Publisher's summary

Just when everything at the Poor Relation Hotel seems to be running smoothly, Sir Philip brings in another poor relation, Mrs. Budge. When Sir Philip presents his paramour, Lady Fortescue swears great oaths and says the woman is probably related to half the costermongers in London and certainly does not possess one rich relative. Mrs. Budge does nothing but eat all day and refuses to do any work around the hotel. Worst of all, Miss Tonks seems to be taking the romance between Sir Philip and Mrs. Budge quite hard.

In the middle of all this commotion, a certain Lady Carruthers and her daughter Arabella come to stay at the hotel. Lady Carruthers is a widow trying to pass herself off as much younger than she actually is. To this end she dresses poor Arabella, who is all of 19, as a young schoolgirl and refuses to bring her out. It is up to the poor relations to deal with the lazy Mrs. Budge, find Arabella a husband, and trounce her terrible mother!

Another worthy read in this marvelous series

Where does Sir Philip's Folly rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

You will finally get to know Sir Folly - not as heartless as he seems to be yet, yet a very very clever, unpredictable man. Wonderful if you can get the book on sale - if not - it is worth a credit.

Any additional comments?

I would not read this book as a "stand alone book" as the series almost works a bit like a puzzle piece. Try to read this series in order, and if it a fun read, nothing to deep, yet entertaining and will ease your mind. Book harmonizes well with the other books in the series. Narrator is great!

Same vibe as the other Poor Relations stories

Overall the same vibe as the previous books in series. It was a cozy listen but nothing extraordinary. I initially liked these books for the humor element as well but this one did not make me laugh. Still, I listened until the end while it was moving ahead in the predictable ways. I wouldn't say I was super engaged in the story, but the narrator's performance kept me entertained.

I have found my new favorite writer!!

Thank you for the history lesson told in a romantic story. I can't stop listening and that is so refreshing. You have given me a smile, a giggle, an outburst of laughter, a moment of sadness and the traditional Happily Ever After.

An engaging listen

I'm enjoying this series. The writing is tight, the characters have a nice depth to them as we've travelled with them through triumphs and heartaches. Many a time I have lol at their antics and situations they get themselves into. Definitely worth the credit.

Not as enjoyable

The Poor Relation series is still mostly enjoyable at this point, but waning. This was by far the least fun book of the series and most frustrating. My hopes are dimming for further installments.

This series is fantastic!

Love the story, the historical accuracy, the humor, the characters, and the narration of this series. Love MC Beaton, and this is one of my favorites.

The Unsinkable Sir Phillip

Loved every minute of the story. Arabella and the Earl of Denby made a beautiful and touching couple. I hope Miss Tonks ends up with Mr. Davy. Even the Ms Budge's story arc worked for me. Now, let me get to my favorite character, Sir Phillip. The writer manages to make his wily and naive in this story. He doesn't get credit for his matchmaking skills. Can't wait to listen to the next book.

One of the only series I will listen to again. Humorous and clever. Worth the price for sure.

Wonderfully Cozy!

The Poor Relations Hotel run by poor relations of the Aristocracy they serve, are delightful and sneaky when it comes to romance as well as financing their joint venture! Fun and easy to listen to, I heartily recommend this series to anyone not interested in torrid sex and intrigues of your typical “bodice ripper”
