Publisher's summary

As the fires of war raged around him, Lord Alleyne Bedwyn was thrown from his horse and left for dead - only to awaken in the bedchamber of a ladies' brothel. Suddenly the dark, handsome diplomat has no memory of who he is or how he got there - yet of one thing he is certain: The angel who nurses him back to health is the woman he vows to make his own.

But like him, Rachel York is not who she seems. A lovely young woman caught up in a desperate circumstance, she must devise a scheme to regain her stolen fortune. The dashing soldier she rescued from near death could be her savior in disguise. There is just one condition: She must pose as his wife - a masquerade that will embroil them in a sinful scandal, where a man and a woman court impropriety with each daring step...with every taboo kiss that can turn passionate strangers into the truest of lovers.

Contains mature themes.

Amazing Addition To The Series

SLIGHTLY SINFUL is the fifth book in the Bedwyn series. It is the story of Alleyne, the youngest son. The events in this book occur concurrently with those in SLIGHTLY TEMPTED. Alleyne is injured during the Battle of Waterloo. He is rescued by Rachel York, who find him unconscious and naked. Alleyne awakes with no memory of who he is. Rachel is a young woman who has fallen on hard times and is currently staying in a brothel with four prostitutes. Soon Alleyne is helping Rachel by masquerading as a newly married couple.

This is a story about who we are and what knowledge of the past makes us. Both Alleyne and Rachel are missing the truth about their pasts. The two fall in love while engaged in the fake marriage. This book is more madcap adventure than the others. Rachel and Alleyne travel with four prostitutes and a one-eyes former sergeant. Their deception, however, allows them to discover the truth. I really enjoyed this book. It was funny and poignant at the same time. The end of the book where Alleyne finally finds himself was so incredible that I forgot that the madcap adventure went on just a touch too long. I really like Alleyne and Rachel's romance.
Rosalyn Landor one of my favourite narrators was outstanding with the delivery of the story

OMG.....Rachel needs to be slapped

Even though I'm a huge fan of MB...and RL.....this book is soooooooooooooo hard to stomach. Rachel is a whining, difficult woman who was allowed to whine for WAYYYYYY too long. I finally gave it up at chapter 12. Arghhhhhhhhhhhhh
While I've read/listened to all the books in the Slightly series many many times, I now know why this is the book I save for LASTTTTTTTTTTT. Sorry.....am just too fed up with Rachel to be objective.

Not One of the Better Bedwyn Books

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Sort of. I appreciated how it continued the Bedwyn saga and filled in some holes created in the previous book. However, after a decent beginning, the story and characters faltered for me. Both main characters became tedious at times, and some of their conflict seemed drawn out and uninteresting.

Would you be willing to try another book from Mary Balogh? Why or why not?

Yes, because I have read more compelling stories of other Bedwyns. Balogh is a writer that when she hits the mark, she hits it perfectly; she's just not always consistent.

Have you listened to any of Rosalyn Landor’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, and she always delivers a good performance.

Could you see Slightly Sinful being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Two slightly annoying and mostly likable people.

Any additional comments?

This was a time in which I felt Mary Balogh brought the right elements to a book, but she didn't bring them together well. The story went flat for me and struggled to keep me interested. The minor characters sometimes added nicely to the plot, and other times they were overdone and detracted unnecessarily from more important elements. This book was like a nice sweater knitted by your grandma: The right intention and presentation is there, but it doesn't look or feel right when you try it on. If you're not committed to the Bedwyn series, you could miss this one and be okay.

Surprisingly Funny Romantic Novel

Would you listen to Slightly Sinful again? Why?

Absolutely. It has everything a book needs to be winner. It was worth all the trouble I had trying to listen to the entire book. I had trouble with the tape's forward and rewind. I finally got to listen to the whole book (I think) by listening from "My Library" instead of from my computer's Audible Manager where it stopped and would not go forward from about the 20 - 21st chapter. I had trouble with rewind when listening from "My Library". I will notify Audible and it should be fixed by the time someone else listens to it.

What did you like best about this story?

Everything! From the time Lord Alleyne Bedwyn was thrown from his horse, left for dead, and found without a stitch of clothes on his bare unconscious body by occupants of a brothel, not knowing who he is or why he was on the field of battle; to it's conclusion. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire story!

What about Rosalyn Landor’s performance did you like?

She made the story come alive. She was perfect for this humorous story. Few narrators could read this story of wit, tragedy and romance with such feeling. She was flawless.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was moved by many and varied emotions throughout the book; in the beginning it was anger toward the cad who had stolen the ladies hard earned life savings. I was moved to laughter on several occasions, as well as pity, anxiety, appreciation, feelings from the growing romantic attractions of the characters. I don't want to be more specific so as not to give too much away.

Any additional comments?

For a lessor read I would have given up because of tape troubles, but I was so interested in this book I was determined if there was a way of hearing it all I would find it, even to the point of shutting down my computer, just in case.

I can't imagine any Historical Romance lover not find this book astounding.

I highly recommend it.

Perfection

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This was an excellent book. You can't get any better than MB and RL. It's a match made in heaven. A great author/story and a fantastic narrator.
The voices/performance are amazing!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Geraldine. I don't know if it was her dialogue or the way RL performed it. I could just tell RL loved doing the character and getting to read the dialogue.
Most of the characters have some funny lines. I found myself laughing out loud. This book was just fun.

What does Rosalyn Landor bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I can't say enough about her as a narrator. The first few times I heard her, I thought she made the men sound stuffy and uptight. That was probably earlier books, as her men's voices are wonderful now. I still cant believe that she voices so many characters in this book. And then those same characters pretend to be other people, so RL has to change the voices slightly for their new "pretend roles". that really takes a lot of vocal skill.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A time to remember

Any additional comments?

This was one of the best books I have listen to. I really loved it and am looking forward to listening to it again. The only issue is that it makes most other regency romances seem less. This author writes so many different plots/situations it's just amazing and shows her talent.
When I finish , I just want to read another MB, but have read all that audible has and will have to wait for the next MB audio. I wish all of the books were available .

Best of the Bedwyn novels so far

The story of memory loss and a chance to reform a life was a novel idea and simply enchanting.

Great Plot and Characters

Rosalyn Landor is my favorite narrator. She keep the tension going with the characters unique personalities. The book was good, not one of my favorites but the way it is narrated makes the story come alive.
