Publisher's Summary

My name is Sevin. Homeschooled and sheltered by my ultra-religious family, I was always taught that lust was a sin. Elle was the girl who'd been carefully chosen for me. After a long-distance courtship, I'd be moving into her family's guest house so that we could get to know each other in the months before the wedding. Boundaries were set: no inappropriate touching, no kissing, no sex before marriage. I'd accepted those rules and my fate - until I met the one I wanted to sin with. That was when restraint became a problem, especially since "the one" wasn't Elle; it was her sister, Evangeline.

Contains mature themes.

SO.MUCH.ANGST

If you could sum up Sins of Sevin in three words, what would they be?

Angsty, Forbidden, Heartwrenching

What was one of the most memorable moments of Sins of Sevin?

Well, I don't want to leave any spoilers, but I would say this, half way through the book at Part 2.

Have you listened to any of Sean Crisden and Aletha George ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not. But Sean sounds Just like Kevin Bacon!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I actually DID listen to this in one sitting. On the plus side, my house was clean by the end of it.

Any additional comments?

This is now one of my favorite books.
Penelope Ward's stories are amazing.

Disappointed

I have loved all her books until this one. For one I don't agree with arranged marriages so the start of the book didn't grab me. I loved Sevin and his character but Evangeline just made me mad and I didn't care for her. The author did a great job with showing the chemistry between them but the rest of the story just wasn't for me.

Awesome Narration

It was an overall good story. Though at times intangible to relate too.. LOVE the Narrator.

A good forbidden love story but not a light one.

I kept passing on this book due to the arranged marriage. However, I like Penelope Ward's books so I took a chance with my credit. I admit the middle of the book was a difficult listen because of the unfortunate life paths of Sevin and Evangeline. I was also angry at the selfish characters: Lance, Olga and Elle. This was a dramatic, forbidden love story. The couple's love was sweet, passionate, and sexy. My heart ached throughout until I ended up crying with the surprise ending. With all the angst, I'm glad I used my credit. I star off because of my anguish.

Too torturous

DNF
Tried to get into the book but right away you could tell the religious beliefs were just to much along with the whole arranged marriage and friction between sisters. Not for me. Too tormenting

The story overcame my dislike of the title.

To be completely honest, I had decided to abandon this audiobook within the first hour, but I then ended up in a location without wifi, so I stuck with it (I'm so hooked on audiobooks that I can't stand to not have at least one up and running). I was glad in the end that I did. The beginning led me to believe that it was going to be another compilation of loosely connected porn scenes with just the cursory outline of a plot to justify its existence. Instead it ended up being a poignant story of two people who put commitment to family before themselves, suffering no small amount of heartbreak in the process. I don't like the title: the "sins" were either nonexistent, or else, for the most part, genuine expressions of love. The author went to great pains to point out the hypocrisy among many of the religious adherents in the book, so to then label the hero's actions (thoughts?) as sins seems like a backslide. The narration was well done, and instead of disparaging the book, I think I'll be remembering it for a while to come.

Unconditional Love

As I sit here writing this review, I’m finding it hard to put into words exactly how I feel about this story. I know there were many times the characters frustrated the hell out of me, especially Evangeline. Seven sometimes surprised me with his choices as well. In the end, I really did like this story. Seven endured so much, overcame incredible feats to become a man in this story. There was something incredible beautiful and empowering about Seven’s journey to adulthood. I will say this story will leave you raw with emotion, and unsettled. You’ll walk away from this book somewhat uncertain of what you feel or how to feel but also really glad you went along for the ride. Penelope Ward doesn’t disappoint, and she is known for her jaw dropping plot twist. This story will not disappoint in that regard. I laughed, I cried but more importantly I loved this story. This story really is about unconditional love, and I think if you can make yourself finish it, it really is a beautiful thing to witness.

Moving and amazing!

I absolutely loved this book! Such a capturing storyline - left me breathless and allowed me to ponder and to understand more with what happened to my 17 year love and obsession.

This was a tough book to get through and finish.

I was on the fence of quitting this book so many times, but I stuck to it and finished. It was intense and incredibly emotional. Several things I don’t agree with, but that’s me. They also could have used a different male narrator, as he sounded a bit weak and drunk at times. Definitely not my favorite book by Penelope Ward.
