Publisher's summary

She's 33, unmarried, and stuffed into a Bubble-Yum-pink bridesmaid dress. And the whole town wants to fix her up with anyone with a dental plan....

Who's going to rescue Sadie Hollowell now?

Everyone in Lovett, Texas, knows Sadie has always been a "notional" kind of gal. She got a notion to leave town ASAP and never visit her daddy (bless his heart) again. Now she's back and got the notion to invite a good-looking, hard-muscled, total stranger to her cousin's wedding. Better a stranger than some of the losers she's dated.

Vince Haven got his muscles the hard way - as a Navy SEAL in Afghanistan. He's staying in Lovett to visit his crazy aunt - the proprietor of the local Gas and Go. Before he can get the heck back out of the small town, his aunt makes him an offer he can't refuse. Maybe he'll stick around Lovett for a while. Maybe he'll make a "go" of the Gas and Go. Maybe he'll rescue Sadie out of that pink dress!

disappointed.

As a Rachel Gibson fan, I was disappointed with this latest book. Unlike her other ones, this one had a thin storyline and lacked compelling characters, in my opinion. The two main characters were not really flushed out and when it ended, I felt like I barely knew anything about them or why they got together, except for the physical attraction, which is par for the course in a RG book....and chick-lit, in general. Where's the witty banter, character conflict, that we're used to...?

It also felt open ended, which I'm sure will be carried over into the next book. But, whereas in the past, I would have felt eager to read more, I'm not so interested in seeing what happens with these guys.

The narrator was okay....didn't really add to the experience. All in all, a mediocre book.

Rescue Me Rocks

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, if you love romance, you'll love this new Rachel Gibson contemporary romance. She gives you a great, sexy romp in her classic sassy, irreverant voice set in Lovett, Texas. These memorable, quirky characters are funny and just close enough to some of those people we may have known in our own small towns to make us identify with the heroine.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Rescue Me?

The emotional journey of the heroine and hero are excellent in this book. She made me laugh, she made me cry. I loved it.

And Navy SEAL Vince Haven is hot, hot, hot.

Have you listened to any of Kathleen Early???s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. Good.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. I did read it in one day--between the audio book and the print version. I had it covered in one day. Yay.

Any additional comments?

Adored it!

OK. Kind of.

I usually like Rachel Gibson books. They seem to borrow liberally from Susan Elizabeth Phillips plot lines and Gibson doesn't write a Phillips level or even at the level of Jennifer Crusie, but her books are light, funny sexy and a little bit sweet.

This one is OK. It shares some of the same characteristics as her other books, but there was a real disconnect between the main characters that I haven't noticed before. I didn't get the sense that these two were in love at the end or that they even particularly liked each other. And while I don't really need a HEA in a book like this, I do like some degree of closure. At the end, the demons plaguing them both were still there. Nothing was resolved. She still had the same parental issues. Her dad may have died but she still was crippled by his lack of interest. And he still had the nightmares to deal with. I am not sure what they really accomplished or if they thought being together would help them both.

Great break from the ho hum.

Not a bodice ripper, but a very good story. You get the emotional issues, the past trauma, and some really likable characters. Kept my interest and didn't cause me to want to quit listening. OK, I have read better but this is not a disappointment either. Go ahead and spend the credit, it is that good.

"A Sinner Amongst the Converted"

What made the experience of listening to Rescue Me the most enjoyable?

RG uses dialogue that is fun ie Aqua-net hair spray. Simple core romance with good old fashion fun words that paint the story deep in Texas

Who was your favorite character and why?

Sadie, she had the best fun dialogue ie "manners and charm". Must like Texas humor "who buttered your muffin?"

Did Kathleen Early do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Ms Early just has to get a little bit deeper males voice for the hero. 2 octaves lower would do it.She has great potential and she reads GeorgeAnn's story from RG I own. Her pace is good and her female voices are very good which saved her in this story.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It did have a lot of laughs if you listen for them as they come one after another. If you are not in the mood to laugh, then you will miss what this story really offers.

Another winner from Rachel Gibson!

Rescue me is book 3 of the Lovett, Texas series by Rachel Gibson and its the only one available in audiobook format at this time (bummer). I was very pleasantly surprised to find out that this book is the story of Navy SEAL Vince Haven, who happens to be the brother of Autumn from Any Man of Mine. He seemed to be a sad lonely character in the other book so I was happy to see him find happiness.

Vince goes to Lovett, Texas because he buys a Gas-n-Go from his aunt and is remodeling it. This is a cowboy love story written in the way that only Rachel Gibson can. Great romance, funny dialogue, interesting story line, teary eyes moments and a perfect ending.

Narration: Kathleen Early is an ok narrator. Not impressed by her male voices and her southern accent needs improvement but it was pleasant enough to listen and enjoy the story.

Rachel Gibson is one of my favorite contemporary romance authors. She consistently delivers a story that you want to listen to over and over again. The best narrators for her stories are Nicole Poole and Susan Bennett. I recommend listening to this book after Any Man of Mine. Although they are from different series, this one does mention a few things and characters from that book.

Loved it!

I read this book on my kindle and also listened to it on my iPod. It was great both ways. Rachel Gibson is one of the best and I really enjoyed hearing Vince's story. He was a very small character in Any Man of Mine so I didn't expect a book about him. The ending of this book was left open about a 28 year old girl listed on Sadie's Dad's will...the unnamed trust. I guess that is the next story!!! I can't wait.

I hate to say anything bad...but...

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes, mostly. This is a total chic lit escapist sex read. The hook up scenes are good because Rachel Gibson knows how to deliver a physical scene. I really really love listening to Rachel Gibson books. In fact, why doesn't Audible release more. Why? But I have to say, this was my least favorite book of hers. Even though I listened to it in a matter of days, it was a bit boring and the writing feels a little stale, repetitive and overdone. Yes we know they are just friends with benefits. We heard it 20 times. And yes we know he is emotionally unavailable....we hear it another 20 times and she of course never had great sex until she meets HIM. You told us. We got it. I hate to write anything negative about Rachel Gibson books because I like what she does...she usually has great characters a story, conflict, and romance. She's a great writer and I will always download her books. While this was not my favorite I still enjoyed it. I just didn't enjoy it as much as the other books.

Which character – as performed by Kathleen Early – was your favorite?

Vince's aunt with the hard raspy nicotine voice. I imagined that weird actress in the "magic bullet" infomercials. She's the one that smokes a cigarette in the kitchen in her moo moo while a bunch of clean cut suburban neighbors "magic bullet" garlic cloves, onions and radishes with cultish delight. She just doesn't fit the scene, just like Vince's aunt. More of her would have been fun.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No

Poor view of women

This author does not think very highly of women. Super misogynistic and patronizing. DNF at chapter 6.

Same story line I love every time

Never gets old, he meets her, they hit turmoil, they fall in love. But what I love most is the elements that accompany the story line that makes it different each time. Love Rachel Gibson
