Publisher's summary

Sandman. Angus. Morpheus. He is known by many names, except his true one, Adrian. When he departs his world, it is to enter the sacred space of sleep, and he is not there to sow sweet dreams. Adrian's mission is to reap the dark energy of nightmares, work that has twisted his soul as well as his once-handsome face. Now, he lives only to await the day darkness finally overcomes him...and to collect exquisite reminders of what he's lost.

But there is one treasure that stands apart. Having risked everything to obtain her, Adrian soon realizes his mistake. For Kathryn has a wholly unexpected power over him, not only for what she represents, but for what for she is: a soul with desires as strong as his own, tempered by compassion that could save Adrian from his self-made hell - or condemn them both.

Critic reviews

"Frank is a master of lush prose, combining beautiful fantasy with dark gothic horror and absolutely breathtaking imagery. It's Beauty and the Beast meets Phantom of the Opera - layered with dark sexual tension." ( Romantic Times)

Much Better Heroine

I had issues with the first book in this series that mainly centered around the heroine's personality. This book has a wonderful heroine. I would still, however, recommend that anyone interested should read the first book in the series (Hunting Julian) first, because the world building descriptions in that book are necessary to fully understand and appreciate this book.

The storyline here is essentially a Beauty and the Beast story, but definitely NOT the Disney version. It is much darker, with very little "sweetness", particularly in the first part of the story. It does present frank sexual situations, and is explicit in detail. It dabbles a bit in sexual "force" fantasies, but presents it fairly and didn't take it far enough for it to be disturbing, at least not for me. Still, I felt it necessary to throw the caution out there for anyone particularly squeamish about such things.

All in all, I loved this book. It was what the first book should have been had it not had a heroine I (and several other reviewers) had a hard time stomaching. I love this new world that the author has created, I love the scenarios and the way the existing needs of the world leave things open for further books in the series, but each book can still be a complete story in and of itself.

My only real complaint is that the Australian heroine not only didn't have an Australian accent, she also didn't use words Australian's typically use (ie. she refers to not being able to go to "college" rather than the Australian terms "university", or more commonly, "uni". "College" in Australia generally refers to private high schools). This is something that most American listeners wouldn't pick up on, but I happen to be married to an Aussie and have spent several years in the past there, so I noticed the inaccurate details. Still, that's just being pedantic, and it didn't really take away from the story, so I left my "5 stars" intact.

Another great Book!!

Jacquelyn Frank has written another great book in this series and Xe Sands does a great job of narrating it as well. There is no let down from the first book as so often happens with book series. The plot and sub-plots keep the action moving at a good pace. One of the things I liked best in this book is that some of the "Good Guys" in the first book are starting to show their true colors in this book. It will be interesting to see what happens to them in up coming books. The bad thing is now I have to wait for the next book.

My first Frank novel, and I loved it!

Any additional comments?

I had just finished the Fifty Shades trilogy and realizing I enjoyed erotic romance novels I wanted to give this one a try. I was not disappointed in the least! I enjoyed the storyline very much with this slight supernatural twist. In my opinion it is very well written with intricate details and descriptions that help shape the imagination. The main characters are strong and charismatic, and to be honest the love scenes are hot! The ending left me satisfied but still wanting more, which is the goal of many writers.
This is the first Xe Sands performance I've heard and I wasn't sure in the first few moments but as the story went on, I couldn't imagine the voices any other way. I think she did a fantastic job.
I would definately recommend Jacquelyn Frank and Xe Sands to others.

Still waiting for the Gather's to gain steam

The originality of the story is somewhat lacking after book 1 of the series. So many interesting directions this series could have gone in after the first book that to fall back into the standard, me a beast, you a beauty, we have issues lets fight and work though them to save the day, was a little disappointing. But the whole idea of the world of the gatherers is totally cool. And there is so much potential to truly build a good versus evil characters with strong twisted plots that this series keeps you wanting more. Although a little long winded the story is worth a read. Is it over sexed, no? There is a good balance of the strong sensual hot romance between the leads.

This story could have used more drama and anguish. We just LOVE a tormented soul!

Better narrator would help

Xe is ok but has hardly any range and certainly no male voice. There are better out there. Otherwise book is pretty good. I wouldn’t listen to it again. But I would want to finish the series.

Audible books.....

makes attempting to listen by others means to ebooks unbearable! The narrators are so professional in their reading, I listen to books over & over & over!

Gatherers! Picky listener... Yep!

Where does Stealing Kathryn rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Somewhere in the middle.

How could the performance have been better?

I enjoy Xe Sands narration skills and have sought books with her as the narrator, but if she said guardians instead of gatherers once more, I was going to pull the plug. Argh!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Chasing the devil from dreams... To keep him for yourself.

Any additional comments?

This is the second book of this series and I have gotten caught up in the world that has been created. Looking forward to future installments.

Great series.

If you could sum up Stealing Kathryn in three words, what would they be?

Solid characters and plot twists and turns.

What did you like best about this story?

Continued to develop the world Jacquelyn created in the first book. Interesting settings and characters.

Have you listened to any of Xe Sands’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Nice voice modulation and intonation. Easy listen

Any additional comments?

Looking forward to the next in the series.
