Publisher's summary

When her boyfriend of three months, Tad Showers, proposes, 26-year-old April thinks that everything in her life is finally falling into place. Between her flaky, tree-hugging mother and her she-devil boss, marriage seems like the place she'll find love and security. Tad's exactly the kind of man April wants: smart, ambitious, and wildly romantic.

But soon after they're married, the honeymoon ends. Tad's crazy, extravagant gestures are starting to look less romantic and more...well, just plain crazy. Is it normal for her husband to never mention his family, rack up secret credit card debt, and get less sleep than your average insomniac? Are you still supposed to stand by your man, even if it turns out he isn't who you thought he was?

When she promised "for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health", this isn't what April pictured. But sometimes you don't get the life you imagined. And sometimes you have to figure out how to write your own happy ending.

Good Book SoSo Narrator

I enjoyed the book well enough as I have the authors previous books. But the reader was severly lacking. I listen to a lot of audio books and there is only one reader I will avoid but after this book there will be two. You could not tell her male coworkers from her female coworkers. Other than that the story was worthwhile.
4 Stars for the book.
2 Stars for the reader.

My life - badly acted...

I was looking for a nice light listen and instead got a rehash of my life with a manic-depressive by a horrid performer! This is one where I would say go out and buy the book and read it yourself if you like the premise - which, by the way, is: DON'T ignore warning signs - they're there for a reason!!

Book Good. Audio Voice Bad.

The book itself was really entertaining, a perfect companion to my powerwalking, but the woman who read it was TERRIBLE. My advice to the author would be to find a different reader because she does the book no justice.

Waste of a credit

I know I must have read the other reviews before deciding to pick this book. I was in the mood for some light listening to break up the otherwise dreary time spent commuting, and though others commented on how bad the reader was I kind of figured how bad could she really be? Well, now I know.

The story may be just swell but the reader is so dreadful she really detracts from the whole listening experience. In fact, she was so bad I stopped listening on the 3rd CD. I just couldn't take it anymore.

Don't waste your time, money, or even a free credit on this book.

I gave it one star and then wished I'd given it no stars.

follow your dreams uphill

Why do we resist telling our family and devoted friends about the problems we face? It makes for good story-telling, but it's also typical of life. This is a very good story and I enjoyed it. The narrator used some really strange voices which I found unpleasant and unrealistic, so I'll steer clear of that particular narrator in future.

Interesting ups and downs that mirror life

I really enjoyed this book, probably even more than Davis's previous two. The character's struggle to deal with her hidden ambitions and attempt to manage a difficult marriage are themes many people can relate to. The book, including the ending, were compelling. I didn't like this narrator quite as much as the one for her last two books. The voices were annoying, particularly the one of Tad Showers. But I got over it because I was more interested in the book than the voice. Also, the protagonist might have seemed naive, but anyone going through a relationship with a person who has an undiagnosed mental illness (in my case, close family member) will understand how chaotic and confusing it can be, particularly when it's less probable that objectivity is a force in play. Very interesting read!

Not great, Not awful

I typically love Kyra Davis' books. This one let me down. However, I did hear that it was based on her own life - that made it more tolerable.

Male voices painfully poor

I love Kyra Davis so much I am slogging through this book. The male voices are so poor I turn down the volume. With a different narrator I would have made it through. I quit and requested the book from the library to read instead I just can't handle the choppy husband voice one more second! The author's ability to create characters and have witty dialogue is so refreshingly smart. She is worth reading, but not listening, to this book.

NOt worth the money

I agree that speaker was hard to listen to, but I also found book to be dismal. I found it dismal, because main character is a spoiled brat, which not only should be forced to live up to her responsibilities, but to see that her actions are repulsive. She didn't get her fairy tale life, so she gives up and only shows herself as less than a human being. Not only that she failed on ALL of her wedding vows. She found real life not to her liking, so she decided to desert her life for something she enjoys more. She should just live in a made up world of her creation, so she will not ruin anyone else life.
