Publisher's Summary

After a decade-long absence, Allison Cramer returns to her childhood home to pay tribute to a former teacher. Years of excelling in all of her classes, and pursuing a doctorate at MIT should give her an abundance of confidence and pride. When she realizes that the insecure, 16-year-old bookworm she's tried to bury is still only skin-deep, she must take a hard look at herself. Coming back may open her eyes to what her heart has always wanted.

Shane Taggart has seen more tragedy before his 21st birthday than most people experience in a lifetime. Taking the responsibility of the world on his shoulders has become a way of life. There is no room for fun and socializing, until his head is turned by a vague high school memory with blonde hair and a pile of books.

Letting go of the past while being immersed in it may be the only way Alley and Shane can move forward. Leaving behind the childhood images of who they were, they discover that seeking individual dreams can be attained through the strength found in each other, and that love may be the greatest influence of all.

Wonderful Story

I loved this book. The author, Peggy L. Henderson brings up those insecurities most of us face sometime in our lives and I was drawn into the story. As always, Cody Roberts narrates this story with the true talent he has with his wonderful voice. I'm so glad this is book one as I'm looking forward to more of Peggy & Cody's books.

a contemporary romance from Peggy l henderson

I loved this story! I am a fan of the author's other books which are time travel and/or set in the past and I usually don't read or like contemporary romances so I wasn't too sure if I would like it but this book made me change my mind about contemporary romances (at least by this author). I loved it which just proves that good writing and good storytelling is good writing and good storytelling no matter what time period it is set in. I love the fact that the Taggart name is familiar (Shane's ancestors are in some of Peggy other books but you don't need to have read them to understand this book....it stands alone.) Cody Roberts as the narrator is excellent! his voice is wonderful to listen to and he puts just the right drama and emotion in narrating the story without being overly dramatic or cheesy. I highly recommend this audible book. it is a great listen!

A Prince Charming like Love story.

Not your typical Peggy L. Henderson romance novel being set in modern day. But she adapted and gives us a sweet quick read following a damsel in distress, saved by a hero recipe. Peggy did a nice job developing her main characters so I could admire, love and despise each appropriately. Her Yellowstone Series will always be my favorite but I enjoyed Shane's Burden while waiting for the next book in that series.

Another Great Peggy L. Henderson read

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes! Her descriptions make you feel like you are part of the story and seeing everything the characters are seeing. Cody Robert's voice doesn't disappoint.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Shane....as much as I loved Ally as the once chubby, nerdy girl with the black rimmed glasses who had a huge crush on Shane...I love the sexy pull of stubborn, serious Shane, who goes against everything his normal routine to be near the former, nerdy Ally.

What about Cody Roberts’s performance did you like?

Cody again didn't disappoint. He is able to provide that romantic western flair and vary his voice to bring you compellingly into the story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I really enjoyed seeing Ally blossom from the meek woman who was there to please everyone come into her own while bringing the ranch back to life. I also liked the sparks that flew between her and Shane.

Any additional comments?

Enjoyed this change of pace story from Peggy L. Henderson.

Shane's Burden! Book 1

Any additional comments?

I loved the story line, the romance and our hero, Shane and our heroine, Alley. Peggy L. Henderson always writes with heart bringing the characters to life and Cody Roberts brings another dimension as he narrates the story. Listening to Cody Roberts narrating was a joy as always and he's become my favorite narrator. JudyE

Unrequited love

If you could sum up Shane's Burden in three words, what would they be?

love, loyalty, respect

Who was your favorite character and why?

Allison was pushed and shoved into a box that did not quite fit her and , she had been in a cocoon for so long but always yearning to burst thru and become the beautiful buttery that she was ment to be.

What does Cody Roberts bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Oh his sexy, breathy voice. He brought emotion into the story.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes I did 2 times!! Then listened intermittently after to see what I would miss the first 2 times

Any additional comments?

This was such a sweet, clean and empowering story. Shane was a strong man but needed love to set him and Allison free. They could rely and work together for the better of both of them!! I received this book to listen to and give a honest review. I must say I really enjoyed it and will be getting the others that follow!! <br/>i know that Mason has a story just waiting to be heard!!

Another Winning Combination

The well written story of former nerd Ally and former high school heart throb Shane unfolded perfectly through the voice of Cody Roberts. I have thoroughly enjoyed this combination from the first book I ever heard on Audible, and look forward to many more from this combination.
