Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Skye Jordan brings you another steamy Renegades story!

Former Navy SEAL Josh Marx thinks he has it all figured out. He's living the bachelor lifestyle in Southern California, running risk assessment for the Renegades; but most importantly, he's finally gotten over the unrequited love he's harbored for his former teammate's ex-wife. Then his buddy calls from overseas, worried because he hasn't heard from his ex, and asks Josh to check in on her. Josh doesn't want to get involved, but the same code that urged him to walk away in the first place is suddenly pushing him to change his Christmas plans.

Grace Ashby doesn't appreciate the sexy SEAL trying to step in and take over. He thinks she's hit rock bottom by working at a strip club, but she knows differently. She could set him straight, but he's already rejected her once, and she doesn't need one more man judging her.

She tells him to butt out of her business and her life. But Josh's conscience won't let him walk away this time.

All books in the Renegades series may be heard as standalone books. The series includes:

  • Reckless
  • Rebel
  • Ricochet
  • Rumor

Surprise Punch for an In-Between Book

It’s rare that I find an in-between book that stands above the rest, but this is it for certain! I’ve enjoyed getting to know the men and women of Renegades, but this novella focuses on a secondary character so I figured it would be a good fit for the series. I was wrong...it’s a great fit and has an amazing punch for being a short story. I wish this book was longer, but Ms. Jordan did a fantastic job keeping the story focused and tight.

Josh was sort of a jerk in the previous book, but I also understood he was interested in the heroine. He proves to be a stand-up guy in this book as he rearranges his holiday plans to check in on the ex wife of a former SEAL mate. What Josh sees isn’t even a sliver of the story. As Grace’s story unfolds, you see how much she must have grown as a person in a short amount of time. I appreciated that Ms. Jordan didn’t jump straight to Josh understanding and Grace forgiving and moving on. They both had to process a huge amount of information in a short amount of time, but in the end you can feel the many years of friendship they have to work with as a foundation for their future.

I listened to the audio performed by Piper Goodeve. Ms. Goodeve did an amazing job bringing these characters to life and pulling all the emotion flowing through this story to the center stage.

Rumor by Skye Jordan

Would you consider the audio edition of Rumor to be better than the print version?

I didn't read a print version.

What did you like best about this story?

Rachel. She was confident, completely comfortable who she was and her choices, and wasn't afraid of working hard for what she wanted.

What does Piper Goodeve bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I didn't "read" the book.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Actually both at times.

Any additional comments?

I've loved every book in Skye Jordan's Renegades series and the novella, RUMOR, is no exception. I wasn't sure what I thought of Josh for most of the book in Ricochet (Renegades #3) mostly because he seemed so uptight and his interference with Rachel and Ryker's relationship, but he proved himself a stand-up guy at the end. I was happy to get to learn more about what made him tick and for him to have a second chance to find happiness with his own true love.

After receiving a desperate overseas phone call from his buddy and former teammate, and then not finding Grace in the same situation she'd been in when he'd last seen her Josh thought he’d need to rush in to save her, but Grace was no damsel in distress. Grace was a perfect match for Josh. Strong, independent, sexy, intelligent and determined to make her own way despite the gorgeous ex SEAL's meddling. She knew who she was, what she wanted, and she owned it. And she owned Josh. These two were combustible they were so hot together. Fantastic story. 4.5 stars

~I listened to the audio version. The narrator for this series is one of the best I've heard.

IT'S SHORT.. BUT IT'S SEXY, SWEET & SINFULLY GOOD

Ex Navy Seal Josh is based in California, he sees his retired Navy buddies (and now fellow Renegade Stunt team mates) have all found love and he's beginning to feel disconnected, empty and unhappy with the turn his life has taken because he was sure he too had found the love of his life - but he'd walked away from temptation. Grace lives in San Diego and is the ex-wife of Josh's Navy buddy Beck and Josh has always had feelings for Grace - right from the very start but, because Beck got there first, Josh always held back and felt guilty over his strong feelings. Beck saved Josh's life while on a mission and, when Josh was flown home injured and eventually discharged from the Navy, he and Grace grew very close because she was by his side, and by his bedside, all the way. Grace has loved the sexy, handsome, frustrating and complicated Josh for a long time and, when she finally made her move on him, she didn't expect his reaction..... he ran.

Now, one year later, Josh has been asked by Beck (who's away and is still an active Seal) to go and check up on Grace because he hasn't been able to get hold of her for three months. Reluctantly agreeing, Josh follows-up on clues, clues that will lead him to a very very different Grace which triggers Josh's protective side..... but it's also a trigger for his wildest fantasies too. So their reunion doesn't go as Josh planned because, now that he is here, one way or the other Grace is going to force Josh to finally crack.... or will he just run again.

A really entertaining push/pull love story, with romantic declarations, a bit of angst and drama and some sexy scenes as the emotional, and sad circumstances, come to an overdue climactic conclusion. Strong, sexy, compassionate and sweet Heroine and a drop dead gorgeous Hero who's fighting hard against his feelings of lust, desire and love because guilt, camaraderie and gratitude is confusing him. Dual POV's and the narration was really good.

Worth a credit? Well I agree it's short, I got it while it was on a 50% sale so it was a bargain price. However, if you love the Renegade series you won't think twice - at just over $10 I would have just bought it..... but, IMO, as I'm loving the series.... YES I still think it's creditworthy.

Too short

Story lines seem to be cut short. Left feeling like there's more to say and discover.
