there's still no formal agreement between the Vanguard and the Mercenaries and Grey is a bit wishy washy about where his loyalties lie. Thankfully, things do get ironed out and while some stuff is still up in the air, things do end with the Vanguard and Mercenaries becoming allies and Grey and Maureen together and working on their HEA.

This was a pretty enjoyable story. I liked Maureen and thought she was a good heroine. Grey had the potential to be a good hero and he was...eventually. I was just rather disappointed that he legitimately had to question who to give his loyalty to (you'll understand when you read the story) but at least he made the right choice in the end. Overall, I liked the characters and found the story to be good and very engaging. I'd recommend the story and series. :)

* note - I'll be honest....at first the narrator sounded rather robotic and I was seriously thinking about returning the audiobook. But I kept listening and found that he sounded much better as the narration proceeded. He didn't improve to the point of greatness but I thought the narration was good overall.

Greyson is my new favorite Alpha...next to Jax :)

Storm Gathering is the 4th book Of Rebecca Zanetti's awesome Scorpius Syndrome Series. It's about a plaque that is trying to wipe out life as we know it and the strong group of willed people who won't let the human race die out. Of course there are also groups out there that just want to control the world not save it. Therefore making the battle to just survive that much harder.

Storm Gathering centers around Greyson Storm, the leader of a mercenary camp full of men only and a former sniper. Greyson made a vow to revenge the death of his best friend by killing his killer. In order to do that he kidnaps Maureen Shadow a Biotechnology Engineer and the sister of a very dangerous man, Raze Shadow, lieutenant of a rival group of survivors called Vanguard. Raze will stop at nothing to get Maureen back and Grey will stop at nothing to revenge his friend.

Both Maureen and Grey have been introduced to us in previous books through out the series and only part of their story was told. Grey kidnapped Maureen, her brother got her back, but what happened during the time she was held captive? Well you find out in Storm Gathering along with a few shocks you didn't see coming. This book is very fast paced and full of complex characters you can't help fall in love with and root for along the way. It's full of non stop action from page one.

An excellent addition to an already awesome series and I highly recommend you read them in order. Michael Pauley does an outstanding job narrating the story as Rebecca Zanetti goes back and tells us parts of it that have not yet been told. While also moving the story forward to the everyday struggle of trying to survive in a post apocalypse world.

This series is really getting good.

This is not your standard romance. There is lots if action, characters with depth, intense drama, tear evoking saddness. tear evoking happiness, sexual passion and thought provoking events. This series has it all and isn't predictable. Well worth the credit. I wish I didn't have to wait until March 2018 for book 5. :(
