Publisher's summary

Book 1 in the After the Crash series. When a plane crashes fifty years in the future the survivors learn:

1. Nuclear war destroyed the world they knew.

2. Plagues have reduced the female population to a precious few and every woman is worth her weight in gold.

3. Werewolves are more than mere stories and they want mates.

Carla is an up and coming country music star when she boards a plane for Denver in the year 2014. After the plane crashes in the year 2064 she learns that nuclear war destroyed technology and unleashed a plague that devastated the female population. Even now, decades after the plague has dwindled to isolated outbreaks, women are precious commodities to be fought for, and Carla finds herself offered as the prize in a Bride Fight. Alpha wolf Taye knows Carla is his mate. Losing her is unacceptable. He wins the Bride Fight. But can he win her heart?

Great start to a smexy shifter series

Great start to a fascinating new series. A fresh new spin on modern times meets post apocalypse. I am very intrigued in seeing where this series is headed.

Carla is a really interesting character, she struggles with coming to terms with her new circumstances. The attraction with Taye is immediate, and she does put up a good fight. How can she resist a smexy Alpha wolf who is set to love and seduce his mate! They have a great dynamic, even though things happen quickly the feeling seem real.

The narrative is mostly from the two leads POV and alternates between them. Really great for understanding both sides of the story! Really seamless changes were easy to follow.

There are many supporting characters introduced and I am very interested in hearing all their stories. Imagine being thrown fifty years into the future! Whoa what a big thing to have to adapt to and then find out there was an Apocalypse when you vanished from your time! Loads of meat on this story.

The smexy stuff is uber delicious!! I could really go for an Alpha guy who has learned how to please his woman from all the best erotic novels! Okay, the terms he learns for the fun parts are a touch off, but the idea is there!! Oh la, I definitely sign up for that seduction!! Plenty of yummy details will get ya hot and bothered!!

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Clementine Cage, she rocks!! Great voices and a real feel for the movement of the story. She reads at a nice quick pace, love that, but if you like it slower you can slow it down on Audible. Really enjoyed the pairing of this narrator with this intriguing series! I am excited to hear more of her of the rest of the books.

Overall, I am really intrigued by this new series. Yummy Alpha men who are also wolves, I am a sucker for shifters! This is a new concept for me and I am definitely hooked!

Eh! Could have been better.

The premise of the story is a very good one. However, this story is not very well developed at all. It left a lot of questions and nothing in the new world was explained as to what had happened, there was no mention of a centralized government, or even a local one, just seemed as if there were a lot of cabals with each one with their own laws of governance. I Know there are several stories about the other girls captured but I would suspect it is from their point of view of their new lives. I don't think I will continue with the series, this one was meh!

Not Air Tight, but Enjoyable

I really did enjoy the story, and overall had to give this book a decent score. Yes, there are some problems. There was an immaturity to the writing style, some holes in the plot line and the author hasn't developed a very strong voice, but the premise and story were good, and the story itself was entertaining. While I did have a few eyerolls in the process of listening to this book, in the end, I was left smiling and satisfied and that's really what reading is all about for me.

This is a dystopian fantasy, but not really a dark one. Oh, yes, the apocalypse has happened, and times are tough. Technology has yet to be reinvented, and living is on the primitive side, although some structures from "before" still exist.

A plane crashes 50 years into the future, and some passengers set out to find help, only to find the world as they know it has been replaced by this primitive version. Men outnumber women by a huge number, so women need to be married to be safe.

Carla, a country music star, finds herself being the prize in a bride fight. The winner, Taye, is a wolf shifter. There's really no explanation if wolf shifters existed in times "before" or if they are a product of the apocalypse. Taye is alpha of his pack. The pack, apparently, like to go nude all the time, live in an abandoned roadside motel, and no other women live there. The books tells how Taye and Carla get acquainted and how their relationship progress. All in all, it was a sweet story.

I actually liked the narrator. She did have a very young sounding voice, which might bother some, but I found she did well with narration and fairly well with voices. No real complaints from me on that score.

Is this book worth a credit. Not really. The length alone would put me off spending a valuable credit for it, but if you can get it on sale, it's not a bad read if you can just suspend belief and enjoy.

Boring and childish

Any additional comments?

I though the intro to this book sounded like something different and entertaining. I love wolf story's and Sci-Fi but this book fell way short of being interesting let alone romantic. Narration was ok but not great. A very poorly written story with not much thought put into any of it. I will be skipping the rest of this series. Should be in the Teens section.

This was one of the worst book I ever listing to

The story was to short and to the point the charters seem to fake. The song she wrote was a really bad song .

Very good start to the series :D

4 stars

This was a very good story. I liked both Carla and Taye and the story was interesting with good potential for the series. This is the first story I've read by this author but I liked it well enough that I plan to try more of her work in the future.

Carla is a country singer and has worked hard to make it big. She's just hitting stardom when her airplane crashes and Carla and the other survivors find themselves in a strange world that's much changed from what they came from. The buildings are old and decrepit and there doesn't seem to be any technology functioning. Carla and another woman named Lisa head out to try to find help and end up as prizes in a bride fight. With the scarcity of women in this post-apocalyptic world, women of marriageable age aren't safe without a good man to keep them safe and provide for them. Carla is very unhappy about their circumstances but has no idea how to get back home and fears she's stuck in this new and crazy world.

Taye is a wolf...a man that can turn in to a wolf (they wont call themselves werewolves because they're not ruled by the moon). He is the alpha of his pack of around 50 men/wolves. He's thrilled to find that one of the women in the bride fight has been chosen by his wolf as his mate. Taye is determined to beat all challengers that stands between him and his mate.

Well the other challengers might as well have saved themselves the entrance fee because a wolf will not be denied his mate. Taye wins the fight and claims Carla as his bride. Carla is completely freaked about being stuck in this new reality and the fact that she's being given away as a prize for a fight. She is very belligerent with Taye for the first part of their time together, not letting him near her and trying not to accept her circumstances and place as his wife/mate. To be honest I couldn't blame her... I mean what would I act like within a couple days of getting transported in to what seems to be a nightmare? Probably about the same as Carla. It's likely that no woman would take it very well, especially since she then was fearful that Taye would rape her as part of their wedding night. Taye takes her home to their packhouse and along the way some men try to steal Carla (which apparently isn't an unusual thing to happen in this time). Taye and his men protect her and she does a little damage herself and they're able to get safely home.

Their first night together doesn't go well but it could have been worse. Taye manages to get Carla to believe that he wont hurt her or rape her (promising to wait until she wants him in return) but she doesn't want his touch or to accept him as her mate. There is an attraction on both sides but Carla is not open to it and tries to keep it shut down. Taye tries to figure out how to convince her to give him a chance and let him near her. While explaining the pack and her new life, Taye shows her his wolf and Carla surprises him by not being scared of his wolf. Things get rather tense when another wolf challenges Taye for leadership and Carla and Carla realizes she was lucky to end up with Taye for her husband/mate. She begins to soften to Taye and he helps things along as he does things to take care of her and make her happy. She realizes what he's doing and appreciates how sweet he's being and it's not too long before she gives in to her attraction and Taye's need for her. They're both very pleased at how things go and their relationship improves. In the mean time, Carla manages to get Taye to send some wolves to check out the crash site to help the other survivors...sweetening the pot by mentioning that there's more women survivors which has the wolves anxious to go (leading to the next books in the series). The story ends with Taye and Carla doing well and starting their HEA together.

I really enjoyed this story. I liked the Carla and Taye. Carla was a little tough to love in the beginning but I could completely understand because of what she was dealing with and all. I liked that she wasn't stupid and came to realize that Taye is a good man and decided to give him a chance. Taye was hot and sweet and a good hero all around. I'm planning to try the next story in the series soon. I'd recommend this book. Thumbs up. :D

* note - The narrator did a fine job but she's not the best with voices that I've ever heard. It didn't ruin the story for me or anything...it just wasn't great.

Seriously lacking

Would you try another book from Maddy Barone and/or Clementine Cage?

No.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Darkness Dawns

What didn’t you like about Clementine Cage’s performance?

I thought the overall performance was bad. The different voices she used were annoying, but especially her man voice.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Sleeping with the Wolf?

I didn't really hear a good one.

Any additional comments?

Don't waste your time, money, credits...whatever...

was it the book or the narriator

Any additional comments?

The book was about a 26 yr old woman who acted like she was a 16 yr old girl. Not that good. not worth a credit.

The book was pretty good.

I enjoyed listening to the book and the narrator did a good job.

Carla and Trey were easy to like. I only wish there had been a little more conflict, either between Trey and Carla or from outside troublemakers, in the story to liven it up a bit.

Great story

This was a great story. I liked the different spin on shifters and time travel. I can’t wait to read the next one!
