Publisher's Summary

Eight years ago Thomas Cartwright and Lady Nicola Fitzgibbons were simply friends. Over the wall separating their homes, Thomas and Nicola talked of all things - his studies to become a barrister, her frustrations with a lady's limitations.

All things end.

When her diplomat father gains a post in Hong Kong, Nicola must follow. Bored and alone, she falls into scandal, time and again. Mired in his studies of the law and aware of the need for circumspection, Thomas feels forced to sever their ties. Besides, a member of parliament cannot be associated with a woman of scandal - it isn't proper.

Now Lady Nicola is back in London...and she won't let Thomas ignore her.

Short, Sweet, and So Adorable!

This is the second book by Cassandra Dean and Ana Clements that I have listened to. The book is a short story that spans years of correspondence. I loved the performance that Ana Clements gave Nic and Thomas. She wove emotions into the characters that one would not get just from reading the book. This is the first book of the series and is a standalone listen. I will definitely look for more books by this author and narrator. My review is not a synopsis of the book, but rather my opinion of it. I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, narrator, and/or publisher.

Lovely Victorian romance

A great Victorian romance. The two main characters are very engaging and brilliantly brought to life by narrator Ana Clements. I'm looking forward to the next parts in the series.

Really engaging story beautifully narrated

I thoroughly enjoyed this story and thought using letters to open and close the narrative was a unique and engaging way to introduce us to the main protagonists.
Ana Clements narration is faultless and beautiful to listen to. Her characters are clearly defined and you can really picture them from her tones she uses.
I'm looking forward to listening to the rest of the series.

Historical romance with promise

The characters are nicely drawn although thus far the scandals seem merely alluded to, there is a promise of more development.
The narration gave intimacy to the story and encouraged you to want to know more.
I enjoyed this performance and would look forward to the next in the series.
