Pleasantly Surprised

I really enjoyed this story. It was a very short read that I would have loved to be longer. But, still it was a full story. I loved the characters. Lorelei's character cracked me up. I loved her sarcasm. Some might not like her character or think she was too bitter or sarcastic, but considering what she'd been through, I thought she was perfect. And, I wanted to not like Cole, but I couldn't. He was remorseful, young, and dumb, and felt really bad about what had happened. Now that they are adults, I totally wanted to see what happened between them.

I listened to the audio version of this book. The narrator, Suzanne Barbetta, did a great job! She really brought the characters and story to life. This book was an ARC and, I'm so happy I chose to read and review it. I'm always on the lookout for my next great read or listen!

Short Story Worth A Listen-Use $ Not AudibleCredit

Lorelei was devastated when Cole left her after he graduated from high school. She had good reason, she was pregnant with his child. Now, 14 years later Lorelei is a successful business owner, with a café that is full of regulars. The talk of the day? Cole is moving back to town after all these years. He had visited once while he was gone and the only connection to Lorelei was a frustrated email.

Will Lorelei give Cole a second chance?

This is a really nice, short story. It is neatly tied up at the end and there are no questions unanswered.

Suzette Barbetta was great. She was able to perform both male and female characters in the most believable way.

I really enjoyed the combination of the story, the total of the author's story and the narrator's performance. Definitely worth listening to.

Notes: this is a sweet romance with no foul language.

Rated: G – PG
For four stars for overall, four stars for the narration & four stars for the story.

One would be better off buying this book out right instead of using a credit, in my opinion. It is relatively inexpensive compared to the $10 – $12 credit.

Please consider "following me" here on Audible.com. I purchased a lot of books by authors that I am faithful to. I have the opportunity to review books in all genres, many that I would not pick up on my own. I have been pleasantly surprised by new authors and narrators. Thanks! *I received this book in exchange for my review.

Short, sweet romance

Second Chances was a short, sweet romance. Although it was short, the story was complete and fun. The characters were real, funny, and sarcastic. The narrator did a good job separating the characters and giving them their own voices.

Wanted More Cole and Lorelei

Narration - Suzanne Barbetta - Pretty Good.

Oh, how I wanted more of this book. Perhaps short stories aren't my thing, because they always leave me wanting.

This story has so much potential to be a full novel. I loved the whole storyline between Lorelei and Cole, but just wanted more. All the sudden, it was over. :(

Cute, but not for me.

What did you like best about Second Chances? What did you like least?

The book was cute, well written but to slow for me. Narration did good, very true to the book with the Southern draw.

If you’ve listened to books by Kristi Rose before, how does this one compare?

Never listen to Kristi Rose before.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Narration seemed to slow. The pace could of made a huge impact on the likability of the book.
