Publisher's summary

Talyn Phisher is a counselor in a world that has been turned on its ear by an unthinkable discovery: vampires roam among humans.

If all this upheaval was not enough, Talyn's body is changing. Signs that something is seriously wrong plague her. Having been told she's barren and there's no hope - Talyn still longs for a family of her own, though the stories she hears from clients tell her happiness is a long shot.

Talyn wants that shot. She yearns for a man who will put her first - for who she is.

Until a stalker's pursuit threatens everything close to Talyn's heart.

When Talyn feels her life is in imminent danger, she reaches out in desperation to the Final Enforcement, an elite, fringe group of the police who do more than take the law into their own hands.

Only to discover Talyn isn't what she thinks she is.

And neither is the one who stalks her.

Very Good Story!

Would you consider the audio edition of Shifter to be better than the print version?

I don't know I didn't read the print version but I enjoyed the audio one.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Merck, because he wanted her from the start but was in denial.

Which scene was your favorite?

The ending because it had a happy one.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It didn't make me cry which is a good thing as I hate to cry. There were many parts that made me laugh!

Pheromones Run Amok!

Talyn wants to be loved for who she is, but she's pursued by horny males who only care about what she is, or what she can become, or what she can do for them. It's complicated.

I'm glad I received this audiobook as a box set, because I'd be really upset if I'd received any of the individual audiobooks. Several literally ended with a melee where Talyn is injured or drugged and "everything went black." Gah!

The audio production was sloppy. The splices between recording sessions sometimes chopped off the beginning of the first word, and volume fluctuated badly. I caught several times when the wrong word was used, but I have no idea whether to blame the author or the narrator. The vocal differences between characters was minimal, and sometimes shifted in mid-sentence. Double Gah!

Alpha Claim

Any additional comments?

Hmm…. where to start. The good and the bad. I was really looking forward to listening to this book. In the description it sounded fantastic. Overall this collection of stories were entertaining and enjoyable.

It took me a while to finish this book I could only listen to one of the stories at a time. This was due to the narration. I even re-listened to the whole book just to see if I would change my mind. Personally, I would recommend reading instead of listening. This is not a book I will listen to again.

The stories were entertaining, creative and interesting as well as pretty hot & steamy. There were a couple pretty "unbelievable " (I know, ironic in a paranormal story) moments. Ménage is a theme throughout series. Large cast of interesting characters.

Talyn has just about any kind of Shifter you could think of after her wanting to mate. She is special. It's going to take 2 Alpha Shifters to bond with her and protect her from all the others.

Narration- the good & bad….
This is a case of a narrator definitely affecting the story for me. Holly Elise does the narration for this boxed set. I feel like I have listened to her narrate a book before but not according to my list of audios. She has a pleasant voice. Her narration has a nice pace not to fast or to slow. She does use different voices for the characters, some are good but most of them need work. Especially the male voices. Some of her male voices sound very nasally and it's annoying. Her narration does not always flow smoothly. Even with all this she is not the worst narrator I have ever listened too. With a bit more practice she could be a good narrator.

The sound quality of the audio also fluctuates at times.

Unleasing the beast within

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

This is honestly not a book that I would listen to again. It starts slow and then the individual "books" end in the middle of a scene. The next "book" picks right back up where the last left off. For me it cut the story up too much. Personally, I think it would have been better suited to have a new chapter start, rather than a whole new "book". If this didn't come as a box set, I would be very disappointed that I spent the money on one individual book.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The narration sort of matched the pace of the story, but it was very monotone/robotic. During more exciting points of the book, the roboticness could be overlooked. During slower points it was close to unbearable.

not my favorite

the writing was not great and the plot was lacking. I didn't care for any of the characters. it might have been better had the narration been better. for the first part it seemed almost robotic, but I got used to it. but it stayed very monotone. inflections were off and pronunciation needed help. over all not thrilled and I wouldn't listen again or recommend it.

Very Strange

I was voluntarily provided this book via audiobook boom, This was a box set that would have driven you crazy if you got it one book at a time. They all ended abruptly. These shifters require two males and a female to actually reproduce. There was a lot of fighting and violence toward the lead characters. There was another love interest that was also two males and one female. The entire story centered around talon who was a half-breed from the royal line of the Lycan. Every type of shifter was involved in trying to claim her. In the end, though the Lycan and the dragon were her ultimate mates.
I thought the beginning of the story was stupid. While her protectors were posturing with each other she was being kidnapped by a rogue group of shifters. I almost stopped there because I figured it was going to be a dumb story. Overall it was a good story.

A different take on shifters (still hot though)

What made the experience of listening to Shifter the most enjoyable?

I liked that the six books/parts were included in one book. The end of each part really leaves you hanging, this doesn't matter when the next part is about to start playing.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The woolly mammoth shifter (I want one!)

Would you listen to another book narrated by Holly Elise?

Yes, but I don't think I'd seek her out. Some of the character voices needed work, one male voice sounded female and others could have been better.
It also sounded like there was some noise from the mic being moved or the cord during recording, not a lot but if you know what it sounds like you can hear it a few times.
Holly wasn't a detractor but she didn't really add anything IMO.

Any additional comments?

I wouldn't call this a typical shifter book, it contained some interesting elements that make it a bit different, this is a nice change.

I'd be interested in hearing the stories of other characters in this world.

Captivating and riveting !

This title was a little difficult to follow at first. The character changes were nice and the voice augmenting was decent. Once you got to book three, everything changed and it was hard to put down. The story line of Talon, Merk, and Drake was interesting and I found myself rooting for both men. Very well written and believable.

Shifter

I listened to this series while doing physical therapy exercises after surgery and it made the time fly by. Each book did end rather abruptly so I am glad this was a set so I could just keep listening to the next book. I enjoyed each book. Holly Elise did a good job with the narration. I received this free copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
