Publisher's summary

Vanessa and Nick are en route to Washington, D.C., to celebrate their first wedding anniversary, but their differences threaten to ruin the weekend before it has a chance to begin.

When an accident further up the tracks leaves their train temporarily stranded in Harpers Ferry National Park, a chance meeting with the town's most iconic resident offers insight into a bit of local history.

Will a poignant message from the past help put the newlyweds' future on less shaky ground, or are they doomed to disaster?

short but good

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This was a very short but interesting ghost story. I liked the premise and thought it was well written and narrated. If you want something short and entertaining, this is worth checking out.

Screaming Jenny

This is a local legend into a fictional short story. The descriptions on the story put me on the scene on the train, at the station, and envisioning Jenny in her shack by the tracks, and other scenes

A Good Old-Fashioned Ghost Story

A young couple's chance meeting during an emergency train lay-over changes their relationship for the better.
This one's a classic urban legend type story about a ghost who repeatedly returns to the scene of her death, but it's the surprise ending that makes it absolutely charming.
Short, sweet and perfect for a Halloween thrill.

Poor Jenny...

Screaming Jenny by Becky Muth is based on a true tale that happened years back in Harpers Ferry. I loved how the author went from the present back to the past to tell the tale through the old woman on the bench. Vanessa and Nick, the couple in the present day who are traveling on the train that gets held up at Harpers Ferry, are rather forgettable and annoying. Or should I say Nick is annoying and Vanessa seems to be settling for a pretty self absorbed man. I wouldn't call this a romance at all, more of a quick tale of the past with a hint of the paranormal. Nick and Vanessa are bickering or at odds for most of this tale until the end when they remember everything great about each other and all is well again. It just didn't feel authentic or real at all. As for the tale of Jenny herself, it was entertaining and sad, but interesting, though not a tale that I feel warranted it's on short story.

Jennifer Gilmour did a great job narrating this tale. I loved her voice and felt that she was the perfect fit for this tale. Overall, I would probably skip this one but I would definitely have no hesitations to listen to future works narrated by Ms. Gilmour. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.

not really a ghost story

the story is more about a young married couple arguing over his video game playing. There is a ghost story included. Nothing scary.

Perfect Halloween Story!

I associate author Becky Muth with romance, and there were elements of a love story here, but the truly Dickensian tale is of Jenny--and her kith and kin. If you've been to Harper's Ferry, you know it rises steeply from the waterfront, which consists of the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers. Civil War scholars know of John Brown's raid, and the railroad bridge now provides a lovely, scenic walk, especially when fall foliage is on display and you can view three states in brilliant color. With much of its original fabric intact, the town is the perfect backdrop to our story, which is short, spooky, and perfectly read and acted by narrator Jennifer Gilmour.

Favorite Coffee Series (The Marshall Family Saga) was a great read by Victoria Pinder. This series consisted of Favorite Coffee, Favorite Crush; Favorite Coffee, Favorite Mistake; Favorite Coffee, Favorite Sin and Favorite Coffee, Favorite Scandal. I loved following these four couples at finding love. I can't wait to read more by Victoria Pinder.

A Spooky little tale.

Screaming Jenny was a nice short story about a couple coming to terms with the possibility of a failing relationship. There are brought together by a tragic tale of misfortune and misery, and a common interest in the ghost tales of nice old lady. The story was a little creepy but it was mostly about the couple and their relationship.

The narration was done very well. The characters came to life and you felt for the characters in the story within the story.
