Publisher's summary

The Wird sisters are content to avoid the local vampires, werebeasts, and witches of the Lake Tahoe region - until one of them blows up a vampire in self-defense. Everyone knows vampires aren't aggressive, and killing one is punishable by death. But soon more bloodlust-fueled attacks occur, and the community wonders: are the vampires of Tahoe cursed with a plague?

Celia reluctantly agrees to help Misha, the handsome leader of an infected vampire family. But Aric, the head of the werewolf pack determined to destroy Misha's family to keep the region safe, warns Celia to stay out of the fight. Caught between two hot alphas, Celia must find a way to please everyone, save everyone, and oh yeah, not lose her heart to the wrong guy-or die a miserable death. Because now that the evil behind the plague knows who Celia is, it's coming for her and her sisters. This Wird girl has never had it so tough.

One great big listening spree here I come

One of my goals in life is to devour every installment in every Urban Fantasy series the moment they release, but regrettably I’m stuck “adulting” more often than I’d like which forces me to pick and choose, and that’s why Cecy Robson’s WEIRD GIRLS were left on my self until 2015. There is a silver lining though; I can now bask in six full length and several short stories worth of awesomeness in one great big listening spree!

I liked that the author chose four misfits as her heroines, and that each of them came with an exclusive skill set and personality. It really helped set them apart from the typical vampires/werewolves staples, and gave Robson a lot of wiggle room when it came to establishing her baseline. The oldest sibling, Celia Wird, was the MC, and I’m glad that she went with that format albeit; we still got lots of the other sisters as well.

The quick fire pacing, and spectacular fight scenes definitely appeased my need for violence, and the humorous dialogue was further boosted by Renée Chambliss’ sharp performance, but I’ll get to that in a minute. The plot was this novel’s only weak spot; I found it to be rather commonplace, and although I do enjoy a healthy helping of beefcake with my fiction, the potential for an Aric / Misha love triangle is high.

Chambliss’ narration was right on point with Robson’s writing. I think that I would have had no problems differentiating the characters on page because of their unique speech patterns, but the noticeable voice nuances made the experience bullet proof. The reader also doubtlessly contributed to making the punch lines funnier, and cranked up Shayna’s “dudes” and Taran’s potty mouth. Emme’s sweetness was likewise apparent.

SEALED WITH A CURSE had a nice ending to it; however it left me hungry for more too!

Entertaining novel

Would you try another book from Cecy Robson and/or Renée Chambliss?

yes

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The story is entertaining enough to continue with the series. The narrator, though very talented sounds too young for the main character and this was a bit distracting

What three words best describe Renée Chambliss’s voice?

Talented young actress

Did Sealed with a Curse inspire you to do anything?

Seduced by a Bite

Very good, compelling story about 4 sisters who all have very different powers which is unusual that they don't share any common power. They gain the interest & attention of the Town they moved to by their mystery, everyone can sense power but know one knows what they are.Slowly the Wird girls reveal their powers & talents to find that they had a few more that even they weren't aware of.Cecelia is pulled between two Paranormal hotties who both have their eyes on claiming her.A fascinating, wealthy & powerful Vampire & a sexy, thrilling & protective Wolf. But the one she wants is not allowed to really have her for he has to mate with his species, but will he care & throw caution to the wind or will he turn away, sending her into the arms of the other???We shall find out..Good book, very adventurous, full of fun characters.I LOVE Tarin,Ceceilia's sister with the mouth of a pirate.

Great story

I really like the book. There all these books that take place in New Orleans and New York and wherever else and I can't place because I've never been before. But I've gone to Tahoe every summer. Finally there's a book where I know there area and can visualize. Love the story and concept. Only thing I have a problem with is the narrator. She's good, don't get me wrong, but her voice doesn't suit the story. Otherwise it's awesome!

weird girls

I really enjoyed reading and listening to this book. There were parts of it when I was laughing out loud. Celia's inner monolgue was hilarious and the relationship between her and her sisters is just amazing. Can't wait to see what happens next

Conflicted Thoughts

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The author's vocabulary could use some work; the mythology of her paranormal characters was odd; the backstory was introduced very oddly and out of sync with the story.

Would you be willing to try another book from Cecy Robson? Why or why not?

I am willing to listen to the next book, because in spite of the negatives, the story was interesting enough, and the characters likable enough to want to continue learning about their lives. I'm also hopeful that the author's writing style improved as she wrote more books.

What didn’t you like about Renée Chambliss’s performance?

Most egregious was her mispronunciation of words such as, "sashay", but her voice took a bit of getting used to in general, as it is quite trebly.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Maybe. The issues with the story line could easily get worked out with a good screenplay.

Sisters who kick butt

Would you consider the audio edition of Sealed with a Curse to be better than the print version?

I actually enjoyed it just as much as if I had read the book.

What did you like best about this story?

I like the relationship between sisters and all the action in the book. I really look forward to the next one to see were all the relationships go and the sister growth in the supernatural community. I hope we learn more about all the different supernatural creatures rules.

What does Renée Chambliss bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I feel she did a great job telling the story. I hope she does the next one.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes when the female wolf wanted to die and Celia let her hear the heart beat of her baby. I thought was a wonderful and sad moment in the story. I also like how Celia handle herself at the end of the book.

Any additional comments?

I do look forward to the next book.
