Sometimes The Bad Brings Us The Good We Need!

Sometimes The Bad Brings Us The Good We Really Need!

This is book 2 of the Ridding Tall Series. It is my first of this series as I have not read any of the others.
Yet!

♥ Story ♥
19 years ago Cat Hayden left her home and heart behind for greener pastures. As we all know, the grass is rarely greener on the other side. Cat finds herself back home to care for her aging grandmother, with a new face and a new outlook. Her love from the past, Blake McBride, is still around but now with battle scars of his own as well as a teen daughter. Despite their past misadventures, the love they felt for each other never left their hearts.

Many obstacle get in the couples way. Some that makes your heart hurt for them and some that make you want to crawl through the page and punch a bitch in the face. The ex is a despicable person that will provoke the beast in you, just be warned.

♥ Author ♥
This is my first read by Cheyenne McCray. She is definitely good at writing the villains, cause I really wanted to stab one of them with a fork. I would for sure read another work from this author and more than likely the next one will be another in this series.

♥ Narrator(s) ♥
David Quimby's voice works perfectly for a western. It has that raw edge to it that just sounds rugged with a layer of dust or dirt you would see on the clothing of a cowboy.

The ebook can be found through your local library. It may need to be recommended through the overdrive system.

Sweet second chance love story

If you could sum up Roping Your Heart: Riding Tall in three words, what would they be?

second chance love

What did you like best about this story?

I like the idea of a love that lasts through the years despite not seeing or talking to one another. Add to that a father who loves his daughter more than anything in the world.

What aspect of David Quimby and David Quimby ’s performance would you have changed?

I didn't care for his female voices.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The court scene was heartbreaking

Love comes full circle at 4-H Ranch

*Free Audible credit received for an honest review*

Roping Your Heart: Riding Tall is the second chance romance story between Blake McBride and Cat Hayden.
Their love story began 19 years before the start of this story, back when the two were just young high school kids in love. Cat always had dreams of getting out of the small town she grew up in and away from her abusive, alcoholic parents. Blake McBride did not share her wanderlust and wanted to remain in town and work the ranch. A simple life with his high school sweetheart and true love was his hearts desire. Alas; Cat made the tough call to sprout her wings and fly. A tragic accident many years earlier may have altered Cat's appearance and career plans, but her experience as a barrel racer and an ailing grandmother brings her back to the small town she ran from and smack dab into Blake McBride's life once again. It is obvious right from the start that still waters run very deep and Cat and Blake are quite certainly still madly in love with one another. The question is...what do they plan to do about it this time? And who will get in their way?
While 19 years may not have changed their feelings for one another, the circumstances of their lives have changed quite a bit. Blake has been married & divorced, and is now the single father to a fourteen year old daughter (Demi). He also has a very selfish, deceitful and conniving ex-wife to contend with. Sally does not plan to make anything easy for Blake or Cat. Will she cause just enough trouble to keep true love at bay? Will Demi do everything in her power to rekindle the relationship between Sally and Blake, or will she see the light in her father's eyes that only shines for Cat?

This story is so multi-faceted that it really truly surprised me. Cheyenne McCray has written a story with so many layers and subplots happening that I could not resist feeling captivated. It was pure enjoyment! I am an absolute sucker for a real good guy which Blake most definitely is. Add to that my weakness for cowboy romance, single dad romance, and second chance romances and you've got yourself the makings of the perfect country romance story.
While the chemistry between Blake and Cat is undeniable, and they definitely generated some heat, this is not a sex, sex, sex, on every page storyline. It's about the feels and the journey of two people who've always held each other's hearts.
I loved it and hope you will too!

My 1st Cheyenne McCray – It Won't Be My Last!

🏇 Cat Hayden has been away from her childhood home since her senior year of high school. She has recovered from an accident that has left her almost unrecognizable and insecure. It is been a long time but she decides to come back to care for her ailing grandmother.

Blake and Cat were together all through high school until Cat skipped town without so much as a goodbye to Blake. Now, Blake is a well-to-do rancher with a 14-year-old daughter from a previous marriage.

Cat and Blake do reconnect almost immediately. Blake's daughter is in Cat's 4H riding class. Will his daughter, Demi, ever get used to the idea of her father with anyone but her mother? Will the excitement of being back together continue to be a thrill? Or will outside forces ruin any dreams, plans or goals for the newish couple?

This is a really nice story with relatable characters. There are some mature/intimate scenarios that are not suitable for younger audiences. I would only recommend it for ages 18+

Dave Quimby is an exceptional performer. The majority of the characters in this book are female and his performance gave each of them a unique voice. His portrayal of Blake was perfect – I could envision Blake (the cover helped as well *wink*)

I will give this book and overall rating of 4.5 stars. Wonderful !

Second chance romance and single dad!

Single dad and second chance romance combined in one book! How can you possibly go wrong with this combination? Cheyenne McCray has written a wonderful installment to the Riding Tall series with single dad, Blake McBride and his returning high school sweetheart, Cat Hayden. So much has happened in 19 years of the two being apart, but the draw between them is too strong. With a strong willed 14 year old, a crazy ex-wife and baggage on both sides to sort through, this couple navigates through life's tragedies and happiness. McCray has a way of drawing the reader in and keeping you there with that hometown family feel with a little angst and a lot of romance.

David Quimby returns to narrate book 2 of this series. I love his voice, perfect for the western romance. He provides such great passion and emotion with his voice through his well discernible characters making my earbuds stay in until the book has completed! Always look forward to his narrations and really enjoyed this performance.

A Single Dad cowboy and a second chance at love!

This was my first Cheyenne McCray book and I found it very enjoyable. The story and the characters were just wonderful.

This was also my first narrated book by David Quimby. He was able to narrate all characters very well with distinction between the male and female characters. Very well done.

Any additional comments?

The heart never forgets it's first love.

I really enjoyed this book. It's a really good story with a little steamy romance and a HEA. You'll want to keep your earbuds in for parts of this book.

Even though this is a second chance at first love story there is so much more going on. For a shorter story there is a lot packed into it. It's well written, flows smoothly and while it is a sweet story in many ways there are times it is also an emotional roller-coaster and covers some very serious events in each of the main characters lives.

Both Cat and Blake were immediately likable and relatable. You can't help but root for them from the start. As well as be just as heartbroken and sad as they are when they faced with past and present events in their lives. I'm trying not to give away any spoilers about the story.

David Quimby did a great job with the narration. Perfect voice for this type of story. It has that rough little edge with a slight country feel. Clearly spoken with a nice even pace. Really good character voices. Both male and female. Perfect tone and delivery. He brings the characters, their emotions and the story to life. Very enjoyable.

Sweet, Feel-Good Modern Western Romance

This story is a wonderful, emotionally charged, second chance romance. It is so sensitively written and narrated that the listener cannot help but relate to and feel for the characters. This story doesn't shy away from harder emotions and harder issues but still has the HEA the reader hopes for.

Cat and Blake have a strong history and a rekindled attraction that cannot be ignored. While they are the same people they once were, they are also very different. They have life experiences that colour the way they think and behave as well as affect the choices that they make. Life doesn't usually tie up issues in pretty little bows, and that certainly is true in this story. Cat and Blake have to decide whether they can pursue their second chance at love or meet the demands their lives have on them.

Overall, this is an enjoyable, touching romance with major feel-good factor.
