Publisher's Summary

After the sudden death of her father, Ruby Atwood is forced to drop out of college to care for her younger brother. Deep in debt and on the verge of desolation, Ruby resorts to some shady dealings on the streets of New Orleans in order to put food on the table for her small family. Until one night, in a dark alley, she discovers a hideous beast she could never have imagined in her darkest nightmares.

Cloaked in darkness, the Beast prowls the back alleys of New Orleans, lonely, savage, and bereft of hope, his demon clawing at him. With the man responsible for his curse now dead, the Beast seeks out the only other person who can satisfy the demon within - the man's daughter, Ruby Atwood.

Trapped, with nowhere to run, Ruby quickly realizes she must use her wits to stay alive or face certain death at the hands of a monster. But the more she tries to escape, the more she is drawn to the Beast. Desire and fear clash, creating an unforgettable story of hope, trust, and a love found only in fairytales...

Great modern day retelling of Beauty & the Beast!

Great modern day retelling of Beauty & the Beast!

I've always loved Beauty & the Beast, and find it hard to pass up a retelling of it. This modern take on my favorite classic, has the supernatural elements we are familiar with mixed into the real life scenarios of New Orleans.

Lincoln, aka The Beast, was cursed in the womb by an angry witch practicing black magic voodoo. I was very angry at this because he was being punished for the sins of his father, so not fair! He really wants to break his curse but feels revenge will be his only solace.

Ruby, aka Beauty, finds her family's secrets run darker than she ever suspected. Her issues keep piling up until she is forced to make a deal with the devil in an effort to not lose all she holds dear.

There is a riddle, a rose, and furry hunky goodness, oh my! If you like Beauty and the Beast, you will not be disappointed.

This is my first read by Ditter Kellen, and I want more! I love the writing with the twists and turns, and the secondary characters and a wolf named Satan are super adorable. I look forward to reading more titles by this author.

Johnny Mack Does a fantastic job narrating this story. There are many characters that span many ages and he pulls it off with relish! Everyone has a distinct voice and it's easy to get lost in the story. Sadly my favorite is only used a small amount in the end. Transformed Lincoln sounds HOT!

cute title, great book!

I totally love this book! this is my favorite fairly tale, and I have read a few "adult versions" of it. I have only like two. This being my 2nd one I have liked!
Ditter did a amazing job with the back story, and bonding us to the characters. plus there are a few really good steamy parts in it to seal the deal :)
This will be a book I keep on my phone to re listen to.
well done!

One of the biggest obstacles reading a book via Audible is liking the reader's voice. This narrator was great! and had great voice for the beast!

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Not your normal telling of Beauty and the Beast

I was 21 chapters into this book before I knew It! The narrator really pulled me in to the story and I was able to enjoy this unique telling of a beauty and of a beast. While many of the names are different the supporting characters of the original story are still present and hold very much true to their original personas. There is only one question that is left unanswered and that is.... When he transformed into a man from the Beast did he keep his beast sized manly bits?

Okay I'll begin by saying that I absolutely loved this book!!! So loved the Audiable version! Beauty and the Beast has always been my favorite but having an adult version... holy cow!!!!! Ruby was willing to do anything to help her little brother and if it meant getting in bed with the Beast then so be it *lucky girl*🙊

A new spin on a classic

Have you listened to any of Johnny Mack’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is my first foray into Johnny Mack and I have to say that is was great. There is something about a narrator that can suck you in and just keep you there. There are some narrators that cannot bring a story to life even if the author is pure magic. Mack however did not have that issue. It was great.

Any additional comments?

I recieved this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this retelling of Beauty and the Beast. Trying to retell a classic can be a bit difficult when everyone knows what is going to be the outcome. I loved Ruby and Lincoln. I appreciated that we got to see both sides of what is going on. I am glad that Ruby was a strong woman that did not cower from Lincoln as everyone did.

I liked the take that Lincoln was someone who was bent on revenge and then started to realize that there is more out there then trying to get even. I would listen to another book by Ditter Kellen and I also would listen to Johnny Mack again.

A Sensual Beauty and the Beast

If you like a little bite in your fairy tale retellings, this is the version for you! Lincoln Barone was cursed by a member of the Atwood family for his father's mistake and was born as the Beast. He hides his face and form in the folds of his cloak and only his servants see him. He blames Charles Atwood for the curse and drives Charles into debt, eventually acquiring his family home. When Charles is found dead, Lincoln feels only satisfaction.

Ruby Atwood arrives in town to arrange her father's funeral, and Lincoln decides it's time to exact his revenge. Lincoln offers Ruby a trade, her home and the return of her father's fortune in return for a month with him. He intends to break her and make her feel the pain he does. When Ruby is faced with losing her home and custody of her younger brother, Lincoln's offer becomes her only hope. But after she arrives, Lincoln finds himself unable to do anything that might hurt her. And Ruby begins to see the real man behind the Beast.

This memorable Beauty and the Beast retelling is set in modern day New Orleans, and the steamy setting really fits in well the sensual story. This is a very adult version with quite a few well written erotic scenes. The romance arc is really well done, Ruby's reactions are believable. The story is told from both Ruby and Lincoln's point of view and the characters are developed and intense. Ruby is the perfect blend of sweetness and strength, and she and Lincoln are the perfect match.

The narration was well done, I thought Johnny Mack was the perfect choice to voice the Beast. He performed the Beast's speaking voice with a growl that had my toes tingling! He lightened his tone for Ruby and the other females. I received a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review. I would 100% recommend this book, I already want to listen to it again!

A Modern HOT Retelling!

I LOVE adaptions of the Beauty and the Beast story as I have lived my own personal type of B & B story so I'll read just about any retelling. I simply LOVED this one! It was a modern tale with a hint of the essence of Disney's telling. Don't get me wrong this was an adult fairytale, and a PNR filled with emotion, depth, love and forgiveness...but but I don't want to give it away, just download it. Trust me you won't regret it!

Confusing

This book didn't live up to the synopsis. Ruby didn't get up to any shady things to save her family, she is bribed by the beast to stay with him, who by the way, only lurks in a dark alley once, not all the time like the synopsis suggests. I feel like the synopsis was misleading.

Also, chapter three completely threw me. It had nothing to do with this story. It was like it was from a whole other book and was put in this book by mistake. It is some guy called Mason talking to his friend on the phone about a guy he likes and then that guy phoning him and arranging a date. Then in the next chapter it goes back to ruby, and Mason is never in the story again. It was weird.

Anyway, beside all this the story was alright, although it could have been better and more detailed.

The narrator was the best part of this story. I liked his beastly voice.
