Publisher's summary

Thomas "Cuss" Layne has never wanted for anything, except the beautiful girl he saved so long ago. But she's a rich girl, and he's a biker. For years, he hasn't had a glimpse of her. Still, he's never been able to get her out of his mind. When her life's in danger, he rides to her rescue once again. This time, he's determined to do what he should've done long ago - make her his, in every possible way.

Tiffany Hamilton has never gotten over the bad boy with the sapphire eyes and midnight hair, the boy who once saved her. She wants him - a touch, a taste - but he's never wanted anything to do with her. It's past time to move on. When the sexy biker barges back into her life, saving her yet again and making demands, he makes it impossible to say no to his raw magnetism. She'll finally have everything she's dreamed of...but will it be enough?

Slow Burn

Thomas and Tiffany have been attracted to each other since they were teenagers and can't seem to work out their communication issues. Thomas is a biker but is hesitant to stake his claim on Tiffany. Good story but it dragged. Good Narration. I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator.

Motorcycles + Hot Alpha Male + Unrequited Love

HEA with No cliffhangers!

This could probably be read as a standalone, but why would you?
It's always, more fun in order! 😘

Content Advisory: There is sex, dirty talk, and cussing.
And as Cuss points out himself, "They are bikers"
OW/OM drama possible. (see below)

Running Hot is the second in this MC Romance series, however, it technically starts many years before and carries through events of book #01. Cuss and Tiff have been skirting around their attraction for one another since they met in grade school. There are many situations and circumstances that bring them together as well as push them apart. Both have the courage to challenge the roles society dictates, but lack confidence to believe in their self worth.

They are walking, talking oxymorons!

One still might find issue with the other man/women drama, even taking all these factors into account. . I found it to be more a part of the plot that carries the story forward rather than a blight on their character, but all might not agree.

Thomas “Cuss” Layne grew up on the proverbial Opposite Side of the Tracks . He knew the heroine was his the moment he first sees her, and makes it his mission to always watch out for her, despite feeling unworthy. He even does jail time over it.

Tiffany “Tiff” Hamilton was several grades below Cuss, and from a family of social climbers who put money and status above all else. Going as far as to turn a blind eye to attempted rape because the male in question was from a family of influence in their superficial lives. These same poor excuses for parents don't have a problem calling on Cuss to be their muscle to get Tiff out of difficult situations. Only to turn around and practically spit on him as less than and unworthy of their presence. They disgusted me, and make me nauseous just mentioning them!

There is a lot of action outside the two main characters relationship, as you get pre-book one drama, the drama of book one, the things that go down in this book, plus a lot of set-up for book 3. There is still a lot of ups and downs angst for those that like the feels roller coasters. The constant poor or sheer lack of communication was a bit much for me, but to each their own. I loved Cuss in the first one, so I think I was just expecting more from him. There are currently still 2 more Hell Ryders stories out in audio to go, Dodge and Ripper. I look forward to the listens yet to come. I still really want to hear a Ty and Tina book. 🤞

J.L. Sheppard writes a good M.C. story. The secondary characters are the best.

This is my first listen by Dawson McBride. His gravely voice really works for a gritty M.C. series.

I listened @ 1.15 speed.
Original speed seemed too slow to me. Don't be afraid to experiment.

Good Read

Running Hot (Hell Ryders MC #2) was a great read by J.L. Sheppard. Thomas has always wanted Tiffany since he save her a long time ago. Unfortunately he is a biker and she is just a rich girl. He comes into her life to save her again when she is in danger and he is determined to make her his. I really enjoyed reading Tiffany and Thomas’s story and can’t wait to read more by J.L. Sheppard.

Running Hot

“I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.”

Let's start by saying I'm a fan...I enjoyed the first book but enjoyed the second even more! I love how the couple had a past before "Cuss" joined the motorcycle club.
A true clash of stations in life...Tiff is a rich girl that has had a crush on "Cuss" forever, "Cuss" is a guy that has had a crush on Tiff but feels he is not good enough for the rich girl. He may feel that he is not enough but that doesn't stop him from protecting her at every opportunity. When Tiff's father contacts Thomas, he knows something is seriously wrong and that Tiff must be in deep trouble.
This is not a second chance novel as the main characters were never lovers in their past and its not exactly friends to lovers either since Thomas wasn't very nice to her the last time he rescued her but its a love story none the less - where rags or riches don't matter and I also like that although he is a biker and has all the attributes of a biker...that doesn't overtake the whole storyline.
I look forward to the next book.

Slow Burn

This is the second book by J L Sheppard that I have listened to and I find it to be enjoyable. The story is not the typical MC book, as Cuss has loved Tiffany since high school. Some of the characters act gruff, yet have true hearts. Dawson McBride did a great performance with his gravely voice. I liked the idea that Cuss was willing to set Tiffany free, although his method was not very mature. I had requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review.

LOVE ENOUGH TO SET IT FREE

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Really liked this sweet scorcher. Thomas, or Cuss, had an unusual mix of real bad-ass and patient determination. When he is given a shot at finally getting Tiffany, the girl of his dreams, he grabs it with both hands. He feels so very unworthy of this girl so he takes his time opting for friendship in order to earn her trust. She comes from a very wealthy family while he’s from “the other side of the tracks.” It’s his inferiority complex that continues to block the relationship. Tiff has just broken up with a wonderful man because deep down she knows she’ll never love anyone like she does Thomas. He has saved her ass many times in the past, giving her his number and making her promise to call him whenever she needs him. But he always backs out of her life thinking she is better off without him as a part of it. Tiff takes this aloofness as dislike and four years of college go by without any contact. When he is approached by her father to remove a threat in her life, that’s when Thomas makes his decision to make her his forever.

The story has an almost awkward beginning, with things happening pretty fast and an almost non existent description of their past experiences. But once you’re in a few chapters, the story starts blooming in color. It’s a slow build love story that has you restless, waiting for them to come together. Just when you think the HEA arrives, a twisted payback delivers a hard punch and almost tilts their wold off it’s axis again. Almost.

I am becoming a big fan of Dawson McBride. HIs deep calm voice was perfect.

TWO THUMBS UP!

Running Hot

Thomas feel for Tiffany back in high school but felt that she deserved much better than him. For seven long years he called her his girl because to him she was even though they never dated or even hung tougher. Now just weeks before graduation from college she has a stalker. Her father goes to a Thomas to hire him to take care of the problem. Now Thomas must make a decision--- should he they to change the situation that he put himself him or leave it. Unfortunately he did to much damage in pushing Tiff away now he has to fight to get her to accept him.
J.L. Sheppard had a beautiful voice that enchants the listener as the story unfolds.
