Publisher's Summary

After the sudden death of her father, Ruby Atwood is forced to drop out of college to care for her younger brother. Deep in debt and on the verge of desolation, Ruby resorts to some shady dealings on the streets of New Orleans in order to put food on the table for her small family. Until one night, in a dark alley, she discovers a hideous beast she could never have imagined in her darkest nightmares.

Cloaked in darkness, the Beast prowls the back alleys of New Orleans, lonely, savage, and bereft of hope, his demon clawing at him. With the man responsible for his curse now dead, the Beast seeks out the only other person who can satisfy the demon within - the man's daughter, Ruby Atwood.

Trapped, with nowhere to run, Ruby quickly realizes she must use her wits to stay alive or face certain death at the hands of a monster. But the more she tries to escape, the more she is drawn to the Beast. Desire and fear clash, creating an unforgettable story of hope, trust, and a love found only in fairytales...

"Not your normal telling of Beauty and the Beast"

I was 21 chapters into this book before I knew It! The narrator really pulled me in to the story and I was able to enjoy this unique telling of a beauty and of a beast. While many of the names are different the supporting characters of the original story are still present and hold very much true to their original personas. There is only one question that is left unanswered and that is.... When he transformed into a man from the Beast did he keep his beast sized manly bits?

Okay I'll begin by saying that I absolutely loved this book!!! So loved the Audiable version! Beauty and the Beast has always been my favorite but having an adult version... holy cow!!!!! Ruby was willing to do anything to help her little brother and if it meant getting in bed with the Beast then so be it *lucky girl*🙊

    "Great story"

This was a great story. This was the first Audible book that I listened to that was narrated by a man. He did a wonderful job. Loved the different voices he used and the emotion.

    "Wonderful!"

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It's a great modern-day retelling of a classic fairytale. I cheered for their love throughout the book, and I'm happy with the epilogue too. The narrator did a great job. It couldn't have been easy to perform the beast's gruff voice. I listened to this in one sitting.

"I felt iike I was in the book!!!!!!"

This audible made me feel like every second I was in the boo with all the characters. I love how Johnny Mack's voice made all the characters come to life. I hope I can surely hear more from Mr. Mack reading more of Ditter Kellen's books. Thank you for the most intriguing love story ever and the gorgeous voice that read it.

    Story
"I absolutely loved the story line."

This was an awesome story, an amazing plot. The Beast definitely filled his name out. I haven't read the book yet, but will now. The only problem I had was the voice over. It was difficult listening to a man tell the story. I had a hard time feeling the emotion from his voice. There was a point where I felt like the story was a bit rushed but not sure if that's because of the narrator or the story itself which is Why I am needing to read it. I felt like I was missing something. But overall the story was perfect. I would highly recommend it to those Beauty and Beast fans out there.

"Brilliant take on the beauty and the beast theme"

I am a big fan of Ditter Kellen already and she has created another fantastic story that was really enjoyable to listen to. I love the twist on the beauty and the best tale and the voice of Johnny Mack just brings the beast to life.

    Definitely recommend this one

    Story
    "Confusing"

This book didn't live up to the synopsis. Ruby didn't get up to any shady things to save her family, she is bribed by the beast to stay with him, who by the way, only lurks in a dark alley once, not all the time like the synopsis suggests. I feel like the synopsis was misleading.

Also, chapter three completely threw me. It had nothing to do with this story. It was like it was from a whole other book and was put in this book by mistake. It is some guy called Mason talking to his friend on the phone about a guy he likes and then that guy phoning him and arranging a date. Then in the next chapter it goes back to ruby, and Mason is never in the story again. It was weird.

Anyway, beside all this the story was alright, although it could have been better and more detailed.

The narrator was the best part of this story. I liked his beastly voice.
