Publisher's summary

A Sizzling New Romance by The New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kendall Ryan.

Agent Cole Fletcher lives for his job at the FBI, and he's more than ready for his next assignment - raiding a cult compound and putting their leader behind bars. But he isn't prepared for Savannah and her knock you on your ass good looks. At 19, she's too old for foster care and too damaged to live on her own. With nowhere else to go, and against his better judgment Cole takes her in. But helping her out won't be easy. He comforts her through screaming nightmares and escaping the lingering fears of her past, but that's the easy part. Her preference to sleep cuddled up next to his warm body, and her desire to please him in every way makes her harder and harder to resist.

One of the worst books I have listened to

I normally like Kendall Ryan but this book was a complete flop. The premise was different, at least, though still man saves damsel in distress and they "fall in love". Unfortunately on the way to falling in love the male lead screwed another woman with the female lead in the next room, then went immediately to her bed and messed around. If that wasn't bad enough, he had a "relationship" with another woman on the side. It wasn't sexual or even dating but enough that he felt like he had to keep it from her for the entirety of the book? This was 6 hours of my life I'll never gt back. But I'll be returning the book anyway.

AN UNFORGETTABLE KIND OF LOVE

Wow! I was so impressed with the concept and set up of this book from the beginning! I was drawn into sexy, competent FBI agent Cole Fletcher who led his squad team into a cult compound to save the followers from a planned suicide mission by their leader. In this compound is where he finds Savannah, huddled in a corner. His primal, instinctive response to Savannah, the beautiful young woman with the vivid emerald eyes, was awesome. I loved his instant attraction to her where he couldn't get her out of his mind. Cole walks a fine line in following his protective inclination to seek out Savannah. Yet, the other inclination he puts a lot of effort into fighting is this strong need to be with her and have her close to him, despite consequences.

There are so many things that worked well in this book. The chemistry between heart-throb, agent Cole and the lovely Savannah was great. When they are together there is this quiet comfort with an underlying buzz of sexual tension that pushes them to the brink of their romance. Cole brings a very willing Savannah to live with him and I loved how kind and sensitive he was to her. This book is filled with both the small and very grand sweet and thoughtful gestures Cole extends toward Savannah. Savannah is equally smitten and consumed by her longing for Cole. She wants him and blossoms under his protection, security and affection.

So, even though there were sweet, endearing moments that had me sighing, "awe." The part of the book where Cole actively resists Savannah lingered for too long and became a stagnant place where not only are Savannah and Cole sexually frustrated, but I felt frustrated for them!!! I felt as though I was reliving Twilight with Edward and Bella who slept with one another and just cuddled for like what years???--(Although for Cole and Savannah, bedtime "cuddle only" nights lasted a few weeks---but, how realistic is that?? Who can do that for so long????). During this time, Cole also made STUPID decisions regarding other women that had me seeing red! And, Savannah's reaction to these situations was sad to me. I felt her vulnerable position in living with Cole most during these awkward situations that Cole created. When Cole finally does give in to Savannah it was a beautiful, scintillating, smoky-hot kind of love. It enhanced their already comfortable relationship and strengthened their bond.

Overall, I found this book to be enjoyable. It piqued my interest as I anxiously rooted for both Cole and Savannah as they worked toward their HEA. One of my favorite parts is toward the end, when Cole's last secret is revealed and he comes grobbling and begging Savannah to take him back and never leave him. Wow!! I loved it because it was Cole's breaking point and the last point of surrender to his insatiable need and commitment to Savannah, the love of his life. He finally stopped resisting and that made me very happy. Also, the epilogue was one of the sweetest---OMG seriously adorable and sweet---LOVED IT!

Narrator: I thought Josh Goodman's voice was very sexy and swoon worthy. What a great voice for Cole! Josh also did a good job with the female voices. He really enhanced the experience of this audiobook.

Resist this book

While the narration was amazing and the writing flowed easily, I found there was something missing in Resisting Her. The plot was promising: FBI agent Cole (27) was involved in a raid on a cult compound where Savannah (19) had been living since the age of 7.

However, the characters just didn't make sense to me; Savannah was too well spoken for a kid who never went to school. She also didn't display much curiosity about the modern world or have any life ambitions. Cole, a workaholic, somehow believed he was totally responsible for the self-destructive behavior of an old girlfriend and not entitled to a happy adult relationship.

When Cole takes Savannah to his condo - she can't survive alone in a city - he denies his attraction to Savannah, rather than discussing the situation with her. They spend weeks, possibly months, dancing around their feelings like 5th graders. There were some cute moments but not enough to keep my interest.

Not as good as the author's other works...

The book wasn't bad overall, but not my favorite from this author. I have been obsessed with her work and have listened to several of her books. However, this book fell a little flat to me. I was waiting for something big to happen most of the book, then it ended. I like the narrators voice, but he didn't do well with voicing the dialogue, especially not the woman's voice. There were time when I didn't know who was speaking and times when the book called for a frustrated, anxious or breathless tone that wasn't expressed until the book mentioned that the character said it that way. Overall, I loved the concept of the book, but wouldn't recommend it to a friend.
